Not the first time that mnemonic's been pointed out to me either...
wasn't it like 2 weeks ago?

Ha! I immediately flashed on Weird Al in the I Lost on Jeopardy! video. Your comparison is more flattering and, as it turns out, more apt.
more flattering? i would rather be compared to weird al...canseco is not so well liked...dude is a steroid using, snitch, shooting off his finger, attention seeking douche

In fact it was exactly two weeks ago! I believe this is called "going in one ear and out the other." :)

It would help to realize he clue specified that it was a country associated with (read "colonized by") Italy, which distinguishes it from about 3.9 trillion of the other countries. So there's that....

Aaaannnnddd….buh-bye to the one-time champ. Too bad, as I enjoyed her games.

Ran the categories: eponyms, eternal.

LT: morphine, Nietzsche, Inferno/Divine Comedy.

I saw the FJ category and started to pre-call. Got as far as Addis Ababa and stopped, thinking how far down that list of increasingly obscure capitals will the writers go? Probably not too far. Right again.

Just like Jupiter/Saturn/Uranus/Neptune, or which of Romeo and Juliet is Montague or Capulet, or which of AK/HI was the last state to join the union... I have seen these facts about a billion times and they WILL. NOT. STICK.
They don't stick to Uranus?

how many 2 word african capitals are there? i believe there are 3 others besides the answer to that final jeopardy clue
São Tomé, Cape Town, and Port Louis?
cape town isn't the national capital of south africa...turns out 2 others...i have never seen porto-novo in print...didn't realise it was a hyphenated word and not 2 words
You said "African capitals," not "African national capitals" (and does that mean that South Africa has no national capital, or that only the executive capital counts?).

And how does one learn of Porto-Novo without seeing it in print? I haven't gotten the impression that you've been to Benin. (I'd count it as two words anyway, even with the hyphen.)

the category was "2 word world capitals"....that suggests national capitals

i do a lot of my studying aurally...and that is how i learned the capital of benin

i have been to many places in the world...though benin was not one of them

hyphenated words count as 1 word according to a search i did earlier

Okay, but you said "2 word African capitals" in your post (well, except for the capital A).

And Bloemfontein has shown up as a response in a J! category titled WORLD CAPITALS twice.

There are still plenty of other clues referring to non-Pretoria capitals. I particularly like the one in bold...

#7051, aired 2015-04-20 OH, B-CITY IN AFRICA $12,600 (Daily Double): The name of this South African judicial capital means "fountain of flowers"
#6073, aired 2011-01-26 ALPHABETICALLY FIRST $2000: Of South Africa's 3 national capitals
#5687, aired 2009-05-05 GEOGRAPHY $2000: Bloemfontein is the judicial capital of this nation
#5263, aired 2007-06-27 WORLD CAPITALS $2000: The name of this judicial capital of South Africa means "Fountain of Flowers"
#4866, aired 2005-11-07 WORLD CAPITALS $1000: South Africa actually has 3 capitals: Bloemfontein, Cape Town & this one
#4322, aired 2003-05-20 A TALE OF TWO CITIES $1000: Two of South Africa's 3 capital cities
#4319, aired 2003-05-15 WORLD CAPITALS $1000: The name of this South African capital means "fountain of flowers"
#1192, aired 1989-11-07 STARTS WITH "B" $500: The only one of South Africa's 3 capitals that fits the category
#963, aired 1988-11-09 AFRICA $2,500 (Daily Double): It has not one, not two, but three capital cities
Final Jeopardy! Round clues (2 results returned)
#7848, aired 2018-10-24 AFRICAN CITIES: Also a judicial capital, this aptly named city is known for an annual rose festival that began in 1976
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
