I just had no idea what to even guess. There are like, four trillion countries in Africa and I see no way to noodle your way through this in 30 seconds unless you're inhumanly fast.

It would help to realize he clue specified that it was a country associated with (read "colonized by") Italy, which distinguishes it from about 3.9 trillion of the other countries. So there's that....

And how does one learn of Porto-Novo without seeing it in print? I haven't gotten the impression that you've been to Benin. (I'd count it as two words anyway, even with the hyphen.)

i do a lot of my studying aurally...and that is how i learned the capital of benin

i have been to many places in the world...though benin was not one of them
