Correct responses in spoiler box:

(Sir George) Downing
Dred Scott decision (Dred Scott v. Sanford)
Sicily
Chile and Peru
J.K. Rowling
The players were 10/15 (66.67%) with a 3-2-2-2-1 success pattern.

The extra clues have one correct by the players followed by two triple stumpers.

ASIAN GEOGRAPHY $2000: The Camotes sea is a small sea lying between the islands of Cebu & Leyte in this republic

AMERICAN HISTORY $2000: In 1933 this new head of the Department of Labor became the first female cabinet member

AMERICAN LITERATURE NOBELISTS $2000: The 2nd & 3rd books in Faulkner's trilogy about this family were published almost 2 decades after the first

Correct responses in spoiler box:
Spoiler
Philippines
Frances Perkins
Snopes
Note: The ASIAN GEOGRAPHY clue is a good one as someone can learn a sea & two different islands to go with the correct response. For those that go through Archive games for study purposes it can be easy to gloss over the clue and make a shorter connection such as Leyte = Philippines and move along if you already know that. Take the time to process all the parts of a clue in case something else in there can be something new to learn.

Many clues have such a benefit. For example the first female cabinet member extra clue is not just her name, but use 1933 to know it's FDR and pause to take in the Dept. is Labor as well.

The clue spelled out Rome for me, and I overlooked it and remained with my incorrect assumption that the Punic Wars involved parts of what is now Greece, saying Crete.

I've heard of Cebu and Leyte before, but just didn't have the connection to the Philippines. And I'm sure I've read about the origin of snopes.com's name before, but that wasn't a connection I had either.

Unfortunately, have never read any Faulkner.

Briefly considered James Patterson Friday before landing on Rowling.

Couldn’t remember “10 Downing Street” in time.
Need to memorize Perkins; she shows up regularly.
Faulkner has been on my list to read for ages, but hasn’t percolated to the top yet.

The rest were instagets.

I considered King, along with Patterson and Clancy (Crichton was dismissed because I was pretty sure he died before 2012), but stuck with Rowling, who was my first thought.

FJ! streak stands at 19, which I think is my longest ever.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

Mon: Never heard of the man, but I know 10 Downing St.
Tues: Sounded like a good description of Dred Scot to me, plus the date was good - just before the Civil War.
Wed: Reduced to wild guessing of islands in the Med. Guessed wrong.
Thurs: Knew Chile instantly. Ran thru So Am countries for the second one and ended up with the right one. Educated guessing has better odds than wild guessing, I guess.
Fri: Rowling as the first billionaire author is a bit of trivia that stuck with me a while ago. Hoped that there wasn't another since her.

Asian country with islands, combined with names that don't sound Japanese led me to The Philippines as an educated guess.
No hope at all on the other two. I clammed.

Second 5/5 in three weeks, and 16 of my last 17. I went 25/53 before this run.
Hoping for a third lap

I think the poll is broke. I went 0/5 and didn't click the Tuesday box, yet it's showing 28/28 on the votes for Tuesday.

I didn't actually get to see the 12/25 game because the affiliate in my market was showing something else (same for up to the first commercial break of 12/26. Going to have to go to the links posted on Reddit soon, but I digress), but I did correctly guess which case was being referenced before checking the spoiler box.

I was hoping Tainted Love would be included in the poll since I knew that one.

1/5 on FJ. 1.5/5 if I can get half a point for getting Chile.

 (are you joking :!: ) :(

M: Instagett-y, just had to make peace to myself that it was Downing, not Downy, and it couldn't somehow be Buckingham. NHO "baronet", but I want one.

T: Nice clue, writers. Too bad it wasn't the worst self-inflicted wound, or the last (see Citizens United)

W: Cyprus. I imagined Sicily to be pretty close to Italy, not halfway to Africa. Another good and informative clue - why didn't we learn this in school?

Th: Chile and Colombia. Forgot about Peru, and not sure of their position so wouldn't have picked it anyway (incorrectly thinking Colombia is larger).
Spoiler
Peru is around the same size as Colombia. Colombia is approximately 1,138,910 sq km, while Peru is approximately 1,285,216 sq km.
F: WECIB but Rowling. I never thought of books like hers as "novels", but they are just as respectable as Moby Dick IMHO.

Somehow I knew Leyte was in the Phillipines, probably from daughters 8th grade Geography.
Name the Secretary of Labor in 1933? You got to be joking. Obviously is noteworthy as a feminist milestone, but that says more about our misogyny than it does women's capabilities.
I'll get around to reading Faulkner and any other novelists in hell :).

Happy New Year and Festivus, boardies!. A shout out to Mark for his weekly slog to run this poll, and the rest of the unseen warriors doing thankless jobs behind the scenes here.

A downright turble week. Went with Malta and King in the FJ misses with Rowling as a big forehead slap. Knew Perkins, but couldn't pull her name out in time, and had no clue about Snopes. Sigh.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.
