Alex: Wow. Okay.
Alex: Sarah Ann, from San Diego, California. A breast cancer survivor. You are a research professional. Is some of your research associated with cancer right now?
Sarah: Yes, it is. And I just got into it after--you have to learn so much when you're diagnosed with cancer. And you just dive right in. And so I chose to go into clinical trials coordinating--coordination.
Alex: A lot of good stuff coming, I hope.
Sarah: Yes.
Alex: Yeah. Good research?
[Sarah nods.]
Alex: All right.
Alex: Anneke Garcia is our champion. She is from Salt Lake City. You enjoy making gelatin.
Anneke: Yes.
Alex: When I was growing up, we had a lot of that stuff.
Anneke: I know. It's good stuff.
Alex: Yeah, but now...
Anneke: Well, I started out, just, you know, your standard fruity marshmallow things. But there's actually social media groups for bringing back the aspic, the salty thing, the--the tuna and mayonnaise. I think my most daring one to date was a pickle juice gelatin that I--
Alex: Pickle juice?

Kevin, Barbara, Mark, Daymond and Lori representing with no Robert this time. The J! round was completed even with those videos clues done earlier in the round. I was happy to get 5/5 since I do watch the show.
The FJ! clue stumped me and I scribbled Doyle at the end to avoid a blank page even though I felt strongly I was doubly wrong in suspecting he was both dead in 1938 and was a doctor.
This is the only clue I could find in the Archive to have the artist/movement and the guy:
Too far back and not enough repetition over the years to help me.
What’s that noise? Oh, I think I hear the sirens of the wagering police.

#794, aired 1988-02-04 ART $100: One goal of this Spanish surrealist is the exact rendering of Freudian dreams

The wagers!!
Moderately surprised at the FJ misses. Surrealist paintings look a little crazy —> who’s a very famous doctor to crazy people —> Freud. QED.

I got there in 30 seconds, but I needed at least 20. Having the word Doctor in the clue might have helped. I had to go back and look at the category.Elijah Baley wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:53 am The wagers!!

The trivia gods are messing with me today as Millionaire (I watched after J!) had a Q about my wrong guess for the FJ! clue.
The % for the FJ! clue is going up from the 0/3 on the show to 0/4 after my post and now up to 2/6.

2/7. The best I could get to in 30 seconds was the nowhere-near-close Hugh Lofting.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 12:16 pm The trivia gods are messing with me today as Millionaire (I watched after J!) had a Q about my wrong guess for the FJ! clue.

This game is a win for the Strong Form of Shore's Conjecture. The second-place player bet "big." --Bob
Re: Friday, January 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I've heard of a "weakest link", but NHO the proverb they had surrounding that phrase, so it threw me for a loop and cost me the run.
The Shark Tank category seemed incredibly YEKIOYD. This whole board seemed strangely cryptic, come to think of it.
Also 0/5 in Earls.
I thought that Dutch Schultz guy was far more obscure than anything else in Dutch. My only precall was all the way down at $800, so I think the values were a tad off.
Ran Adjectives.
NHO the IRA. Had to look it up to see what it even stood for.
Had no idea where to even start on FJ! Massive headslap on reveal. I just don't have Freud filed in my head as "Doctor", so he didn't surface. Just like I didn't have "The Sopranos" filed under "drama" in my head.

I guessed Freud with zero confidence, but I'll take it.

When in doubt, blurt out Freud. Complete WAG, but they all count.
9300 didn't cover Jocelyn, but at least I can see the logic. Why the hell did Jocelyn bet 10000?!? (Yes, I know, probably a Nice Round Number...damnit.) At least her DD wagers probably didn't make a difference; I definitely wasn't a fan of betting 3000 while down 11K.

Lach Trash: Idaho, Baltimore Orioles, Helsinki Accords

I absolutely loved Anneke's wager. It keeps Sarah out of the picture and defeats Jocelyn keeping Sarah locked out by a couple of bucks in a TS. Better still, she beats any intelligent wager from Jocelyn when they are both correct.
I was pleased to see a video clue of Starved Rock. I've spent many hours walking the trails there.

You're right, given the results of the game, her wager was great! It wins if all 3 are right and it wins if all 3 are wrong. As long as she knows second place will bet $10,000, it's the perfect wager!Category 13 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 10:36 pmWhy?econgator wrote: The less said about the wagers, the better.

Surrealism is like dreams...Freud wrote The Interpretation of Dreams...I found this one pretty easy...
