Play along for pancreatic cancer research

Post by boson »

Tomorrow night - March 15th - honor Alex Trebek and fight pancreatic cancer by pledging 1$ for cancer research for every question you get right on Jeopardy!

The link above is to the pancreatic cancer action network, but donate to the relevant charity of your choice. #jplayalongchallenge

Let's use this thread: check in if you are going to play a long and tell us how much you are contributing!

I'm in!

I'll probably donate to the Canadian Cancer Society, to avoid cross border issues.

I will be playing either late this weekend/early next week. Work travel has me going other side of the country and throwing off my regular schedule. Donating to PanCan

I hope tomorrow is not one of those games where I wind up not getting a single clue right.

For those wishing to donate in Canada, we've named the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation and Pancreatic Cancer Canada as places where you can donate. I'm also working to find out from the show if they, or if Alex himself, has a preferred charity for donations.

46 + FJ correct (36800 Coryat) for me!

Thanks for the links in Canada NoWhammies.

I'm going to donate now. Anyone else going to use Jeopardy to do some good against an awful disease?

I was worried I'd make about 10 bucks, and the first two categories are PGA Golf and 3 letter Science! Open the wallet! I haven't kept score in two years, but went 20+12, maybe a couple more if I get over the impulse to CLAM. I'll round it up to a smarter number and send it to Canada where it will be worth more as AT is fond of joking. I'll wait a few days in case someone can provide some improved logistics or instructions to give the boardies props.

Thanks for this, and I love the idea of Canadian charities who probably get better return on the research buck.

I only managed to come up with 20 correct responses, but at least I like this better than that ice bucket challenge. I have been challenged to do it again by a fellow Wheel alum via Twitter and I am up to the task, so I could be donating about $40 to stop pancreatic cancer.
Just a person who loves game shows.

I did not get 61 right but for the sake of charity, I'm going to pretend I did.

23 correct in single Jeopardy, 15 in double, got the Final correct for 39/60. Bumping donation up to $40.

ETA: I gave "flummox" as a response for the $400 clue in "X," which is a synonym for "perplex", so I'm counting it as correct and bumping double to 16 correct. Total is $40.

I had 43/61 last night, thanks to the PGA and three-letter science categories plus a couple others I didn't know. Since my husband and I are living on a really low budget thanks to part-time employment and full-time school, I donated .50 per correct response to the Lustgarten Foundation.

Not a great night for me, only 27/61. But the Lustgarten Foundation got $27.

I am very pleased to announce that an anonymous Boardie has VERY generously matched all of the donations in this thread on a two-to-one basis, and has donated $664 to the Lustgarten Foundation (a Charity Navigator 4-star charity that funds pancreatic cancer research). Three cheers for the Boardie and hopefully a step toward finding a cure. You're an awesome Boardie!
