Not that being a workout video was part of the clue.

I had Fonda in under ten seconds.
Trying to think of a few plausable incorrect responses, and I can only come up with Olivia Newton-John (Billboard ranked the song Physical as the #1 single of 1982 (since the chart year for 1982 actually began in November 1981).)
or Kim Carnes, whos monster hit Bette Davis Eyes was a year too early for the clue.

Coryat: 38,600
46 R/3 W
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: papaya, bell pepper, Bob Woodward, porcupine

If James makes an extremely long run, this will be one of those "what might have been" games.

Am I the only one who was flummoxed by Idioms $1000 because of misreading "6-word" as "6-letter"?

I thought of Madonna and Susanne Sommers before thinking of Jane Fonda just before time ended. I am five years older than James.

I initially thought Madonna, but somehow I ditched my "video" = music video assumption. I couldn't think of a 1982 porn actress, and made my way to exercise videos; after a brief detour back into music videos with Olivia Newton-John, I recalled my parents' friend's Jane Fonda videos at her house. (And for the demographic detail, I was not born yet in 1982.)

Count me in the "started with Madonna but switched to Jane Fonda in time" club.

What a pro performance!
I wonder if they gave the newbies extra buzzer practice to try to level the playing field? James handled the demotion of his buzzer prowess well.

Great game by Stephanie and Lewis - ironically a weaker co-challenger might have given Lewis the upset with his sole get. James did not squander his position.

Baby Boomer got Bone Spur Jane instaget. Reminds me my first VCR cost $800 - I went for the VHS, sister went for the Laserdisk, nobody bought Beta, and Laserdisk wound up being the survivor. It was uncommon to buy movies at first - about $50 a pop. Don't forget to rewind the rental

as of 2013 she was the only non engineer to be inducted into the video hall of fame...so the list won't have any notables other than her i imagine
This seems very hard to find, my google-fu has yet to find an official hall of fame website or list of inductees. A great many of the references to it are in relation to Jane Fonda, as she mentions her induction in her book, it was making me wonder at first if she made the whole thing up and Jeopardy! bought it. However I did eventually find some other inductees and links to news articles about several of the ceremonies, one as recently as 2017, linked below. Some of the more notable names I came across as inductees were Steven Spielberg and Netflix founder Reed Hastings.

Both challengers played well but were asleep at the wheel when it really mattered!

I got papaya and bell pepper and Escaped Bengal Tiger, but man, those categories should not have been tackled from the bottom up.

Also: how come Alex explains Bob's Burger category but not emergency declaration?

Also: the $2000 box is not where'd I start looking for a DD

'The Experts' is a new entry for me. Bruegel, on the other hand :)

Based on tonight, I don't see James getting to 74 games

FJ: Madonna, but figured I was missing something there. Anyway, not the worst guess, her debut album came out in 1983. I kept thinking the Sex book, but it wasn't jiving with the clue and I gave up. I'm going to start pausing FJ when I'm not sure I have it to see if I can't get better at solving these

Once again, we get another close game for our high-flying champion James in the first round. Yesterday, an $800 lead, and now a $400 lead heading into Double Jeopardy. First, a DD miss from James, now we see an FJ! miss from James. What's next for this guy?

But man, did this turn much more dangerous for James to be dangling from. Had he not uncovered the 2nd DD, Lewis for sure would have had him. But this shows that, sometimes, even the best of champions have an off-day when they repeat as champ. He came into this averaging almost $60,000 per game, and now because of this, he averages $54,313.

Lewis had no incorrect answers AND got FJ! right and still couldn't win. It's amazing how this season's gotten through, with so many weird twists and turns, and a lot of "What if" moments that could have been questioned. And still, we're being treated to an impressive player like James. Much like Matt Jackson, it's like he's living the moment, he's given the chance to be on the show, and making the most of it.

I'm interested to see if James can make a big swing of things in season 35. It's just a matter if he can keep his composure and stay focused...because he sort of found out the hard way of what it's like to win ugly.
Jeopardy! is like History. It's a mixed bag of categories that try to test your knowledge to see if you know or can recall answers that seem familiar to the viewer.

The reference to viruses as organisms in one of tonight's categories was incorrect. Viruses possess some characteristics of living organisms but lack others. More properly, they are obligate intracellular parasites.

I believe he attempts to wager an amount that can be interpreted as the date of the birthday.
Spoiler
He messed up Scarlett's birthday today and tried it again in tomorrow's episode.

Not much older than James here and I got it, though I did initially think Madonna before quickly realizing, "No, music videos don't sell like that. At all."
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): Everything Everywhere All at Once (10), Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken (6), Black Sunday /1960/ (6), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (7)

For FJ I first thought Michael Jackson for the Thriller video but then there was the "she" part of the clue.

I imagine the Bob's Burger category was a promotion, while Emergency Declaration was easily understood if they started at the top...
HBO had an excellent Jane Fonda doc on last year that would have helped anybody get this FJ, whether of an advanced age or not...

Agree, he is waisting mental effort on this, also with the date specific amounts when he has to make a DD wager under a time constraint.
A savvy opponant should counter him by wagering a random amount ending in two odd number digits, like 37, on the first DD they hit. If it's early in the J round, wager the max minus $21. This would throw a monkey wrench into James' cute FJ wagering if the game is not a runnaway. Better yet, not a crush. You never know, it could force a critical math error in those situations too.
It might also be enough of a distraction to make him forget the category after the clue is given, if he spends too much time nickel dickin' with his wager.

I believe there was a Ken Jennings game fairly early in his run where if one of the challengers was able to get FJ right, Ken would have lost. Just an example of how close the margins can be - James was one failed DD find away from a potential loss and may have actually lost if this was a 2-player game with a third wheel rather than three strong players.

Stephanie obviously needed to go all-in on that DD. She wagered strongly if it was an average game - but against James, you have to throw whatever strategy you may have had when you received the call out the window. You aren’t beating James without playing the game his way (unless he missed on a big DD!) Still, both challengers had the skill and speed to be multi-day champs themselves.

When you are off your game a tad and have $30K sitting in front of you entering final, life is good.

The set of contestants hoping this streak goes for a LOT longer are the 4-day champs on the TOC bubble.

would love to see it, but i doubt it...most jeopardy people love their even number wagers...personally...i hate even numbers...when i play poker online i always make the amount an odd number...it annoys people...which is what an odd number wager on jeopardy might do kind of like you said
