I considered Whitman, but then "The Road Not Taken"/Frost clicked.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

Not able to retrieve Anne Sullivan, but knew the boardies would wipe it out.
Final answer was NATO/USSR after flailing for something better like Eastern Bloc, etc..

Sabotaged myself on Uranus, no puns forthcoming. ETA - Oops, wrong clue. I don't even remember the Cassini question.
Mrs. Dottie Engelage taught me typing and did not allow key-peeking or hunt and pecking :).
NHO the ancient text.

On Thursday my dad indicated he had it, and I said, "It's not as simple as North and South Korea, is it?" and with some prompting from him I was able to come up with NATO, but not the Warsaw Pact.

What a disaster of a week for me! I've definitely peaked and should stop taking the online test lest I accidentally get an audition and The Call and take a spot from someone who wouldn't become a national embarrassment. Either that or I could become a teacher and try to get in on the Teachers Tournament. I think I can still perform at or above the level of most of this year's crop.

Robert Frost was easy peasy and I knew the poem title as well. Anne Sullivan was an educated guess (ha ha) that I wasn't surprised to find was correct. After that, things went bad. Couldn't pull security blanket though I definitely knew the term and its association with Linus and it all seems clear in retrospect. I'm too fuzzy on what the Warsaw Pact was to fill in that blank so went with NATO and Soviet Bloc. And I started too far west in Friday's FJ even though 1820 should've prompted me to try the coast.

Recognize the name Cassini but couldn't have pulled it up to get that clue. Would've guessed Galileo if forced. Don't know anything about Lysistrata so no chance there. Would've guessed The Trojan Women if forced, but it turns out that's by Euripedes. At least I knew Mavis Beacon. Yay me.

Security blanket an instaget, as was NATO & Warsaw Pact
Missouri on Friday but I knew it was wrong
Cassini, Lysistrata, Mavis Beacon -> typing all instagets

(I learned to type on a manual without letters on the keys. First learned Cassini <—> Saturn connection at about 7 yo from Asimov’s Lucky Starr and the Rings of Saturn; knew Lysistrata from reference in Heinlein’s The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress. And Peanuts has been my favorite comic since I taught myself to read at 4 yo.)

I guess I underthought Monday's. The "grassy"/Whitman connection seemed deep enough for the teacher's tourney.

"Good grief" was the first thing that sprang to mind on Wednesday, but as it didn't make any sense I kept thinking and "security blanket" came quickly after. I remember Schulz citing it as his proudest bit from the strip, having become part of "Americana".

If it's called a "life skill", I probably don't have it. NHO Mavis Beacon.

My first exposure to the Aristophanes quote was from a Justice League of America comic book where the Flash doesn't know who said it, but "whoever it was, he was dead on". Lysistrata has been sort of trending lately, thanks to Alyssa Milano and the state of Georgia.
I'm smart and I want respect.

Took the grassy negbait on Monday and said Whitman. Misread Thursday's clue as needing two countries and said USSR and North Korea.
This week could've been worse considering security blanket and Maine came to me within the last 10 seconds each day.

Knew the right poem on Monday, but had no idea who authored it. NATO and Warsaw Pact was an instaget. The rest was a long, useless jumble with not even a reasonable guess anywhere. Spent my time on Friday running through the South and Midwest in my head, looking for two neighboring states starting with the same letters. Never even thought of checking New England. Probably would have been better to run through states alphabetically, but I don't know them that way. Although I was pretty darn sure that the first ones that came to mind, Alabama and Alaska, wasn't the right pair.
