2019 World Quizzing Championships

Post by sarisson »

Results are slowly coming in... lots of boardies and contestants at the top. I set a new personal record of 100, 19 higher than my last two tests. Most people's scores improved.

Yeah, I had to scroll way down to find my score.

Thanks to whoever posted a reminder about this the other day. I schlepped down to Wall Street and took the test for the first time. Some real brutal questions, but I think I did ok. Curious to see where I fall in the standings

I also got 100, and on the way home, I got trapped under a supercell and am waiting in a hotel lobby in Bowling Green, OH for the roads to be less flooded. I think that all the potential tornadoes have already passed. I now extremely regret taking the time to do some sightseeing in East Lansing and Lansing than going straight home.

Big storm between Pittsburgh and Cleveland as well. No funnel clouds spotted, though. I’d say let’s get a regular Ohio venue started but just quizzing in the same room with all these other high scorers seemed to help my performance.

Hurray for us!

This was my first WQC. Now that I'm done with school, I had time to find and reserve a location, and I'm glad it worked out. It was a lot of fun.

It is mind-blowing that the same two guys always finish 1-2 (and, as far as I can remember, always in the same order).

It's interesting that Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter never seem to take part in this. I wonder why?

I’d guess because there’s only downside for their reputations by participating.

Yes, in '12 or so it was where he first met James.

Ken plays it most years. I was surprised to not find his name in the standings. I'm not sure if Brad ever has.

Usually pretty quickly. Not exactly sure, though.

According to the WQC people, they should be up Tuesday or Wednesday.
