Former London mayor Boris Johnson will become the new prime minister of the United Kingdom after winning the Conservative party leadership race. Johnson replaces Theresa May, who will step down on Wednesday.

In a 2012 interview with David Letterman, Johnson was asked if he might one day become prime minister. Johnson quipped, “I’ve about as much chance of being reincarnated as an olive.”

Wilson is no long the only surname shared by a UK PM and a US Pres. (Harold and Andrew/Lyndon.)

Andrew Bonar Law is no longer the only UK PM born outside the UK. (ABL was born in Canada, BJ was born in New York.)

So there are six other Prime Ministers who were born during the reign of the same Monarch who reigned when they were appointed Prime Minister.

I know three of them definitely. Theresa May, David Cameron, and William Pitt the Younger.

My best guesses for the other three are Earl of Liverpool(Succeeded Spencer Perceval and the final prime minister who served under George III), Earl of Rosebery(Served in the 1890's under Victoria), and Marquess of Salisbury(The final Prime Minister under Queen Victoria.).

EDIT: I seem to recall that Spencer Perceval was pretty young when he was assassinated. So he could be one of those seven.

Broadway director and producer Hal Prince, whose work changed the course of musical theater in the twentieth century, has died at the age of 91. Prince directed such landmark musicals as Cabaret, The Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Sweeney Todd, and Company.

As a producer, he brought to the stage such enduring shows as West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, The Pajama Game, Damn Yankees, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

Hal Prince received a record 21 Tony Awards, a Kennedy Center Honor, and the National Medal of Arts.

On a side note, Prince was the basis for John Lithgow’s character in Bob Fosse’s film All That Jazz.

Hall of Fame middle linebacker Nick Buoniconti has died at the age of 78. Buoniconti was a leader of the famed "No-Name Defense" that helped the Miami Dolphins win Super Bowl VII, capping off the NFL's first and only undefeated season (1973).

A six-time AFL All-Star and two-time Pro Bowler, Buoniconti began his professional career with the Boston Patriots before joining the Dolphins. He is a member of both the Patriots Hall of Fame and the Dolphins Honor Roll. He is also a member of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame.

Buoniconti went public later in life about his struggles with dementia, and in 2017 he pledged to posthumously donate his brain to CTE research. Doctors confirmed that Buoniconti had brain issues possibly related to his football career, but they would not state publicly that he had CTE, as the diagnosis is not currently possible prior to death.

Buoniconti was also captain of the 1961 Notre Dame football team.

The Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees will play a 2020 regular season game at the site where the movie Field of Dreams was filmed. It will be the first Major League Baseball game ever played in Iowa.

MLB will build a temporary 8,000-seat ballpark at the Dyersville, Iowa, site for the game. The plan is for a pathway through a cornfield to take fans to the ballpark, which will overlook the actual movie location. The right field wall will include windows to show the cornfields beyond the ballpark.

In the 1989 movie, Kevin Costner's character plows under a portion of his cornfield to build a baseball field. When he does, players from the disgraced 1919 White Sox team emerge from the corn to play baseball once more.

I'd always wanted to visit there, but when I read up on it, the consensus seemed to be that it is underwhelming, ticky-tacky, and there are basically two groups fighting over it. So I haven't bothered trying to get there.

I wouldn't take a special trip all the way to Iowa for it, but if you're in the area anyway (I was in Dubuque for a wedding), it's a neat little place to stop over.

Peter Fonda died this week at the age of 79. He became something of a counterculture icon when he co-wrote, produced, and starred in the 1969 road movie Easy Rider. Fonda, Dennis Hopper, and Terry Southern were Oscar nominated for their Easy Rider screenplay.

He was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for the 1997 drama Ulee’s Gold. Otherwise, his acting career was largely undistinguished, with roles in such movies such as The Wild Angels, Futureworld, Cannonball Run, Dirty Mary Crazy Larry, Escape from L.A., Ghost Rider, and Wild Hogs. Fonda did make a memorable appearance in the well-received 1999 thriller The Limey.

Fonda was the only son of acting legend Henry Fonda, and Oscar-winning actress Jane Fonda was his sister.

His daughter, actress Bridget Fonda, is married to film composer (and Oingo-Boingo founder) Danny Elfman.

Peter Fonda's 1998 autobiography was memorably titled Don’t Tell Dad: A Memoir.

FWIW, TMZ is reporting that Jay-Z will soon acquire a “significant ownership interest” in an NFL team, which would make him the first black team owner in league history. Earlier in the week, Jay-Z’s company, Roc Nation, struck a deal with the NFL encompassing entertainment and social justice.

Jay-Z previously owned a stake in the NBA’s (then) New Jersey Nets, which he purchased in 2004 for $1 million and sold nine years later for $2.35 million.
