9 clues not played. It would have been nice to see the other 8 in SONGS & BASEBALL MANAGERS as I would expect to sweep the baseball and get at least 2 of the songs.
At the end of the DJ! round it looked like Kevin noticed his slim lead and decided it was a good move to finally go to BASEBALL MANAGERS as a spot to keep his lead even if he did not like the category. If that was the thinking I would have finished SPIN with the $400 clue. Whatever it worked and Kevin quickly overcame his farm loss at DD3.
Kate seemed like her $2000 scoreboard reversal for not pluralizing the Canada place in GO WEST $1000 in the J! round sent her into shock for a lot of the DJ! round.
The FJ! category put fear into my heart while the clue was one to easily handle as that state and that year led to one thing. 4/4 on Thursdays. Yay.
Kevin seems to be regressing in each game and he's on his way to being Richard Matheson's "Incredible Shrinking Man." 3 wins is 3 wins and he could put himself in line for a possible ToC spot with a win tomorrow.

I had to shake away "flyover country" to get myself back to the obvious correct response.

Doesn't get much more specific than Oklahoma in 1936...

I came up with the right answer instantly and spent the rest of the time trying to think of anything else to possibly consider, and came up with Tornado Alley but quickly dismissed it.

Coryat: $27,400
34 R (2 DDs), 1 W--Missed the ob-JECT/OB-ject DD, only other neg was saying ice bucket challenge rather than picking up trash.
FJ--Immediately thought Dust Bowl, but as it seemed too obvious, and because my brain seems to think of the Dust Bowl as a period of time rather than a place, I thought of actual geographic terms and went with Great Plains.
LT: PGA Championship, Northwest Territories, Lanai, rifling, McCullough, George III (DD), Herman Wouk (DD), James Baldwin, Yankees

Have an idea for the four unplayed clues in SONG ROYALTY & NOBILITY:
$200: 1975 (from the creators of "Bohemian Rhapsody"): Killer (BLANK)
$400: 1992 (by the Spin Doctors): Two (BLANK)s
$800: 1997 (by Metallica): (BLANK) Nothing
$1000: 1980 (by Black Sabbath): Neon (BLANK)s
Comments, anyone?

Your divide of three royalty and two nobility makes sense. This being J! I would expect more accessibility for Joe & Jane America.MDCSWildcats86 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 6:01 pm Have an idea for the four unplayed clues in SONG ROYALTY & NOBILITY:

Re: Thursday, October 3, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
This was one of the roughest games I've seen in a while. Super low scores, LTAM with nearly half the board still in play in both rounds...
I've never heard "detail" as a verb meant to assign. The only way I've ever heard that as a verb is in the sense of detailing a car.
Mastoiditis = hearing was a dud clue IMO. I too went with eating because of mastication.
I got to basura = trash but couldn't quite noodle what they were going for on that clue.
Word and phrase categories are usually good to me, so I was looking to break my early-season FJ! dry spell. Blah blah blah region of the US, 1930s, Oklahoma, instaget.
Lach Trash: Tony Lama

I grew up in Kansas and I don't associate the term "Dust Bowl" with the region outside of the context of the historical event of the 1930s. So I considered it, and rejected it in favor of Great Plains.
I immediately knew Northwest Territory would be reversed after thinking of the infamous "Yukon Territories" FJ from a couple years ago.

The buzzer saved the Baseball Managers category from being a meme-worthy repeat of the infamous Football category.
Dust Bowl was my first thought, was worried it might have been coined earlier, but just made way too much sense. Glad I trusted my instincts.

Uncanny, how often that happens. If Kevin were a starting major league pitcher, it would be time for Earl Weaver to make a trip to the mound.CasketRomance wrote: what a waste...the 2 best categories in that game went more than half unanswered

Re: Thursday, October 3, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Man, this was sad. My LT on PGA championship, (Edison's) hearing, lanai, pulsar, rifling, and Yankees was enough to go into FJ in a tie with Kevin from the imaginary 4th podium. That plus my all-in instaget FJ won the game. And all those clues left unrevealed? UGH.
I knew about Edison's hearing difficulty without this clue, which was good for me because the awkwardness of phrasing and mention of mastoiditis made me think I would never have figured this one out without knowing it going in.
Well, Kevin made it into the J! players HoF, but it really wasn't pretty. Have to see how the guy rebounds after a seriously subpar win.
