TOC semifinal matchups are up
Monday: Emma, Dhruv, Kyle
Tuesday: James, Steven, Rachel
Wedesday: Francois, Gilbert, Lindsey
https://www.jeopardy.com/contestant-zon ... -champions
In other words, pretty much what most of us were expecting after an image showing Monday's contestants went up on the J! website a couple of days ago.

I'll predict Emma, James, and after that last performance, Francois.

Re: TOC semifinal matchups are up
Based on the QF round only. All semifinalists got their FJ! clues correct.
Emma: (W3) 20,400 Coryat, DD1+1000, DD2+4000, 1st entering FJ!, 23R, 1W
Dhruv: (W4) 16,600 Coryat, DD2-3000, 1st entering FJ!, 20R, 1W - the DD
Kyle: (WC2) 12,000 Coryat, DD2+2000, DD3-4000, 3rd entering FJ!, 19R, 3W
James: (W2) 31,200 Coryat, DD3+1109, Lock, 33R, 1W
Steven: (WC1) 9,200 Coryat, 2nd entering FJ! locked out, 19R, 3W
Rachel: (WC4) 10,000 Coryat, 2nd entering FJ!, 15R, 1W
Francois (W1) 25,600 Coryat, DD1+2500, DD3+8000, Lock, 24R, 0W
Gilbert (W5) 7,800 Coryat, DD1+1800, 2nd entering FJ!, 14R, 2W
Lindsey (WC3) 9,800 Coryat, DD1+1800, 2nd entering FJ! locket out, 13R, 0W
The numbers and matches say Emma, James & Francois in the finals. It fits the scenario of James vs. Emma part deux.
What could throw a wrench into the works?
SF1 - Emma finds no DDs and Kyle and/or Dhruv do not miss for big bucks. Emma bested Josh and Eric on the buzzer so I see no reason she can't ring in best against Dhruv & Kyle.
SF2 - Steven hangs tough enough against James including a big DD play to keep Rachel in play. The FJ! clue is a bastard of some kind of oldish pop culture stuff that has eluded James leaving Steven to take it from second place. Even wilder is Rachel gets a sole solve and pulls a stunner.
SF3 - Gilbert was no buzzer demon against Kyle & Anneke and Francois-Lindsey should make it even more difficult for him. Lindsey is scrappy so I put nothing past her including even outplaying Francois. Francois is the favorite and needs another strong game to make the finals. Colby is the only TT winner so far to do it. Last go around Jason Sterlacci had an excellent QF game, narrowly trailed in the semis and then missed his FJ! clue anyway against Buzzy.
If the powers can pull off the Emma, James, Francois finals it follows the trend of somewhat wanted/expected results happening with tournaments.
All-Stars - Ken & Brad [X]
2017 ToC - Buzzy & Austin in the finals [X]
2015 ToC - Matt & Alex in the finals [X]
Julia, Arthur and Ben were the finalists before that and so on and so on.
Oh yeah, Battle of the Decades there it was: Ken, Brad and Roger.
At some point on J! things can't go according to Hoyle. A Kyle, Rachel, Gilbert final would be a tough one to find in various posted predictions and expectations.

Re: TOC semifinal matchups are up
For buzzer speed I put Dhruv on equal footing (handing?) with Emma. I think Emma has a broader knowledge base but if Dhruv gets in a groove he can run a category in the blink of an eye. This will not be a match to be shy with the DD wagers.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 1:56 am SF1 - Emma finds no DDs and Kyle and/or Dhruv do not miss for big bucks. Past data does not match your hypothesis.

Re: TOC semifinal matchups are up
Looks fun. I feel like the Monday and Wednesday games could both be competitive, although it wouldn't surprise me if Emma and/or Francois dominated their respective games. I don't expect James to have any problems on Tuesday, but I'd love to see someone give him a bit of a challenge!

I'll predict the same three finalists. Most likely to break up the party: Dhruv and Lindsey.

Re: TOC semifinal matchups are up
Based on Coryats it looks like Emma got fed the hardest semifinal matchup, not the easiest, like some were saying she would be. (Short of being matched against one of the other two Coryat leaders, James and Francois.)

I'm wondering if James's tweet from a few weeks ago is an indicator of him losing in the semifinals.

Someone has posted a tweet here from James that said that some people didn't play as well as they were going to after hearing about Alex's health.

Did Alex make that announcement before they started taping the semifinals, before the finals, or between Emma's and James' respective semifinal matches?Cat Hammarskjold wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 6:34 pmSomeone has posted a tweet here from James that said that some people didn't play as well as they were going to after hearing about Alex's health.

To me a tweet like that makes it less likely for James to have lost, as he wouldn't post a blatant spoiler. Instead I believe he's being a gracious winner. But we'll soon see.Cat Hammarskjold wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 6:34 pmSomeone has posted a tweet here from James that said that some people didn't play as well as they were going to after hearing about Alex's health.
