Re: Tuesday, November 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Was the first break a game of spot the board member?
Alex was ready to follow up on Kevin's chat session yesterday with an opening twist of, "Hey, Johnny."
Part of doing well on the show is understanding categories. ISLANDS IN THE "C" had the players not getting what to do with the first clue. Fortunately, it was only $400 and not more.
Barbados & Bonaiare: This big "C"
Shannon: What is Curaçao?
Sathvik: What is Grand Cayman?
TS. Hey, Kevin, wake up.
Sathvik got two cracks at DD3 to get close enough although it would have been nice if he had just got "Trojan" in there from the start.
Once again the FJ! category hid good news. Yesterday it was an unexpected presidents path and today it was entertainment.
I likely would have solved the clue anyway, but having seen this segment on Ellen made sure it was a lightning quick solve: https://www.ellentube.com/video/kevin-t ... uster.html
3/3 on big clues for Sathvik for a nice debut.

And one more thing - No squawking about Isabelle as it's fine. You are more than welcome to get on the show and say Isabella.

That FJ franchise has been in the news recently enough that I remembered it was in Bend. Must've been a network news program or possibly Inside Edition.

NHO in the top box: "Shallow"
0/5 in Husbands & Wives and Aeneid, Ran 11-Letter Words.
Should've run Fictional Places, but blanked on both Milne and Keillor.
All but "voice vote" in "Vo". That seemed considerably more obscure than "vortex".
I, too, wouldn't have thought to guess "Caribbean" on the category "Islands in the C". I thought they wanted an island beginning with C. NHO Sea of Cortez but got the next two.
I had the correct response before Alex was done reading the clue.
Lach Trash: Lil Wayne, greasepaint

Ran "vo"cab, got murdered by historical hodgepodge. Oh well, at least I know my weak point. I actually did way better in DJ! than J! because I couldn't clam myself. For some reason, I blurted out "NOAA" as the organization that certifies the boats, went with "Irish Pride" instead of "Celtic Pride" (and I'm from Boston - for shame!), and I got the same neg as the current champ for Loompaland...although it took me awhile to get to the name. I had to go "Elphaba, L.F.B., L. Frank Baum, Baum", all for the WRONG answer. Oompa Loomas are NOT Munchkins!
Instaget with the FJ!, even though I wasn't sure of the location of the Last Blockbuster. I'd just done some idle browsing, and stumped upon a parody twitter account for The Last Blockbuster. The years seemed right - a peak in 2004, just after DVDs were taking over from VHS. Streaming TV shows became a think around 2007 - I remember it being a big deal that NBC was offering streaming of episodes of "Heroes". Was that the first major network primetime show that was available (legally) online for free? Netflix was sort of in the background then, for real techie people with their "revolving queue" of DVDs-by-mail, and started getting into streaming around 2010. That's what killed Blockbuster.

Re: Tuesday, November 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
That's not real funny but it makes me wonder if the chain is poised for a comeback - the store seems pretty busy! I guess they're not cleaning up on people looking for a safety copy of The Way We Were, tho...MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2019 10:11 am

Bend, OR, didn't mean much...the stories I remember from a couple years ago were about the remaining stores in Alaska...But I figured it was either Blockbuster or The Gap, and I took a chance!...

Not a terrible guess. I think it was the number of stores at peak (9000!) that made the correct response hard to avoid, even if you'd not heard about Bend...
Funny, the Radio Shack store locator still exists, with a map showing hundreds of stores...but it doesn't work...
https://www.radioshack.com/pages/store-locator
The folks at Eddie Bauer (with 300 stores) must be unsettled this morning...

I'd be perfectly willing to swear I heard the new champ say HORTH. I think that's why he did not get immediate credit for Trojan Horse.
If I'd been there, I would have been tempted to say viva voce instead of voice vote, which still would have satisfied the category. General Robert rules!!!

I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.
