Re: Wednesday, December 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Alex loves reading Borat-centered clues.
Alex's opening went right to Jennifer's $1000 wager yesterday in the FJ! round and it was like an early chat session. Alex said Jennifer is a big movie fan. Jennifer said, "I didn't know which Oscar year it was going to be. If it was recent, eh, but if I had known it was my favorite movie, I mean I would've bet more, but...[chuckles].
At DD2 (clue 4)the scores were close with:
Jennifer: 6200
Doug: 4600
Denise: 4600 (lost $2000 on it)
By DD3 Jennifer had earned big separation up to 18200 with Denise at 7000 and Doug 6600. Doug lost 6000 for a repeat of yesterday with an opponent not converting a needed DD.
Runaway it is for superchamp status.
The FJ! category had me reminding myself to check on Hawaii, Alaska and New York if a map run was needed. Instead the clue was kind to narrow down the state. I did two things as first I wrote down the correct response and second knew I should have made it two words instead of the one I made with the fast scribble.
Alex had to sweat it out on his prediction that at least one player would get a correct response. I will never like any such remarks before the reveal of the clue. The host needs to save such comments until later in the round. It does not give anything way by "going out on a limb" as he said though my preference is not to have Alex's words in my head while solving.
Women champs after six wins:
Larissa Kelly $222,597
Jennifer Quail $171,400
Kerry Greene $146,598
Sandie Baker $140,200
Lisa Schlitt $139,100
Julia Collins $124,810
Stephanie Jass $123,970
Cindy Stowell $103,803
Only Julia and Stephanie won a 7th game.

Re: Wednesday, December 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
So is there a reason that my Coryats have gone completely off a cliff again? I'm constantly managing single-digit gets in DJ! rounds and seem to be misfiring a lot more than usual.
====
All but Panama in Hats and Citadel in In Full.
I had both Naval History and Italian Authors down as 0/5 before seeing a single clue.
Couldn't get marquee because I parsed the clue wrong and thought they were asking for a fixture inside the theater that holds the posters. I have never seen a marquee that also names the actors.
Got FJ! right away.
Lach Trash: bowler, guard, Jacksonville

So, "Medici" doesn't even get a BMS? It should never be asked for again.
Instaget FJ.

I'm guessing Knoxville would be counted as wrong... I think?

Coryat: $32,200 (41R, 0W)
DD: 2/3
FJ:
LT: guard, Foucault’s Pendulum (DD)
DJ seemed quite difficult today. Loved how Jennifer seemed to turn on the afterburners halfway through.
No idea on FJ, randomly guessed Knoxville and got my just reward.

Re: Wednesday, December 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Great, great run by Jennifer. Congrats to you, madam.
And a little aside note: Is it possible, after 35 years of hosting J!, that AT really hasn't learned anything about wagering strategy in FJ? Why else would he ask the champ why she wagered so little in Tuesday's game? Because the answer of course is, to bet large in that situation is, um, well, does the name Clavin ring a bell?
I spent a decade in Knoxville one year, so Oak Ridge was an instaget. Good thing, too. When I was the FJ category was National Historic Parks, I wondered whether they were referring to Rosa or Bert.

Precalled Foucault's Pendulum this morning from the J!6 categories.
Jennifer is rolling... a very long streak doesn't look out of the question.

she goes too much in order leaving daily doubles up on the board..all it takes is the opponents to get them and capitalize...i don't see her lasting too much longer with the current system she is using

I believe there was a notable champion from Oak Ridge, TN a few years ago.
I have no idea where I pulled this one from. The only reason I even know where it is is because I passed by it on my cross country move, and it just sounded right for whatever reason.

She showed some sloppyness in this game, with not staying clam and almost getting negged for phrasing.CasketRomance wrote:she goes too much in order leaving daily doubles up on the board..all it takes is the opponents to get them and capitalize...i don't see her lasting too much longer with the current system she is usingmas3cf wrote:

She keeps her opponents in the game with those random guesses. She could have been burned in today's game by not looking for the last DD, and the same thing happened yesterday. All it would take is one of her challengers converting a big DD wager and Jennifer getting FJ wrong. It's gonna suck to see a strong player go out that way, but I see it coming.
Also, She has held back on at least three of her runnaway FJ wagers, yet needlessly overwagered on two of her non-lock games. I'm not a fan of this system either.

Re: Wednesday, December 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The FJ category had me worried, as theirs (sic)* a ton of obscure National parks. So I get a freebie since the company I co-founded is the sole source in the free world for ceramic crucibles too melt Uranium and Plutonium since the '80s. .
I did wonder if naming the Tennessee city was to easy, but early returns bare out the choice. Naming Hanford would have been a vicious clue, whereas Los Alamos might have been a more friendly clue, and is the central cog in the Manhattan Project.
Jennifer looked vulnerable until DD3 lived up to it's top box billing. She isn't afraid to ring in with a guess, but it may be out of buzzer aggression instead of inability to clam.
*just trolling our chief with a few Trumpian nuggets - i have the same curse of nazi-grammar/spelling intolerance disorder. I promise not to do it again . My preferred parking spot is at risk! Now, typos and lazy shift keys, no prob..

I'd guess that would poll under 5%.
