Re: Friday, December 13, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Clever of Alex to pick a Star Wars topic for Jennifer at chat time to discuss her love of the franchise and how she knows the lines as in MOVIE ENCOUNTERS there was a clue wanting the characters who spoke a line from one of the films. Fortunately, Jennifer got it correct.
Jennifer owned the buzzer from the start and coasted to a lock with only +4000 on DDs in boxes worth 2600. Jennifer could have gone full farm on DD1 at 8000 to 1200 to 1000 although she could not know how much of a layup the clue would be in NELLIE BLY.
Someone will join me on missing the FJ! clue to quickly ruin the 100%. I instantly wrote "M" and before I could write another letter, switched gears to Kroc. What messed me up was knowing there were brothers for the correct response and thinking I needed one man. In not understanding the reason for the clue only wanting "the last name" I took it to mean a help for the contestants in avoiding a Ray vs. Roy potential error.
What I needed to do was pay more attention to the category BUSINESS NAMESAKES. To me I only processed it as "business" and did not grasp the business name was going to be the correct response.
Typical me good enough for six in a row and now looking at missing one all three players got (which does not happen a lot in S36) plus one Hammer should/better get as well.
No mention was made of it, but Jeanne had extra written that looked like Zot! (or 2OT?)
The Karate Kid had sweep the leg and Jennifer did "Sweep the Week" to earn a spot in next week's pool.

If you know what a "carhop" is, it's a layup.

I think Sonic still has carhops, but it's definitely a baby boomer's wheelhouse type of question.

Not necessarily.
Spoiler
Although the McDonald brothers developed the concept, Ray Kroc is the one who made McDonald's a household name.

Re: Friday, December 13, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The Founder (probably still available on Netflix) is a well-done history of the early years of the McDonald's franchise once Ray Kroc came on the scene. Watch this movie and you won't be getting any McDonald's history Finals wrong. For example, you'll certainly know that the brothers perfected the service concept of the restaurant; Kroc's contribution was successful franchising and the transformation of the business from a restaurant business into a real estate business. That said, if one interprets "our" broadly in the clue (in "our concept"), I can see how one might latch onto Kroc, even though the concept wasn't his.

Shout out to that movie for being how I felt really good about this one. I used to forget the McDonald brothers were the ones who actually started the whole thing and Kroc came in later.Robert K S wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 4:48 pm The Founder (probably still available on Netflix) is a well-done history of the early years of the McDonald's franchise once Ray Kroc came on the scene. Coryat $35200 (41R, 1W)
DD 2/3
FJ
Jennifer just wins and wins.
I felt like I struggled, but a $35k Coryat isn't going to make me kick myself.
McDonald's didn't even cross my mind on FJ. NHO carhops, and I ignored the category like a rookie and guessed Jeff Bezos. Not my finest moment. One of those "glad I wasn't on this episode" situations.

Not that it affects the final scores any, but shouldn't Lisa get dinged for 's? It's two kinds of wrong (It's not part of the last name, and there isn't an apostrophe in the restaurant name anyway :p)

Coryat: $33,000 (45R, 1W)
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: Morpheus, Ibiza
ALMOST said Kroc for FJ until I looked again at the category and realized that couldn’t be right.

Re: Friday, December 13, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Facts for $400 and $1,200 reminded me of my coworker Cherry: their fursona is a bat, and they hail from Louisville.
Ran Word War Z.
All but "kitchen island" in Home, all but Higgs boson in Matter, and all but Mandarin on Place Name (saw no way to win the coinflip on that one).
I fell for the Kroc negbait. It was written in giant flashing 300 point letters. Fast food name, famous as can be? Why would it be literally anything else besides Ray Kroc? It absolutely has to be Ray Kroc. AND I WORK AT ONE.

Re: Friday, December 13, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Were they looking for a franchise that DID AWAY with the (slow) carhops? Because I never knew McD to have them. I tried to come up with a franchise that HAD carhops and thought of Swenson's an Howard Johnson's (not sure if Hojo actually had them either) before just getting lost. On the bright side, my physics teacher father and nurse mother would be so proud of me that I scooped up Lach Trash for the Higgs Boson and Hansen's Disease (leprosy). And alas, my 3-for-3 start in FJ this week faded to 3-for -5. Shoot.
Meanwhile Jennifer starts to look well-nigh unstoppable. Way to go, champ!

There's no negbait; you simply didn't check the category.
