That's the way to avoid a Gangsta's" problem by asking for the artist instead.

Today's game being so much better made me think of this song: https://youtu.be/ZSfgCIGd7k4?t=23

I went for the AGT Champions contestant singing instead of the classic Dinah Washington version just to present a different one.

The FJ! category had me try five precalls: Bobbies/Peel, Scotland Yard, INTERPOL, Texas Rangers, and RCMP

The FJ! clue had me match Lisa & Claire and avoid trouble by not attempting to overthink into anything else.

What I wonder is if Lisa had kept her lead would she have bet enough to win? Katie bet $3K on her DD to go from 11000 to 14000 while still trailing Lisa with 16000 and seven clues to go. I would have thought it possible Katie did something conservative with her wager but the pan shot indicated to me Katie was all set to be playing again tomorrow no matter what Lisa did.

Is that what the writers do on their commute? Stare at the dash and come up with THE DASHBOARD LIGHT? I guessed two and took no negs to get out of that thing with $1600.

Instaget FJ... WECIB? The technology for DNA profiling wasn't invented until the 1980s.

This game is a draw for the Strong Form of Shore's Conjecture. The second-place player bet "small." --Bob

60 R
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: Dendrochronology, Diesel Engine, ESPN The Magazine, (Kansas City), Supreme Court, Angela Merkel

Organizations $2000 has a slight misrepresentation as it says "women's fraternity" rather than sorority.

Looks like no action needed by this archivist.

I overthought it. I knew that it was slightly too early for Edison’s video recording technology, but I got caught on that and went with surveillance.

I wondered if someone would misread the clue and go with DNA. I started with forensics but decided that was too vague and switched to fingerprint.

Loved the shoutout for the mullet toss.

Ran Weird Facts

I was completely lost on the first three Fairy Tales but got the bottom two. Never would've thought to guess just "leprechaun" on the top box.

Also overthought "tragedy" in the top box.

Wither/whither was my only miss in Homophones.

Gielgud was my only 0/5.

The stand-and-stare on Merkel was puzzling since they seemed to have no trouble with the category otherwise.

My brain went completely blank on this. I literally couldn't think of anything.

Coryat: $42,000 (49R, 1W)
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: ESPN The Magazine, Kansas City (DD), Supreme Court, Angela Merkel

Fun game to watch, all three seemed very knowledgeable. Ran Dashboard Light, Fairy Tales, Magazines and Organizations. Negged on Georgia as the Florida border state.

Not an instaget on FJ, but not too difficult to suss out. Forensics was too general, and it was obviously a century too early for DNA.

I had the correct answer, but also came up with a phone wiretap as a theoretical possibility. (I don't think 1892 technology would actually have allowed that.)

I fully expected Katie to come up short after she visibly wilted on the DD3 wager, but she did just enough to get to FJ! with the lead. Hopefully this win strengthens her resolve to take calculated risks in the upcoming game(s).

Proud of getting Lana Del Rey despite my advancing age and "all the kids listen to these days is noise" sensibilities in music. (Not really, but kinda.) And also for not accidentally calling her by the name of pro wrestler Sara Del Rey.

OTOH, I blanked on Prospero and Sir Laurence Olivier. I have also NHO Delta Gamma.
Sprinkles are for winners.

To be fair, there is a spot where you can go west from FL into GA.

Instaget FJ (which I needed after the beating my brain has taken while watching the GOAT tournament), AND I precalled that at least one of the contestants would say "forensics".

I pretty much have permanently pinned fingerprint evidence to becoming a thing in the late 19th century thanks to the old Ultima PC game Martian Dreams, where a bunch of eminent Victorians get stranded on Mars. One of them is Teddy Roosevelt, who is SUPER into fingerprinting, which ends up being really important near the end of the game.

I might have gotten FJ anyway, but knowing that Mark Twain's novel Pudd'nhead Wilson (1894) treats fingerprinting as a recent development cinched it.
