The Robb Stark's Grey Wind clue had Joshua give a 4-letter correct response while I raised him four for my 8-letter correct response.

Joshua needed to cover 32000 in the FJ! round and big bet advocates will like that he attempted to get up to 38400 while on the miss he was still above Sarah's starting point of 16000.

Joshua's 3 wagers were:
2200+2200 on DD1
17400+6000 on DD3 leading 12800 & 4400 with 7 clues left
27400+11000 on FJ

We'll see if Joshua has more fireworks from the champ's spot tomorrow.

The FJ! category had me run Gladiator to Green Book to be ready for anything Best Picture. In thinking about acting winners my mix included the subject of the FJ! clue for the double to make the FJ! round a welcome break from trying to sort through a lot of material in 30 seconds. It was definitely a case of "it's easy if you know it."

The clue could be a 2-second solve & write for some while a no-fun brainbuster for others. Watching live and using the break between DJ! and FJ! to warm up the Oscar-brain is helpful. I would think this clue might be tougher for those who do a the fast jump from the category's initial view right to the clue itself.

Hope no one figured out the right person but then could not recall his name.

Yep, I had a mental pic of his face, and still couldn't pull the name. Didn't help that I've never seen either winner, or even The Hunger Games.

I started seriously making flashcards just after last year's Oscars. I put 3 of the 4 acting winners on cards. Guess which one I didn't. Worse, I have him as a card for Moonlight, but it doesn;t mention "Supporting Actor", so I kind of thought he won in the main category.

There's a structurally similar clue recently posted in the Final Jeopardy Clues thread that also seems hard, but is significantly easier if you start current and work your way back.

I didn't love the structure of the question. The second half reads like an extra hint, but it's actually a limiter, since at least one other person (Waltz) fits the category and the first half.

It's grammatically accurate (I think) but not the way questions are normally written.

I kicked ass in the J! round. Ran Train of Thought, A Little Alliteration, Monroe, and Doctorin' for a killer 24/28.

Didn't run any categories in DJ!, but still had 20 right. $37,200 huh? Awesome.

NHO the correct response, nor the two films. I had literally no hope on this one.

Lach Trash: supermarkets/grocery stores, Black Beauty

That was the hardest FJ! in a spell. Even if you memorized all the Oscar winners, that's still a lot to think through in 30 seconds, and if you don't have every Oscar winner memorized, it's nigh impossible.

For FJ, it took about 3 seconds to discard Cristoph Waltz, and switch to the correct answer. I spent the rest of the music wondering if they would even try to spell Mahershala, but alas it was a TS.

Not sure what Ryan said, but we expected a reversal on colonialization

I panicked when final was revealed, but it clicked almost immediately. He won twice in recent years, so it’s noteworthy and I’m shocked it was a triple miss. Gosling though? Come on.

NHO Casey Jones. Well, not before the last time he came up on the show.

Coryat: $35,800 (49R, 0W)
DD: 2/3 (missed nave)
FJ: :(
LT ($3600): grocery stores, Black Beauty, suicide

I’ll miss Sarah, she was fun to watch.

14-day FJ streak comes to an end :( Could not think of it at all, wrote Bradley Cooper down just to write something down and knowing he's at least been nominated plenty.

I just realized today was my highest Coryat since I started keeping track again last June. Is this a good sign?

Instaget FJ!, but no way I would have tried to spell his first name under that kind of pressure.

Not that I was close, but why is everyone talking about spelling? Wouldn't "Ali" have been sufficient?

Coryat $42,200 (49R, 1W)
DD 3/3
FJ :(

Not coming up with Ali for FJ kept this from being my best game in a couple months. I might have gotten it if I had focused on trying to figure it out instead of cursing myself for not working on my Best Actor flashcards. Fun fact: I always thought Mahershala Ali would never be a correct FJ response because there is no way the writers would be sadistic enough to make people spell his name.

I had Sarah pegged as a possible TOC contender, but Joshua looked pretty strong in his debut.
