I've got a little time this afternoon, so I've started it. We'll see how far I get.

If anyone would like to earn their Junior Woodchuck "Assistant Archivist" badge, the computer I'm on has very poor speakers, & I'd certainly appreciate if anyone could transcribe Alex's closing remarks during FJ!, especially where he introduces the semifinalists.
It's just standard QF #5 remarks for announcing the QF winners and wildcards. I have QF 2-4 and just have not got around to getting them in yet.

If that is what you want:
Bob Carman 9300
Cecilia Moore 13400
Anne Laird 3799
George Soule 9800

Wildcards
Bernard Kiernan 10000
Judy Colby 6800
Margot Cameron 4000
Arnold Yellin 2700
I thought there might be more, but thanks anyway. I will need to go back and enter some of the FJ! explanation at a later time. This FJ! reminded me of a quote from Friday contestant Lynn Q. Yu's blog, about "all the famous US naval quotes (she's) now committed to memory." I bet she'd have batted away this FJ! clue with hesitation.

Let's make sure not to forget the link this time:

http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6573

1990 Senior's Tournament semifinal game #5, Bernard Kiernan vs. Hank D'Angelo vs. Louise Clemens, whose "originally from" was given simply as "Connecticut". All 3 players played very well. The AUTHORS category in DJ! was pretty hard. It adds to the J-Canon new works for Edna Ferber ("Saratoga Trunk"), Taylor Caldwell ("This Side of Innocence" & "The Devil's Advocate") and Edith Sitwell ("I Live under a Black Sun", although the clue is mostly name recognition), which you may as well put on flashcards. Definitely put "King Rat" by James Clavell in there, if you don't already know it.

Less card-worthy is IN THE NEWS for $300:
Mary Xinh Nguyen won this company's "Unforgettable Woman of 1989" grand prize
Spoiler
What is Revlon? (in conjunction with their "Unforgettable" perfume line, it seems. A google search for the name brings up the award as her major accomplishment. She practices law now.
For clue of the game, how about this geography clue masquerading as history, WORLD HISTORY for $1000:
When it gained independence in 1975, it became the smallest independent country in South America
Spoiler
What is Suriname?
And now back to 2002. Have a good day, y'all.

Thanks for adding the Seniors game, Myron. I added in the key portions of Alex's remarks when going to the gentlemen for the FJ! clue responses.

This is regarding the September 24, 1998 game (DAYTIME TV for $1,000): http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=815

ABC actually used The View to replace the failed 1996-97 talk show Caryl & Marilyn: Real Friends on August 11, 1997 (the half-hour soap opera The City ended in March 1997). I think this was an erratum on the show's part that thankfully did not affect the outcome of the game, but I thought I'd mention it here anyway.

I filled in 4/2/02: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=1734

Pics for Adam Epstein, Amy Borgstedte and Brendan Roche are in the archive.

All of the media links should work.

Check out how DD3 went down. Alex. Tsk, tsk.

Hi I'm new here. I have a VHS for 9/13/1991. I'd love to send it to someone. Do you guys digitize the video, or take down the questions/answers and scores?
Thanks!

I filled in 4/4/02: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=1736

Steve Cirelli, Cheryl Stouffer and Bill Alston have their pics in the archive and all of the clue links should work although the amusement park video does not have audio.

If you are not familiar with the the game that follows it then look at the scores after the DJ! round and work out the wagers for each person. After you see the actual bets then click on Bill's name to see his handle on a prior incarnation of the J! message board.

In this game check out the hot streak for Bill from where the scores were at clue 7 in the DJ! round to round to the next time an opponent is heard from: http://www.j-archive.com/showscores.php?game_id=1736

I was not sure where to draw the line so I included a lot of chatter after the DJ! round and through the FJ! round responses.

Is there an agreed-upon standard for board games getting italics or not? The archive is not consistent while I know correction suggestions will come in about it.

I would say yes, they should be italicized.

From the manual:
Major work titles--TV series, books, films, albums, plays and operas, albums--(or fractions thereof) should be italicized in this field, though they be only quotated in the clue text. Examples: Cheers, The Catcher in the Rye, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Der Ring des Nibelungen, Abbey Road. Foreign words and phrases should also be put in italics. (Use the HTML-style <i> tag.)
I would say no.

It's a good question... my feeling is that if there's some semblance of a story involved, it counts as a major "work" and should therefore be italicized. Probably the best idea is to follow Wikipedia. Yes to Carcassonne and The Settlers of Catan; no to chess and checkers.

Okay, the board games from the 4/4/02 game have italics from using Robert's wikipedia suggestion and thank you econgator and Myron as well.

Two more situations I run into are Alex giving a category explanation such as Mar"K".

The letter K will appear at the end of each clue.
or
The letter "K" will appear at the end of each clue.

************
For Video and Audio Daily Doubles, how and where to note them? I am definitely guilty of using (VIDEO DAILY DOUBLE) above the clue's wording or [AUDIO DAILY DOUBLE] or some form of Audio Daily Double without all caps.

Correction suggestions come in to strike any such notations, but how then to mark them for not being normal DDs?

Thanks, and sorry to bump the thread without it being about a new game added or filled in.

This is a tricky use–mention distinction use case. Here is my understanding based on the last time I researched it, but someone can correct me if they feel this is not correct:

The letter K will appear at the end of each clue. - RIGHT
The letter "K" will appear at the end of each clue. - WRONG
"K" will appear at the end of each clue. - RIGHT
K will appear at the end of each clue. - WRONG

For my part, I would prefer no notations, because the clue text field is supposed to be only for the text of the clue proper. These clues are "marked" video or audio by dint of having a video or audio link in them. But if you're so used to putting notations in, don't worry about it. That is the kind of extra information that can always be corrected later (deleted or restored as necessary).

I filled in 4/22/02: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=1748

It had two Video Daily Doubles and following Robert's preference there is no special marking other than the .jpg tags.

Jason Sass and Rod Bain faced Julie Moncrieff and their pictures are in the archive.

A correction suggestion came in for Mark McEwen being a WoFer: http://www.j-archive.com/showplayer.php?player_id=5049 if anyone knows how to fix that one.

For the currency I did separate lines and capitalized them since the clue presented them in three lines

For the FJ! clue I got it right while recalling another regular who had not yet hosted by 2002.

Note to Julie: anticipating second will wager to catch up to first is a fine strategy when you're in third place and can't catch second (even though you might as well bet it all). It's not so good when second place is within your reach (see the following game)!

I wonder if they would have given Heidi credit in the 4/23 game if she had finished her response.

I think so.

Having had time to write "the Merry W," she could have won if she had fully understood what the clue sought. Alas.
