I meant to comment earlier that the young players seem to be emulating James by starting with bottom row clues and have mostly been steamrolled by them with TS's or wrong guesses. I may have observer bias.
I would have gotten FJ from this version with blah blah blah Finch. The whole Nelle/Ellen middle name shtick put me in a catatonic state.
My takeaway is that Red Bull is now the establishment drink or the Facebook of energy drinks. To quote Yogi, "Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded".
Good job representing the Sho-Me state Londyn! But yeah, that whole Arab Sheik thing was weird.

I didn't remember the full Degrassi title. One of Drake's co-stars from that show tweeted about me when I was on J!.

I was about ready to turn off the TV if I heard Alex say "sophomore" one more time...
I'd say it took me a good 15 seconds to realize "Finch" was the important word in FJ. I could definitely imagine drawing a blank under pressure on this one.

I know Atticus Finch = TKaM, but I got so fixated on all the other words in the clue that it just didn't register at all.

I won't be alone, but middle name/first name Nelle got me there. Didn't need Finch.

Not me. I know the New Mexico border is longer, and I've driven from Yuma to San Diego, so I know the mileage is approximately 140.rockyboy34 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 1:09 am ^ Same here. Who else fell for the NM trap on the 1st DD?

For the record, AMC hasn't been American Movie Classics for more than 15 years, and when they do show movies they're more like the same old crap interrupted by dozens of commercials. Turner Classic Movies is still staunch...and I'm finding it a mainstay these days...talkingaway wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 10:53 pm TKAM is one of my favorite books, so this was an instaget. It also hits the J! tradition of multimedia clues - yes, it's ultimately a literature clue and you have to know the author, but it's also an acclaimed movie that's on a lot of AFI lists, another J! love. (Alex himself loves the movies shown on American Movie Classics, I hear.) And, of course, it's been in the news lately because of the recent play that is...well, was...on Broadway, and will hopefully be touring...uh, sometime soon. Plus, Harper Lee was in the news 5 years ago with the sequel/first draft, Go Set a Watchman.
Negged big time with "Degrassi: The Next Generation", with Degrassi High. Again, I'm old. If they were nice, they would have asked for the franchise and/or school name.
But who am I to talk...? I never knew TV graduated from DeGrassi Junior High...

I guessed CA, but the NM/Mexico border is only 175 miles, so it was kind of an evil clue. Almost as evil as the FJ asking you to name the southernmost state capital in the continental US, when Austin is about 10 miles farther south than Tallahassee, but roughly 1000 miles to the west so it's extremely hard to tell.floridagator wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 4:40 amNot me. The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

And naturally, Trebek would win that FJ from 2002.mas3cf wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 6:30 amI guessed CA, but the NM/Mexico border is only 175 miles, so it was kind of an evil clue. (Trebek wins FJ means that everyone got the answer incorrect.)

That was an... interesting conversation Alex had with Londyn there.
Vaguely remembered reading the first name thing, used grandma's surname as the corroboration, and here we are.

According to Wikipedia coordinates and going against the show transcript, Baton Rouge is actually slightly south of Tallahassee as well.mas3cf wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 6:30 am I guessed CA, but the NM/Mexico border is only 175 miles, so it was kind of an evil clue. Frustrating that both Tallahassee and Baton Rouge are on I-10 while Austin lies roughly 50 miles north of it.

Baton Rouge didn't even cross my mind on that one, I thought it was farther north than it is. Another data point for how nasty of a FJ that was....Golf wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 7:53 pmAccording to Wikipedia coordinates and going against the show transcript, Baton Rouge is actually slightly south of Tallahassee as well.mas3cf wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 6:30 am I guessed CA, but the NM/Mexico border is only 175 miles, so it was kind of an evil clue. I don't need Google to point out my errors!
I typed in "is austin tx farther south than tallahassee fl" and it replied with "Did you mean: is austin tx further south than tallahassee fl"
