Re: Friday, April 17, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Tyler left 2200 on the table at DD1.
Tyler had bad luck with DD2 as he went to the right place in WORLD CAPITALS after Xiaoke opened the round in POP CULTURE. Tyler picked $2000 when the DD was a box up. Nibir found it as the $2000 clue was a gimme for Amman's country and as the best on the buzzer, Nibir gained control.
Another 8 large (plus change) and the the championship was really over for sure.
The contest for second place could have gone either way with Tyler & Xiaoke close yet Xiaoke did not go for nearly enough in the FJ! round to try to get it.
Nibir looked nothing like "da man" in his QF game while his last three games indicated he clearly belongs in the ToC.
The FJ! clue caught me in a blind spot as I could not figure out what to do with the clue other than knowing not to write Robin Hood or King Arthur (the game even had a Knights of the Round Table clue to steer one away). I knew not to write someone from England though was stumped for who to write and had the dreaded blank page.
The clue caught me in a black hole of knowledge in this particular case although it's not like I haven't given the correct guy's name in many previous clues over the years. A perfectly acceptable F2 FJ! round clue and a clear fail by me.
Back to regular play on Monday. Who will be at the champ's spot since it's easy to forget two weeks later?

When adding players to the archive I have skipped over "name pronounced like" since I either forget to do it or don't know how to break it down.
If someone can either post here or do a correction suggestion for Xiaoke then I can add it to her page.

Nibir was the only one who knew "quid pro quo", so for that he deserved to win and Tyler didn't.

Yesterday Mark posted:
Congrats to Nibir.
This is what happened to me. I got 6 right, then miss-hit-miss-miss to finish at 7/10.After getting the Tuesday FJ! clue correct I told myself I was guaranteed at least 70% for the tourney. That didn't mean I wanted to finish there. Grrr!
Congrats to Nibir.

Alex’s pronunciation of Roland told me it was a French dude but nothing came to me. Put down Napoleon just to not leave it blank.
Tyler not going big on DD1 was a trap door moment for me.

Re: Friday, April 17, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Is there a quid pro quo absolute?
They could have just ended that game after the first Daily Double in the double jeopardy round. Considering today's game as a single game, I was watching for the innominate situation* to appear as Tyler was struggling to get over 50% of need beer. It looked like Xioxie might have rung enough times to keep Tyler from doing that. But in the end Tyler got above 50%, not that it mattered.
* the innominate situation is when the third-placed player comes to life toward the end of Double Jeopardy and prevents the second-place player from getting above 50% of the leader.

I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.

Acceptable alternative answer for aggregate: congregating?

Ran Pets and Pluralize It.
All but Oregon in Inventors. That seemed like a clunker of a clue.
Can't say I've heard of the middle three shows in TV Theme Songs.
No guess on FJ! You could have spotted me "Charlem____" and I still would have missed it.

Unfortunately, Nibir tried to set Alex up for a Dhruv-like moment, but Alex didn't recognize it and trampled on Nibir's "You da man, Alex" response. Oh well.

A leopard in your dorm? No way, but why not the leopard variety of this lizard that can run across the ceiling
This correction suggestion came in:
*error. Leopard geckos lack lamellae, the plate-like structures other geckos have that allow these geckos to adhere to surfaces, including ceilings.
Would any animal people be so kind as to give me a thumbs up/thumbs down for that information? I can handle the formatting for ERRATUM if it goes that way.

I'd say it checks out as an error.

I was lucky and settled on the correct response at the last second on FJ. But it was mostly just a stab in the dark.
What was the hint I was missing?

Re: Friday, April 17, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
"Napoleon is always right". So it is written.
I was inspired to read the "Song of Roland" after it came up in that famous Agnes Scott-Princeton match (just as I now plan to read "The Tempest"). By the way, I claim descent from Charles Martel, though not Charlemagne. Admittedly, this claim requires a couple of leaps of faith.
I'm smart and I want respect.
