Non-Jeopardy! related poll
It was over 20 years ago when I first discovered that the majority of people were saying "thing" even though the original phrase uses "think". I still haven't gotten over it. Given contemporary usage even among the educated, I'm not willing to say "thing" is incorrect. But as long as "think" is also correct, that's the one I'm going with.

I am aware of "think". I would never use it.

Never heard 'think' used like that and would figure the usage is incorrect if anyone used it today; 'think' as a noun isn't seen often these days, afaik
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

“You have another think coming” has been in use for more than 150 years, and the use of “think” as a noun has been around for longer. Here’s a discussion: https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-a ... ing-coming

I agree with the Guardian writer below and with the blog comment he quotes. A "thing" should be more concrete than thought-
‘Another thing coming’ usually suggests to me that the author desires the ‘other thing’ coming to be a fist in an idiot’s face.”
My preference is for the nonviolent response...

Or maybe we should just give him free reign on this one. I mean, for all intensive purposes "thing" is correct in that phrase these days. But it's definitely peeked my curiosity to see how he'll respond. I'm waiting with baited breath.

That argument didn't help during the Great Literally War of 2013.cthulhu wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 7:42 pm “You have another think coming” has been in use for more than 150 years, and the use of “think” as a noun has been around for longer. And, as the piece states at the end:
English dictionaries play a perpetual game of catch-up. By the time they've recorded all the changes from the last generation the next one has made a whole new dog's breakfast to deal with.Another thing coming appears to have come about in American English several decades later, probably as a result of confusion regarding the original phrase. Another thing is the more recent turn of phrase and now is more common, though it is frequently criticized.

That very much depends on whether they’re being prescriptive or descriptive, as DFW most entertaingly pointed out in Tense PresentVolante wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 9:27 pmThat argument didn't help during the Great Literally War of 2013.cthulhu wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 7:42 pm “You have another think coming” has been in use for more than 150 years, and the use of “think” as a noun has been around for longer. Interesting. The one that gets under my skin is that the majority of people seem to thing...I mean think... "something doesn't jive" is correct usage rather than the proper "jibe."
