I wonder what the rule is if more than 6 contestants end their quarterfinal with a score of 0.

I suppose they would go to whoever had the highest score going into FJ. If we had a bunch of two player FJs, Ivory would rank ahead of anyone in the negative.

The 2003 ToC QF had exactly six $0 finishes, and two negatives. The two non-winners with positive scores went through, obviously, and the other wild cards had $9,000 and $7,600 before FJ. The ones who didn't make it through had dropped from $7,400, $6,400, $5,300, and $2,600.

Edit: Because $0 was Ivory's total before FJ, someone who lost it all in FJ would be ranked ahead of him. And because his pre-DJ total was also $0, someone who finished DJ with $0 but started with a positive total would also be ahead of him. To get a wild card, he needs six players to finish in the red. In the next four games.

Nice work. Thanks.

I'm rooting for Ivory, but I don't like those odds!

He would also finish ahead of someone who finished DJ with zero, but was negative heading into DJ.

What if five people finished in the red and another person finished both DJ and the first round with zero? How would they break the tie with Ivory?

Correct. If still tied going into Final Jeopardy!, then they go to whoever had the highest score going into Double Jeopardy!.

Sorry, Opus. but your dream of seeing Ivory next week has ended. So far, three of the four people in line for wild cards have left money on the table in FJ. Will that come back to bite them?

We now know two of the wild cards. If nobody tops $14,000 tomorrow, we will have all four from two games. Has that ever happened before?

I hate to ask because someone might know, but .... has anyone figured out which subject has the most success in Teachers Tournaments? Like a History teacher or an English teacher or Math?

For all the hand-wringing about who made a good wager vs who made a bad wager, so far, if we assume game 5 is a disaster, there's nobody on the list who ultimately made a wagering blunder in retrospect. Everyone who got their clue right either wagered enough to get in, or was sunk to begin with, and everyone who got their clue wrong was sunk even if they'd wagered nothing.

Thus, knowledge trumps wagering ability - at least so far. Not a result I personally expected. And that could change, especially between #2 and #3.

Many contestants win games with poor wagers. Many contestants lose games with good wagers. Of the four current WC's, three of them made wagers that were sub-optimal. The other three also wagered less than optimally.

It's expected, no hand-wringing. Just constantly disappointed that so many intelligent people choose not to study wagering theory when it's such an integral part of the game.

In my odd way, I'm glad Anne wagered as she did, because if she had gotten it right and made the semis, she would have cleared Lauren's all-in score, thereby saving her from regrets for holding back $1,199.

All four wildcards for the 2013 College Championship came from the first two quarterfinal games: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1331.
