This was the first of the three appearances by Regis.

Regis played again in 1998: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=2522

And again in 2006: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=1363

It’s a celebrity game. Things are going to be missed, there is going to be extra chatter, there are going to be clues not played and there will be weird wagers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8E7_u2qgjE

Again, didn't count how many I got right as many clues weren't played. This is probably how it is going to be all week.

RIP Regis but I cringed when you put Arkansas to the west of Georgia. Carol wasn’t any better with Texas.

It was fun to watch but I would rather have seen more Frank or Chuck type games. (Yes, I know they aren’t catering to geeks like us or trying to pad the archive).

It was going along swimmingly until Alex had to rib Regis, then off the rails everything went!

I should not have rung in on numismatist. I got as far as "numis..." then realized "...matics" wasn't going to cut it and summarily tripped over that third syllable for the next five seconds.

I feel like they didn't process "neighbor" and were just naming states west of Georgia.

Regis could have won this one, Carol's underwager notwithstanding, if he had just covered Donna. I'm glad he eventually got to win (and under circumstances that make four-fifths wagering strategy clear, to boot).

This episode reminded me of a couple things:

- the reasons why SNL parodied Celebrity Jeopardy!

- Regis was a dynamite TV personality (RIP)

"In Jeopardy!'s eighth season, 1992, we aired the first...."

Close, Alex's writers. Oh, so very close. But this episode, at least according to the database, is October...firmly in season 9. Unless, perhaps, they decided to air a week of repeats about 6-7 weeks into the season, and the shows originally aired, say, in the summer or spring of 1992, the tail end of season 8.

It's like they're putting in these bloopers to send us a message....

I was puzzling over why Donna Mills's movie would have aired on Tuesday in most of the country, but on Monday in Los Angeles and Seattle... but then I realized, no, it was this episode of "Jeopardy!" that aired on Monday in most of the country, but on Tuesday in Los Angeles and Seattle, pushed back a day by "Monday Night Football." (It's been long enough since that was an autumnal issue in L.A. that it didn't come to mind immediately.)

J! started in 1984 and tonight's game was 1992. 1992-1984=Season 8?

"at least according to the database" Ouch.

Hey, much appreciation for the work - I just know some of the dates have an "approximate" label on them, but I trust y'all. Really, I do. ;) Especially since almost every intro Alex has taped has had an oopsie, I'd be more than willing to stand by the archive and bet that it's a true season 9 episode.

I love Regis, and this episode had exactly what I expected - the endearing Regis befuddlement when it comes to gameplay. The "does this thing even WORK!?!?!", and then trying to click the buzzer during the Daily Double. He always seems ever so slightly out of control, as Dana Carvey would say.

He also said, "we've shot 115 celebrity shows", yet there have only been 114 Celebrity/Power Players episodes. Another mistake, or perhaps a hint that a game with celebs was taped but never aired?

The infamous Milton Berle episode is my guess.

RIP, Regis.

When Donna Mills was talking about her made-for-TV-movie about a President who has a secret love child with a member of the press (?), they chose that moment to put up a graphic stating that the episode aired on October 26, 1992. Was that to let viewers know that this was before Bill Clinton became President?

A quick Google isn't turning up anything. Care to elaborate? (Hopefully it's worth putting up with a quick dousing of herring breath.)

Was there a week with only four celebrity games?

In addition to a Power Players Week and the Celebrity Invitational, Season 14 had three themed celebrity games scattered seemingly at random among the regular episodes. Season 15 had six more of these theme nights; the first two aired as lead-ins to Boston Week and the ToC while the remaining four aired on consecutive Mondays in March and April. There was also a one-off celebrity episode just before the 2009 ToC and there were nine preliminary matches of the Million Dollar Celebrity Invitational the following season. All of the other celebrity games aired in blocks of five or ten episodes.

Obscure reference to the infamous Milton Berle episode of SNL.
