That was my issue. NASA + something striking earth = what else could it be but an asteroid? Made me not process "70%" at all.Linear Gnome wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 4:24 pm I guess my biggest beef is the use of the word "struck". Sure, in retrospect it's impossible for an asteroid or whatnot to have struck 70% of North America, but I don't see any purpose of having NASA plus the word "struck" in the clue other than to confuse the contestants. How about "affected"? Too straightforward?

ABC, despite probably knowing they pushed back all the games a day still played Wednesday's preview, spoiling the single player final.
Got Daytona not by knowing it, but by noticing the finish line was a black and white checkerboard pattern, not brick, and thus skipped over the first location that came to mind.

How could you not know Daytona is the biggest NASCAR race (Super Bowl of stock car racing) but know it isn't made of brick?Volante wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 10:34 pm ABC, despite probably knowing they pushed back all the games a day still played Wednesday's preview, spoiling the single player final.

Wrong John, but hardly subtle. Plus you knew that already.

On vacation this week and just now saw the game. I had been spoiled on what happened so Alex’s all in DD wasn’t a surprise.
Instaget FJ.
Kevin had 14,401 possible wagers. Only one wager would have been stupid and he didn’t choose that one.

Not quite getting what you are saying. That is exactly how many wagering options he had.

Thanks. Forgot about $69 and whatever that white supremacist number was.
It would suck for the player if that happened to be the MSB wager due to an oddball DD bet.

I hadn't known of this restriction. Would make for a neat FJ, though.

The problem is that any ad hoc rule change that works to your advantage also works to the disadvantage of the competition. It would be similar to landing on DD3 in the last clue and the smart move is to bet $0.

That wasn't an ad hoc rule, was it? That's been around since day 1, I thought.opusthepenguin wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 4:47 pmThe problem is that any ad hoc rule change that works to your advantage also works to the disadvantage of the competition. Not "any [ad hoc rule] change". "Any ad hoc [rule change]." It's not fair to make an ad hoc change to any rule, however recent the rule, if that change advantages any contestant at another contestant's expense.econgator wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 4:53 pmThat wasn't an ad hoc rule, was it? Re: Tuesday, October 13, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The question is "What IS the rule?" I imagine it's fairly broad - "Any wager deemed by the producers to be inappropriate will be nullified, and the contestant will be asked to rewager." SO, perhaps 69 is embarrassing EXCEPT when it's clearly the game theory optimal wager.opusthepenguin wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 5:00 pmNot "any [ad hoc rule] change". "Any ad hoc [rule change]." Heck, the rule might even include a clause allowing such wagers if it's necessary. Of course, the producers would also have the advantage of knowing the other two contestants' wagers and the actual outcome of the game. If it's possible that they could change 69 to either 68 or 70 and create the exact same win/loss scenario, the rules might grant them that ability.
There are only a handful of cases where you wouldn't be able to tinker behind the scenes:
1) The champion bets 69, and wins the game outright, giving him an actual amount of money that could only be reached with a 69 wager. In that case, give him an extra dollar to avoid embarassment.
2) Two players tie as a result of one (or more) players betting 69. I think it that case, you just let it go.
Any other case, you can know how the game would have ended up if the player HAD bet 69, and change the bet to either 70 or 68, and get the same outcome.
As a side note, is betting XX31 forbidden? If you get a DD wrong...look what happens.
