Maybe that's just business as usual in TV-land, but it strikes me as very disrespectful. The family hasn't even had time to have the funeral yet.cinemaniax7 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 4:07 pm Paywall story about George Stephanopoulos lobbying to become the new host of Jeopardy!

I agree. I wouldn’t have a problem with him as the host (he is no more partisan than Anderson Cooper) but this is just plain tacky.CailinGaoilge wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 5:34 pmMaybe that's just business as usual in TV-land, but it strikes me as very disrespectful. Also extremely unlikely. The man is on live television already 6 days a week, and in NY and DC, not LA.Bamaman wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 6:36 pmI agree. Any bets on whether or not this takes the place of J! until they find a new host?

No, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune is going to be an ABC network series. Jeopardy! and regular Wheel are syndicated.

Besides, lining up 3 celebrity per show for weeks wouldn't be easier than finding a host, who may have already been chosen.gameshowfandanny wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 10:00 pm No, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune is going to be an ABC network series. Jeopardy! and regular Wheel are syndicated.

Re: J! in the Media
As an archivist I would not want the new host to have too common of a first name (Sorry, Mike Richards fans) as archiving in such instances as host/contestant sharing a first name requires spelling out the last name in all cases for comments and misses by either person. A common first name along with the new host having an unfriendly to type last name would be no fun.cinemaniax7 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 2:20 pm ‘Jeopardy!’: Who Could Possibly Replace Alex Trebek?

Ha! What a great example for combination of reasonable host choice, common first name and no fun to type last name. I'm not sure that can be topped.cinemaniax7 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 2:43 pmHow would Ben Mankiewicz suit you?MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 2:27 pmAs an archivist I would not want the new host to have too common of a first name (Sorry, Mike Richards fans) as archiving in such instances as host/contestant sharing a first name requires spelling out the last name in all cases for comments and misses by either person. https://www.instagram.com/p/CHWqOb2FiZV ... 9afcu751ww - From October 5, 1984, just barely several weeks into the current Jeopardy! run, the Raleigh (NC) News and Observer had some harsh words for it:
“The new Jeopardy is a disgrace”
“[Trebek] used to host “High Rollers,” which should have been a tip off that the new Jeopardy would be a joke”
Alex proved those guys wrong.

Re: J! in the Media
You're right, but in fairness, GOAT was originally an ABC network series but was cut up and run as episodes 191-200 (along with two old episodes with Zoom updates to bookend it IIRC) to fill out the schedule this past summer. It's unlikely, but not impossible.gameshowfandanny wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 10:00 pm No, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune is going to be an ABC network series. Jeopardy! and regular Wheel are syndicated.
But I'm not sure Celebrity WoF would exactly work in place of J! - while the two shows are certainly siblings, nixing one for two weeks or so might tick off the J! fan base. And the timing is off - if they're announcing it now, it won't come until maybe right before Christmas at the earliest, and probably later. And the week after Christmas is exactly when new episodes will be needed - it would be too close to the original airing.
I also don't know the exact format of Celebrity Wheel. Most of the ABC game shows, with the exception of Millionaire to a degree, are created so they could theoretically be neatly chopped up into half hour segments if needed. But if they change up the format (three 20-minute games to get 9 celebs in, or one long 60-minute game), it may not be syndie friendly.

Re: J! in the Media
Celebrity Wheel is premiering on Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 8:00-9:00 PM Eastern, so it can't be replacing Jeopardy! because it's an hour, but I don't know whether it's a one-hour game, a two-game match like in Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time and Jeopardy!'s other tournaments, or if it's just two different games with three different celebrities in each one.talkingaway wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 4:11 pmYou're right, but in fairness, GOAT was originally an ABC network series but was cut up and run as episodes 191-200 (along with two old episodes with Zoom updates to bookend it IIRC) to fill out the schedule this past summer. Yeah, I used to regularly read Deeb's column in the Chicago Tribune, and pretty much lost all respect for him as far back as 1974.jlgarfield wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 4:10 pm https://twitter.com/darrenrovell/status ... 92288?s=19 - Here's another swing and a miss from TV columnist Gary Deeb, sometime before the show's premiere.

What's remarkable about this is that after 37 years people still announce that the show is being dumbed down, because (apparently they just noticed) it includes pop culture...jlgarfield wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 4:00 pm https://www.instagram.com/p/CHWqOb2FiZV ... 9afcu751ww - From October 5, 1984, just barely several weeks into the current Jeopardy! run, the Raleigh (NC) News and Observer had some harsh words for it:
