Alex opened with commenting that researchers verified $29,000 in winnings for Kate's mom and then teasing Kate that she needed double that because of current board values. Naturally that meant Kate was going to be done today.

Sometimes a contestant gives me (and plenty of others) a remind-alike if not look-alike for a famous person. Today John made me think the Board's own Kirk Nelson snuck back on the show.

The first segment went fast enough to allow for 16 clues. That Italian bread name I should know by now kept me from the opening perfecto.

With DD2 and DD3 hiding well (found on clue 26 & 29) Kate was always still in contention even with John taking names and numbers. John found all the DDs and netted +1600 going 2/3 on them. A little more betting nerve on DD1 and DD2 and John could have locked up the match before his miss on DD3 that kept Kate in play for the FJ! round.

The FJ! clue had 3/3 written all over it as even a guess was likely going to be right. Any possible wrong responses should have been eliminated by basic math and a general sense of where to place presidential terms.

When I saw the category and started to played the precall game I quickly stopped as I felt myself getting into memorials. Probably a lot things could come under either header. Hope no one guessed other J! favorites like the Statue of Liberty, Lincoln Memorial or Mt. Rushmore.

Last Friday Andrew won from the middle spot with a 25200 Coryat. After the Monday game he was done. We'll see if John has better luck from the champ's spot after a promising debut.

This November will be the first time since Season 1 that it's all regular play games and no special events in November unless something secret was filmed.

All done even though some knucklehead on Reddit was wondering where it was over an hour ago: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6866

Good show to end the week.

Archive playthrough:

Coryat $41,600 (50R, 1W)
DD 3/3
FJ

Blanked on John Mitchell, said "treason" for "espionage". From the stats, it looks like John is pretty solid. Would be fun to see someone go on a run.

:D :D :( on DDs. Had absolutely nothing for Forster
Don't know how I would've done in Celebrity Class, no pics. :|
Ran classic sitcoms :o
FJ: Do the math. Arthur is 1880's, over 100 years, WECIB.

For the yearbook pics:
$400: You either pick up on "The Office" or not as the pic probably makes no difference
$800: He's young and still immediately recognizable - count it as a get
$1200: She did enough famous stuff when she was young that if you are familiar with her you would get it
$1600: pic does not matter; the key stuff is in the clue's wording
$2000: picture lets you know it's a female and from there she's gettable off clue wording

On Google images I tried finding the pics and turned up $800, $1200 and $2000 with a search of the name and "high school" and/or "yearbook"
Could not find the other two.

It will be an 0/5 for Hammer.

I was kind of amazed Foster was valued that high. She was quite famous at that age and very recognizable.

No, Econgator, I didn't get Steve Carell.

Anagrams was tricky. I got to "integral" and "ladies" right away, but still couldn't unscramble them in time. I hate those "close but no cigar" misses.

Overthought Yankees/Mets for a 4/5 in 37.

That was an easy Sitcom category, but I still derped it up hard. Blanked on All in the Family and The Andy Griffith Show, thus causing me to clam on Gilligan's Island.

DJ! was unkind to me. Bagels in British Royal Residences, Crime & Punishment, A Novel Category, and Celebrity Class of 1980. However, I ran Inventors.

No guess on FJ! I had nothing better than "19th century" for Arthur, and not even Alex's postmortem helped me. I thought the Washington monument was wayyyyyyyyyyy newer.

John was very impressive, but others this week have been as well. The only thing I saw that he could improve upon is his penmanship. I don't know if anyone has a screenshot of his FJ response, but it was quite rough.

Simple math led to a simple FJ and my 2nd 5/5 in 3 weeks.

$400: I know Carell = The Office is a match I've had to make before, but it just didn't surface.
$800: "Immediately recognizable" my ass.
$1200-$2000 were all "I am vaguely aware that a person with this name exists, yet I couldn't tell you thing one about them".

Yet again, another case of me only half-knowing things.

Got Carrell and Kersee in yearbooks. I knew Coulter but couldn’t pull her name. No chance on the others.

After suffering through categories of shows I have never heard of I loved the one today for an easy run.

With a 4/4 week I was worried going into FJ. The category told me I had nothing to fear and the answer had me done before the music started.

I didn't think they'd say "monument" twice to ask for Washington Monument, so...the Minuteman statue (1874, as it turns out. And rendered as "Minute Man", though still pronounced as the unit of time).

I did run the yearbook pics cat from the archive. I hope I'd have done as well if I'd looked at the pictures, but maybe not.
I'm smart and I want respect.

Hooray - a layup for the FJ and my first Box of Glory in at least a year!

Twelvefootgirl got Tom Cruise from the photo. No help to me, they might as well have on a N95 mask. I did get Jackie Joyner from heptathlon.

I think "This is not Kirk" may be able to break the left podium jinx on Monday. Thanks for the eyeworm, Mark :). Go John!

Well played round today and an impressive performance by John. His DD wagering needed some work, though. Another WECIB FJ.

For me it was an ICBJAA (it could be just about anything).
