Re: Friday, January 8, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Alex opened with Merry Christmas and the J! round had CHRISTMAS MOVIES. The game followed next. The ending tribute? Well done and not to be missed.
A fitting coincidence for there to be a baseball clue in BROOKLYN '99 so soon after Tommy Lasorda's passing.
Yoshie gets the honor of the last contestant for chatting with Alex. She could have been the last champ of the Trebek era except an error on clue 28 that ended the DJ! round put Jim in the lead.
Alex was fine in this game and in no way on camera would it be easy to think this was the final one he hosted. It sucks that Alex had to go out seeing a crash & burn on DD3 followed up by ruling against Yoshie's not quite getting the dog name right.
The positive was both players solving the FJ! clue and a big pay day that Alex always liked.
DD3 was a miss for me also to fail to get the last Trebek DD right. Fortunately, I joined the players to quickly solve the FJ! clue as I did it on the definition alone and only needed the Greek as confirmation.
Jim got some local press this morning: https://datebook.sfchronicle.com/entert ... -a-warrior
The story has the taping date as the 27th to differ from other reports.

If Millionaire sticks around for another season what money level would it be:
Who was the last champion of the Alex Trebek era of Jeopardy!?
A: Jim Grant
B: Jim Gilligan
C: Jim Howell
D: Jim Summers
To me it would not work at all unless a "Bob Denver" hint was added.

No idea on Final.
My DVR cut out the first couple of Minutes. id like the intro to watch if possible.
Thanks for The Memories, Alex.

With a heavy heart....
Archive playthrough:
Coryat $47,200 (51R, 1W)
DD 3/3
FJ
Dog categories invariably whoop my behind. Matched Jim negging with 'retriever' for 'sporting.' Other than dogs, only missed the bottom clue in four categories.
After a rough FJ week, this one was right up my alley: science plus Greek root words.
No more Alex episodes, it still doesn't seem real.

I end the Alex era with no guess on FJ.
The closing montage was fun to see.
A bit sad Alex mentioning he owned more books than he had time to read.
I had a very empty feeling when it was over.

Re: Friday, January 8, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The champ ending with a whimper instead of a bang reminded me of Leslie Frates betting against Brad Rutter in one of the tournaments. If Leslie had gotten that bet right, we probably never would have seen Brad again.
Of course, the bet wouldn't have made any difference unless the champ was leading. So anything that she missed today could be blamed for her losing the game, including her mispronunciation on the clue that ended the round.
There was one clue today that mentioned something disgusting, and I feel like that detracted from Alex's Final Jeopardy.
The video tribute was very nice.

What clue was it? I just scanned the archive and didn’t see anything offensive.floridagator wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 7:01 pm The champ ending with a whimper instead of a bang reminded me of Leslie Frates betting against Brad Rutter in one of the tournaments. I didn't get as emotional as I thought I might. I guess I got most of my sad out of the way in November. But that was a great tribute video that got me in the feels.
Alex's first clue was about rats. His last in regular play was about dogs. That's a major upgrade.

I think the middle contestant said Gays instead of Gaye.

I went with "isomer" for Final. Turns out it's from the Greek for equal + share.
