Wouldn't she have been a princess at some point before becoming a queen, even if it wasn't during the course of the movies?BrigadierSolo13 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 12:18 amYeah, that correction is correct, she was a Queen from the beginning.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 12:10 am Nothing to do with today's game, but a correction came in today, so I'll put it here to get the right eyeballs on it since the game predates the board.
From the 4/4/11 game AYE, "PAD" $600:
Princess Amidala, to her friends
Erratum: Padme Amidala was a queen in "The Phantom Menace" and a senator in "Attack Of The Clones" and "Revenge Of The Sith", never a princess.
This is way beyond anything I know or care about. Opinions for accepting/rejecting the suggestion, please.
As a cruciverbalist, I hate Sealy and Serta because they're always clued the same way, and even if you get the first two letters, you don't know which one it is.
Mayim's doing a great job so far in my book.

Star Wars canon is so much more than just the movies, there are so many official novelizations it’s crazy.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 12:10 am Nothing to do with today's game, but a correction came in today, so I'll put it here to get the right eyeballs on it since the game predates the board.

Amidala was elected Queen and served a term, she was not part of a royal family therefore not necessarily a princess before becoming queen.
However, she was mayor of a city called Theed before being elected queen and that position’s official title was Princess of Theed. So at one small point in her life she would have been referred to as Princess Amidala.
The above paragraph is based on a Star Wars fandom page with tons of additional information about Amidala. I did not confirm with another source or novelizations.
I think the Jeopardy clue is pretty ignorantly penned, but apparently technically is not in error. I believe a note of some sort should be added.

Knowing that the arch was built as a monument to western expansion and has a museum underneath that is basically devoted to Lewis and Clark's journey got me there.davey wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 3:27 amOr he remembered Meet Me in St. Louis. Pretty rough game. Glad Toni Morrison didn't cost a win given the FJ solve.
There was enough clue history here to get to the solve, although I understand why the J-Galapagos connection may have loomed large in players' minds.

Is this the first time a (non-Jeopardy!-related) product was advertised by the host as spokesperson during a first-run show?
I can remember Alex advertising DriveTime, but that was at least J!-adjacent. And I don't think Colonial Penn ads ever aired during first-run programming.

There I thought I was all alone in being aggravated by this recent linguistic atrocity. (And yes, I was also rooting for Robin for the same reason.)Category 13 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 1:53 am It's always refreshing to hear a contestant start their chit chat time without using the word 'So' at the begining of the first sentence. For that, I was rooting for Robin.

I love the limerick about this subject (and wish I could claim it as my own):This Is Kirk! wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 4:57 pmI'd never heard of that or "one swallow does not make a summer" (which seems like a good candidate for a "that's what he said!" quip).
One robin does not a springtime make,
One swallow no summer at all.
But one claim you can make
Without fear of mistake:
One lark has brought many a fall.

I'm more used to "one swallow doesn't make a spring", but apparently the summer version goes back to ancient Greece, before spring was recognized as a season in its own right. This Is Kirk! wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 4:57 pmI'd never heard of that or "one swallow does not make a summer" (which seems like a good candidate for a "that's what he said!" quip).
Never heard of frog hair either fine or otherwise.

Each area has its own seasonal visitor. San Juan Capistrano (IIRC, Southern California) is visited by the swallows each summer.
Good folks everywhere are visited by the robins at the start of spring.
And good old Hinckley OH (suburban Cleveland) is visited by the buzzards each year right around March 15. No kidding.
