Tyler cleaned up on FOUL PLAY in knowing sports distances while later MUSICAL TOURING COMPANIES did not seem to be one for him.

Tyler sole solving the FJ! clue took care of the "What If" game when it came to Emily leaving money on the table playing DDs and Wren missing the last one which could have changed the scenarios entering the FJ! round.

It was a clean & clear victory for Tyler to end the week with a threepeat.

The FJ! clue was one I could solve and it does not matter about adding a "The" or not fussing with an apostrophe. I knew the opening lyrics and was close enough on the title. Golly & shazam watching TV can help sometimes as I knew it more that way than a side method of my dad having served in the Navy. Perhaps I can credit Sousa/Webb since I've seen the movie more than once although I guess that could have steered me wrong to "Semper Fidelis" as the slow version needing to be jazzed up is always a fun scene.

Good FJ! clue even with it only going 1/3.

My precalls were more along the lines of presidential campaign songs expecting an FDR or HST clue.

As far as my limited research tells me, it would not have been accepted.

The history of the melody is an interesting one; it is undoubtedly cribbed from the mid-19th century Parisian opera Geneviève de Brabant (specifically, the song "Gendarmes' Duet"), which may in turn have cribbed it from an old Spanish folk song that must be now lost to time.

1805 battle + North Africa = Tripoli, which leads directly to the Marine Corps Hymn.

A good set of boards to end the week.
:D :D :D on DDs.
Runs:. Skyscrapers, Pre-US Presidents
Trash:. Madison, John Quincy Adams, Urbervilles, pampas DD, Van Allen for 6200.

Having literally never seen Tripoli in any other context besides the Marines' Hymn, I thought it was made up to fit the rhyme.

I said Marine Hymn, which I assume would be close enough.

Kudos to Mayim for smoothly negging the "John Adams" response. There are usually a few people who think a response of "John Adams" should require a BMS when correct; as exemplified today, the "ground rules" of J! say that "John Adams" connotes "not John Quincy Adams", so there is no need for further clarification when "John Adams" is the desired response.

Now, musical theatre is one of my wheelhouse categories, and I've seen Wicked several times. However, I reflexively responded The Wizard of Oz, in which I happened to play in a pit orchestra early in 2020. Wikipedia tells me that the musical version has toured. Do I get my money back after the commercial break?

I couldn't think of the name of the Marines' Hymn so I said Anchors Aweigh.

I didn't know the official name so I went with "What is the Marine Corps Anthem?"

Also, I'd like to see a poll on the pronunciation of "bowie knife" as "BOO-ee" vs "BOH-ee." I say BOO-ee but I've heard it pronounced both ways.

That would be my guess, too. You might get away with "the service song of the Marine Corps", but that's probably too vague, as they're asking for a title.
