Re: Monday, November 8, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The closing card:
Johnny: And now... hosting Jeopardy!-- Ken Jennings
Ken had a number of host add-ons and was more than ready for another go-around at the host's podium. Those on the pro side and those on the con side of Ken hosting again can pick their spots of people's exhibit A, B, etc.
For the FJ! clue I matched the players with last name only. I'm glad the show and clue did not require more as I would have had no idea what to add to make it a fuller response.
After DD2 (I'm sure the writers had no idea who was hosting today, right?) Dane led 23800 to 10400 to 3800. By the end of the DJ round Dane had shot himself in the foot more than once to allow Elena to move up enough to make the FJ! round matter.

The archive is down for maintenance, so the game being entered will be delayed by an undetermined length of time.

I was super curious about this episode! I remember Elena's book Animals Strike Curious Poses, and Kate is from my tape day. I found it amusing that there was an animal-related category and a Russian category in the same episode where Elena and Dane were competing.
I was surprised Dane wagered to tie Elena's doubled score, though. Haven't seen that in a while!

This game is a draw for the Weak Form of Shore's Conjecture. The second-place player bet "small." --Bob

Is there a reason i should know who John Mercer Langston is? "John mercer langston" site:J-archive.com indicates that he has never come up before.
How in the name of crap was this a triple get?!

You don’t really need to know who John Mercer Langston is, just a famous black poet with a first name that could be a last name. Know of any with the first name Langston?TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 6:42 pm Is there a reason i should know who John Mercer Langston is? I am quickly reminded just how naturally this comes to Ken.
I can pretty much only name one black, male poet, so that makes it pretty easy.

Historically easy Final.
Re: Monday, November 8, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
"Langston" could be a first, middle, last, or nickname for all I know. I'm super super vaguely aware that there is someone named Langston Hughes, but couldn't tell you thing freaking one about him. SO many freaking hoops to jump through it's insane.
So they'll take this, yet they BMS just "Carson" on asking for the person the capital of Nevada is named after...

As a man with at least some knowledge of brassieres, would just "wire" have been acceptable for "underwire"? I also blurted out "entrustee" instead of "trustee", less sure I'd get credit for that one... at least I said Marseille instead of Marseillaise
Nothing to stop my FJ streak as "Who is Mr. Langston?" is good enough for 14 in a row.

Re: Monday, November 8, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I might have vaguely heard of John Mercer Langston but I certainly couldn’t have gotten it if that was the entire answer. But I am familiar with Langston Hughes and having a rough idea of when he lived made it very likely he could be a grandnephew of someone who was a Congressman right after the Civil War.
I have walked across the bridge to Cincinnati. Staying at a hotel in Kentucky on the river saved parking fees at a Reds game.
Odd intro to Ken, who didn’t thank Alex at the end. He seemed to be having a lot of fun today.

Not a fan of this FJ clue. It's apparently about a very obscure (though no doubt important) figure from American history, but essentially is just "who's that one African-American poet you know, and hey, doesn't his first name sound more like a last name?"
