Re: Thursday, November 18, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Taylor tried to make a game of it, but 0/2 on DDs left him with 3rd place money. That's nice of Ken to recognize the tough DDs missed while he would have solved them in his sleep at any point from June 2004 to today. While I got them as well in DD time as well it's easy to DD2 and/or DD3 as FJ! clues.
Amy was ready to defend the title in opening and closing well. Taylor's mini spurt in between only delayed the end result.
For the FJ! clue I kept things simple in naming the event without using Taylor's longer word or Amy's specification or pluralizing. It's good enough to check the box on Saturday.

Not sure what kind of cleaning up may be needed after that homophones category or working the *s correctly in the FJ! round.

Yup, as expected five correction suggestions already in for the homophones category. The show did display the correct responses as I archived them. It's only a matter of lowercase letters or upper?

Hammer:
Old war?
Peloponnesian
Trojan
Punic
Tunis is Tunisia. That leads to Carthage. From there the players gave it a shot with Amy hitting the target while Taylor worked too hard. If TJF is right about Bonnie going for Rome(an) then she was trying to get there.
You were not going to get this right and that's fine. How about I take a miss tomorrow and you get one of those animal name word origin ones?

Amy specified the 3rd Punic War. Was simply Punic War acceptable? Cuz that was my Hail Mary play.
I did not enjoy the homophones category.

I thought Ken sort of suggested Punic or Carthaginian War(s) would have been accepted. I went with Punic Wars.

TPH: when spotted Rome, N Africa (Tunis) and 2100 years, anyone like me who took World History in 7th grade should be able to pull the Punic Wars. If they also took Carthaginian Wars, you wouldn’t even have to recall the precise name. Shocking that it went 1/3.

Started with Punic Wars. Thought about deleting the S and adding Second up front. Decided against adding Second, but did delete the S. Wish we had positive confirmation that this would've been accepted. Not sure how to respond on the weekly poll.

To me, based on what was written and said for the FJ! round, all of these are correct and anyone definitely check the box in the poll for:opusthepenguin wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 9:01 pm Started with Punic Wars. Thanks for that. I was leaning that way, but it's always good to have independent confirmation before checking the box. The polls are still open if anyone wants to make a contrary argument.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 9:09 pmTo me, based on what was written and said for the FJ! round, all of these are correct and anyone definitely check the box in the poll for:opusthepenguin wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 9:01 pm Started with Punic Wars. I went with Punic Wars and just found this from the AP to validate the pluralization.

It's only when you don't think your host able to speak ad lib that you should consider tacking clunky jokes like "now there's an amendment LA can really get behind!" to clues. And perhaps not even then.
I'm smart and I want respect.

Re: Thursday, November 18, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Naturally I’m a fan of aggressive play when it’s warranted, but I feel Taylor’s TDD was a strategic error. Was barely behind in Coryat going into the first DD so was close to even on the buzzer.
The 3rd and 4th row clues were TS’s earlier in the round so it’s pretty clear it’s a weak category for everybody. And then go TDD on a bottom row clue? Wow.
The minimum $5 wager almost certainly shows the highest winning chances here.
