J! writers sure are in the Hive with another Beyoncé clue. I may have to remove a second sock to count the hits this season.

It was hard to tell if Amy was trying to ring in on Harrison, Tyler...

David was in first and right after that was the DD. 1000+1000 did no real damage to Amy's winning chances today while on another day that kind of thing could really matter.

I guess it was a random chance that David could not solve DD2 as I would expect players to get that clue closer to 66% of the time.

The FJ! clue had me precalling one American, Morse, and one Frenchman, Pasteur.

The FJ! clue had me write the correct name for working off brother and France (knew one city associated with him) to see how the quote fit and then letting the category scare me off him to switch to Pasteur for no good reasons. Amy missing it as well eases the pain a tiny bit. I hate it when the writers, category, clue in various combinations mess me up when I have the right information at hand.

No Monday problem for Amy trying to chase down James and his wins total.

On DD David wagered $4000 of a possible $5400. Had he answered correctly, going into FJ he would have had $12600 to Amy's $25800, short of having a chance. Had he wagered properly, all $5400, he would have had $14000 and actually still been in the game.

Had he answered correctly, would Amy have wagered more on DD3? Of course we'll never know, but from past games I tend to doubt she would have.

And for good measure Jenni tried her best to throw away $1000 in FJ. She'll probably never know which is fine. There will be countless others, because strateegery is apparently too complicated to think about while on stage.

Searching the archive for "van Gogh brother" returns 22 hits, 3 in FJ.

Amy keeps rolling and pissing off the closed minded, which is awesome.

I thought of him as well, even though he didn't really fit the "sadness" part of the clue. I also thought of Leoncavallo, thinking the "sadness" was a pointer to the "go see Pagliacci" meme. Honestly, I didn't know until today that the correct-response figure had a deathbed, given that he
cause of death
shot himself in the chest with a revolver. Guess he needed to work on his aim.

Surprised none of the three got this: France + 1890 + brother screams van Gogh.

I'd call Jesse Owens a "4-event" gold medalist while a "4-time"r would be someone like Al Oerter or Carl Lewis (who of course was both).

After some thought, I came up with Seaside Heights (evidently a "township" or a borough" of less than 3000) for affluent NJ suburb. Don't remember ever hearing of Short Hills. Wikipedia says it's the richest town in America, so maybe that's why. I did think of Leonia, NJ as another name to fill up a SUBURB-IA category.

R for "Ray" led me to Ray Bradbury. Thing is, they do sometimes include part of the answer in the clue like that.

Of the crucial DDs, I got apostrophe and missed fluke.
I'm smart and I want respect.

Van Gogh having a brother, or having anything to do with France, is news to me. Couldn't even WAG.

I happened to hear the Don McClean song “Vincent” on the radio today so he was fresh on my mind but it’s a quick get for me anyway. Really surprised it was a TS, especially since two of the players mentioned being lifelong fans of the show. Van Gogh’s mental illness and his brother are popular topics on the show. Granted, Ken had the answer in front of him but he seemed to know it as well.

Exactly. Late 19th C. + France + brother + sadness? I spent 25 sec trying to think of an alternative answer.

In December I went to a Van Gogh exhibit that displayed art he did while in an asylum in France in 1889. They talked at the end about his death the following year. Excellent exhibit if anyone's near Dallas this month.

I grew up a couple of towns away from Short Hills and found this an incredibly obscure question. No one would have any reason to have heard of Short Hills unless you lived in Northern NJ or knew someone from there. Not sure how it qualifies over any number of wealthy suburbs to be the richest, except it’s small and doesn’t have any poor people to pull down the averages.

I matched Amy with Dreyfus for FJ. An artist never occurred to me.

Instaget for me. Van Gogh's brother Theo is well known to me but they've had other FJs mentioning him too:

NHO here as well.

Note to archivists on this clue. I believe the word in the clue should be wealthy instead of wealth. And it appears the suburb is called Short Hills instead of Short Hill. Let's blame it on all the media clues.
