Re: Thursday, September 22, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
That was a nice follow-up to Martha's 1972 J! story from yesterday that her husband, unable to attend the taping, or see the airing from 1972, was able to be in the audience for the 2022 taping.
Martha surprised me when she did not know the pawn shop word that sounds like an animal as I expected to see her podium lights go on for that TS clue.
Michael played DD2 and DD3 in the best order for him in missing the first one and nailing the second one to gain the lead he needed to win on a triple hit FJ! clue, the second triget of the season.
I joined the players to solve the FJ! clue and my pen was down just before the music began. Let's hope we do not seen any posts here for someone half right on it in blanking on the the complete song title.

I presume everyone is familiar with the song, but for those who aren't... magical lyrics and I love those perfect fifth interval jumps on the vocals (e.g., starting at 00:42).
The song was not written by Henson, but by Paul Williams and Kenny Ascher, who wrote the rest of the original songs for the movie.
There's also a "Rainbow Connection Number" they could have asked about in the category of GRAPH THEORY.

How about someone who would never get this if you gave them all day? NHO the song. At least the writers were kind enough to let me know in advance that I would not get this.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 1:45 pm Let's hope we do not seen any posts here for someone half right on it in blanking on the the complete song title.

The movie co-stars an F. Bear.
Re: Thursday, September 22, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I think Martha intended to wager 9500 (not 10500) in order to have a low of 6100 which stays just ahead of Michael's standard cover wager on a miss. As played, she couldn't win on a RR or WW. So while she probably had a strategy, she didn't compensate for also covering a double up from Lynda. Multiple mistakes here. Max wager is obviously 9199.
Michael's logical minimum score after FJ is $5999 and Lynda could have beaten that with a double up. But she decided to leave 1000 on the table that is useless at game's end. If I had to guess, she thought she had zero chance to win so she made a wager that left her money on the table on a miss for only emotional reasons.
Some attempted strategy, some failed math, but in the end two wagers that extremely hampered any winning chances.

There are, however, eight studio albums' worth (plus 15 live albums and a bunch of compilations and whatnot) of songs by Rainbow.

Re: Thursday, September 22, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Could not remember the name Malala for some reason. But I was saved from defeat because a while back I decided to learn (and learn to spell) her last name. So I got it right with "Who is Yousafzai?"
Easy enough to put this FJ together since I've seen the movie a few times, listened to the soundtrack many (except for "Never Before and Never Again" which I always skip), and know all the words down to the last "la de da roo". But as a joke when it came time for Mrs Penguin and me to announce our guesses, I said "What is the Moving Right Along Bridge?" She laughed.
As a side note Rainbow Connection lost the Academy Award for Best Song to the pleasant but, to me, forgettable "It Goes Like It Goes" from Norma Rae.

Re: Thursday, September 22, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Michael gave Martha plenty of chances to hold onto the lead, with some bad guesses. Only the gutsy DD3 wager pulled it out for his door to victory.

Another of those overlapping coincidences with a Rainbow Connection hint and Kermit fill on today's 9/22 ep. of People Puzzler.

+1 NHO this song.
As soon as I saw the category, I said to myself, "Yep, this is a $0 bet."

Maybe it was a matter that comes up often here, that not everyone says those words alike...I more or less do, but I still had trouble for a moment understanding what animal "hock" is supposed to sound alike.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 1:45 pm

I've never been much for Muppet mania - I listened to an interview with Nathan Lane recently, he was asked his favorite Muppet, he seemed annoyed by the question's triviality, and I sympathized - but I certainly appreciate The Rainbow Connection!...(And am a little surprised that anyone could have avoided it in all these years...)
