Interesting that there was a clue about Beck the day after he died. I call hubris on the answer with the complete name of the Statue of Liberty. That was fairly bold insofar as it's hard to know who on the judging team, besides Ken, would even know that fact. At the very least, it could lead to the game being stopped and the caller losing his rhythm.

Golf wrote: Thu Jan 12, 2023 3:31 pm I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but for the second day in a row there appears to be a misguided criticism regarding a perfect FJ wager.
John Boy wrote: Thu Jan 12, 2023 8:12 pm Not sure whose wager you are calling perfect. Yogesh's was certainly spot-on. Any criticism of Kyle's wager is also certainly spot-on.
jeff6286 wrote: Thu Jan 12, 2023 8:28 pm Kyle has to be right if he wants to win. By betting it all he can win $33,600. Or he could bet $2800 and maximize his chances at second-place and that all-important $1000. I know what I would do.
Well, just for fun, let's do the math.

The last 3 seasons of Jeopardy show the following FJ stats.

RRR - 12%
RRW - 14%
RWW - 16%
RWR - 12%
WRR - 9%
WRW - 11%
WWR - 7%
WWW - 21%

Note that due to rounding the above adds to 102%

If Kyle bets it all, he wins the WRR and WRW scenarios and receives $33600.
He finishes 2nd in the RRR and RRW scenarios.
He finishes 3rd in the other 4 scenarios.

33600(0.2) + 2000(0.26) + 1000(0.56) = $7800 average winnings.

If Kyle wagers $2800 to clip Yogesh by $1 he wins the WRR and WRW scenarios and receives $19600.
He finishes 2nd in the RRR, RRW, RWW, and WWW scenarios.
He finishes 3rd in the other 2 scenarios.

19600(0.2) + 2000(0.63) + 1000(0.19) = $5370 average winnings.

If Kyle wagers the max $7200 to force Kristina to answer FJ correctly to pass him he receives $24000 on a win.
All scenarios remain the same.

24000(0.2) + 2000(0.63) + 1000(0.19) = $6250 average winnings.

Kyle averages $7800 wagering everything.
Kyle averages $6250 wagering $7200.
Kyle averages $5370 wagering $2800.

The fact that wagering everything wins so much more the 20% of the time it happens trumps the extra $1000 gained by wagering to finish 2nd more often.

No. I only knew one Beck. I've never heard of the other guy. So... interesting there was a clue about the modern Beck the day after the classic Beck died. Perhaps tomorrow there will be a clue about some other Lisa Marie.

Yogesh had a nice show-off moment with giving the full name of the NY landmark which is not what the common J! player would say.
I thought this was a dick move. Not a fan of bat flips either. Rooting for Morbeedo to take him out tomorrow.
Honestly, the things that set people off will never make sense to me. This is a show about demonstrating knowledge, but apparently not too much knowledge? How is what Yogesh did any different than contestants answering in a foreign language, or providing a full name?

Yeah tbh that one wasn't really much of a show-off. Even La Gioconda wouldn't be that big a deal. Not even sure "Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1" would get there. "Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor" is closer, I suppose. What are some other things in this category?

Eh, but that one, the common name is sheer truncation. Ditto with On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life.

More than one contestant has gotten tripped up by that one. It's a Fool's answer.

February 25, 1998, according to The Jeopardy! Fan, at least in regular-play.
So first episode in my entire lifetime that had 61 correct. Was born March 26, 1998.
