Think Different 478: The Return (final results)

Post by Ironhorse »

I thought it would be appropriate to have another TD in light of threearruda's run on the show.

You all know the drill; don't cheat, etc.

Entries will close no earlier than Monday, February 13 at 7 PM EST.

Submit your answers via PM or here: https://forms.gle/3to4p1V7yXt9XX2q6

You may drop one question, and sheep one question for the highest score on that question.

Incorrect answers are the value of the sheep plus 2 points.

Any entries with no drops, sheeps or incorrect answers will get a -4 bonus.

For question 1, letters are preferred; please give the letter corresponding to which question you are answering. A correct answer without the letter will get a 2 point penalty.

Question 1 (Letters preferred; please provide the letter of which question you are answering): State Capitals

Identify one of the US state capitals as described here.

A. In 2020, over 25,000 signed a petition to rename this city Flavortown in honor of native Guy Fieri.
B. This is the largest US city without a big 4 (MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA) sports team, though as of 2021, it does have an MLS team.
C. The reigning Jeopardy! champion that Matt Amodio defeated in his first game of regular play was introduced as a traffic engineer from this city.
D. According to a local public radio station, there are 71 streets with a variation of “Peachtree” in its name here.
E. Joni Mitchell was inspired to write “Big Yellow Taxi” by a visit to this city’s state, and referenced the Foster Botanical Garden in the city as a “tree museum” that charges money.
F. This city is named after a man who is believed to have been born in modern day Turkey over 20 centuries ago.
G. This city has two airports named after men who died in a 1935 plane crash in Alaska.
H. Mark Twain wrote some of his most famous works in this city, including Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
I. This is the largest state capital named after a US President (hint: the President served later than 1817).

Clarification: The wording of Question 7 was intended to limit answers to quarterbacks that played this season, as opposed to quarterbacks who played for that team in the past. (I did anticipate this as a possibility and tried to exclude the possibility in the wording, but reworded it to make it more explicit.)

(I'll go ahead and accept the one answer I already received before I reworded it, but moving forward, all answers need to be of current quarterbacks.)

Based on the size of the entrant pool for this one, I think one can say the TDs have been missed.

Re: Think Different 478: The Return (ENTRIES CLOSED)

Post by Ironhorse »

Thank you to all 27 of you for entering! Based on the strong turnout, I definitely foresee myself continuing to host after this. As this was my first one in nearly two years, there were a couple hiccups, I think, and I apologize for them and expect next time to go better.

1. Capital CIties

A. In 2020, over 25,000 signed a petition to rename this city Flavortown in honor of native Guy Fieri. Columbus, OH
B. This is the largest US city without a big 4 (MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA) sports team, though as of 2021, it does have an MLS team. Austin, TX
C. The reigning Jeopardy! champion that Matt Amodio defeated in his first game of regular play was introduced as a traffic engineer from this city. Boise, ID
D. According to a local public radio station, there are 71 streets with a variation of “Peachtree” in its name here. Atlanta, GA
E. Joni Mitchell was inspired to write “Big Yellow Taxi” by a visit to this city’s state, and referenced the Foster Botanical Garden in the city as a “tree museum” that charges money. Honolulu, HI
F. This city is named after a man who is believed to have been born in modern day Turkey over 20 centuries ago. St. Paul, MN
G. This city has two airports named after men who died in a 1935 plane crash in Alaska. Oklahoma City, OK
H. Mark Twain wrote some of his most famous works in this city, including Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Hartford, CT
I. This is the largest state capital named after a US President (hint: the President served later than 1817). Lincoln, NE

The sheep can be found where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain. The 1817 mention on option I was intended to ward off guesses of Madison.

Oklahoma City - 6 (SHEEP)
DBear, MarkBarrett, gamawire, Shaquebanisa, Sherm, squarekara

Austin - 5
Waterloo_guy, Anachronism, Ouachiouat, clprez, Plactus

Boise - 1 (singleton!)
threearruda

DBear, econgator

Bernese Mountain Dog - 2
marcowitz, squarekara

No one said Jacqueline Bouvier? Maybe they were scared off by the previous question.
