Dinah's Family Restaurant... anyone go there?
OMG... on July 14th's episode of "Master Chef," they're conducting a team challenge at Dinah's Family Diner, close by to the Doubletree Hilton where I stayed during my "Jeopardy!" tapings. I had a nice meal there one night while waiting to go the Sony studio the next day.
What a delight to see it again!

Is the Doubletree Hilton the one that TPTB gets the contestants cheaper rates on? (If not, how did you get to the studios?)BADuBois wrote:OMG... on July 14th's episode of "Master Chef," they're conducting a team challenge at Dinah's Family Diner, close by to the Doubletree Hilton where I stayed during my "Jeopardy!" tapings. Yes. It is also the hotel where TPTB conducts auditions in Los Angeles. At least it was when I auditioned in 2013. I ate at Dinah's on my way home from the audition, but not when I went to LA for the taping.dhkendall wrote: Is the Doubletree Hilton the one that TPTB gets the contestants cheaper rates on? I went to college at Loyola Marymount, so Dinah's was a regular hangout. Dh and I used to go there, too, after we got married, so we had to have dinner there when I was taping the show so our son could have the Dinah's experience.

Yes, that's the hotel where you get the Sony rate, and where they have a mini-bus to take you to the studio in the morning.dhkendall wrote:Is the Doubletree Hilton the one that TPTB gets the contestants cheaper rates on? But when you're done at the studio, you're on your own for returning to your hotel. They call a cab for you if you want to leave right there and then... or you could stick around and watch the tapings from the studio audience.

I'll bet they get sick of "someone's in the kitchen" jokes!

Dinah's was already an L.A. institution when I moved here in 1980.

I went to LMU! My younger sister did too. (So did my older sister, but for less than two years.) My parents met there, class of 1979.ElendilPickle wrote:I went to college at Loyola Marymount, so Dinah's was a regular hangout. Edit: on topic, I last ate at Dinah's in 2004; some people from the LMU choruses went there after singing the Olympic Hymn on the beach for the torch coming ashore. I got the chicken and waffles. The only other time I recall eating there was more than ten years before that, and the main thing I remember about it was that I had a headache from too much video game playing, but it was gone by the end of the meal. Two positive dining experiences for me.

I'm starting to watch MasterChef now on delay since that Home Run Derby was ridiculous running until almost 9:00
Would Arthur would easily be replaced as Jeopardy! villain if Courtney, Leslie or Ahran went on the show and had a double-digit episode run?
On the other hand Francis would be a great J! contestant if he could pass the test.

I'd add Cutter to the list. He was pretty nasty last night.MarkBarrett wrote: Would Arthur would easily be replaced as Jeopardy! villain if Courtney, Leslie or Ahran went on the show and had a double-digit episode run?

Can you get a croquembouche at Dinah's? Tonight's pressure test was something else. A month and half later:lisa0012 wrote:I'd add Cutter to the list. My husband and I met in the LMU choruses in 1980 during the spring tour.

I don't mind most of them, really. Except Cutter. Leslie can be a brat but he's getting better. Courtney never bothered me.MarkBarrett wrote:Can you get a croquembouche at Dinah's? Having said that, go team Elizabeth!
Re: Dinah's Family Restaurant... anyone go there?
That's really cool! Dinah's Family Diner sounds like a great place to eat. It's always nice to see a familiar place on TV. I'm sure it was a fun experience for you to watch it, knowing that you had been there before. I'm sure that the contestants will have a great time, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the challenge turns out!BADuBois wrote: ↑Mon Jul 14, 2014 8:05 pm OMG... on July 14th's episode of "Master Chef," they're conducting a team challenge at Dinah's Family Diner, close by to the Doubletree Hilton where I stayed during my "Jeopardy!" tapings. I missed using chopsticks when eating so it was really a treat. I had a nice meal there one night while waiting to go the Sony studio the next day.
