The current ToC field is 5 players (21-13-6-5-Celeb) and the hosts were clear that the Celeb J! winner will not be taking a spot over anyone who deserves one.
6 once HSRT concludes.. and maybe it wasn't the point of the discussion but I found it interesting that the 4x champs weren't mentioned. I have ideas but will be curious to see what they decide to do format-wise.

Sarah said Brad from the GOAT is the only one. Nope. Hans from 2020 College B was minus 6000 after day one for one other case I can recall.

2/27/23 "What are the HSRT Quarterfinals?" (22:59)

Sarah & Buzzy host and first discuss the recent rough weather in So Cal. Buzzy learned term of graupel from upcoming show he's hosting, Einstein Challenge.

The High School Reunion Tournament will end with 2DTPA (2-day total point affair) and $100K for the winner and spot in the ToC.

Sarah and Buzzy like the opening with a dissolve shot of teens into what they look like now as recent adults.

Hosting schedule is Ken returns on March 10 and will host games through April 28. Mayim returns on May 1 and will host through the summer. The hosts did not specify that they meant the rest of Season 39 although I suspect that is what they meant.

4:25 recap of 2/20 week of HSRT QF games 1-5:
Spoiler
The John Green clues were filmed in Cleveland. Buzzy seems to know that from a staffer that there will be more John Green clues. There was a mention of possibly getting John and his brother Hank to do Celeb J! and no official notification yet that a second season is even happening.

The hosts make note of Avi Gupta from the Tuesday game having raised over $200K for a pancreatic cancer fund.

Jack Izzo also from the Tuesday game kind of looked like a younger Buzzy.

The games were taped Jan. 29 so enough time to have the Lisa Marie clue.

Wed. Stephanie did the math and wanted to win by $2.

The Mahomes clue was timely with the Jan. 29 taping as that same day the Chiefs/Bengals AFC Championship game was going on as well as the Eagles/49ers with podcast producers each rooting for one team and they may have had a TV on in the background to keep track of the football game scores.

Justin from Thursday worked out his numbers for $823 wager for mom's birthday of August 23 and FJ! score ending with 223 for air date of Feb. 23.

Ryan Presler went from alternate (8th grade in S35 to high school senior in S3) to player when Rotimi was not able to play. It's been reported elsewhere it was a positive COVID test result, but the hosts did not give the reason on the podcast.

Emma, the other one not available (overseas classes) and Rotimi will appear at some later time someway, somehow.

Buzzy called Jackson an aggressive buzzer player with 10R 5W in one of his rounds.
Buzzy likes calling the HSRT the Quarter Quell (from The Hunger Games while Sarah is not even sure there will be another one of this kind of tournament.

16:45 Questions - MattHanson1990 from Reddit asks why there was not the typical music change for this tournament. Because it's not a TT or a CC the J! powers did not want to brand it as such with the different music that is typically used for those events.

Doug wants to know what would happen if both players with the name Audrey made the finals.

The hosts joked about Mayim could point to the one that rang in and in regular play they try not to have two with same name in a day's taping pool, but another Ken and another James did occur during the Jennings and Holzhauer runs. Players with name conflict will be invited to come back later.

For finals Buzzy reminded us that his real first name is Austin and he played Austin Rogers in finals. The hosts did not bring up previous examples of name conflict in finals such as 1996 ToC with Mike/Michael or 2008 TT with 2 Rachels.

Next Week: QF games 6-9 and Semis 1

I wonder why. He's not a figure associated with Cleveland. As far as I know, he lives in Indy, the city of his birth, and once worked in Chicago. He went to Kenyon, which is in Ohio, but not particularly close to Cleveland. Sarah said he "does a lot of his podcasts" here. His podcasts are through WNYC Studios, which is not associated with Cleveland. I'd love to get to the bottom of why he would travel to Cleveland to podcast, and where he records from.

3/6/23 "Who Are the HSRT Semifinalists?" (27:44)

Sarah and Buzzy host and talk over four minutes about Disneyland and how Buzzy pronounced graupel last week. He checked with judges Michele & Billy and Buzzy's way of saying the word was acceptable although Buzzy heard from a Chris about proper way to say the word with a short O.

Sarah confirmed the host scheduled (once again) that Ken returns on March 10 and will host through April 28. Mayim hosts on May 1 and this time Sarah specifically said "through the rest of the season".

4:35 the 2/27 week of the HSRT:
Spoiler
The Daniel Radcliffe category was taped in Toronto when he was doing stuff to promote the "Weird Al" movie and Sarah said the category was well-received not just by Rhea, who was so excited about it, but the studio audience as well.

Shortly before Rohan's $5 wager on the DD the contestants had been reminded that $5 was the minimum wager.

J! heard from Josh (former celeb player) Gad about being a $1600 clue, but Josh did not make it clear if he thought he should have been a $2000 clue or an easier amount since he's so well-known.

Anish wrote [sic] Lebron James because he's the greatest player and did not know the correct response. Sarah was familiar with "Boola boola" that Lucas added to his response because J! did a taping at Yale.

Dan said he had a celeb crush on Mayim and instead of it being from Blossom like Sarah & Buzzy at first thought it was from Mayim being a scientist on BBT. That led to Buzzy saying he had a crush on character Six when he watched Blossom and Sarah brought up Joey Lawrence from that show.

Buzzy said he would have trouble playing on J! if another crush, Claire Danes, had hosted.

Eesha getting her FJ! clue right met one goal, but she did not play a DD in the hopes of getting one of those right.

IN THE SPORT stumped the players, but the hosts used James and Amy as examples of contestants who do know sports well.

From the chat on Thursday the hosts like learning that Caleb has play pub trivia with Teagan.

Maggie finished in the red and Sarah had a chance to talk to Maggie's mom at the after party. All of the recent adults were thrilled with the chance to come back and play J! again and the young folks had a great time all getting together after the taping.

Jackson got redemption against Avi this time after losing to him the first time they played in the Teen Tournament in a tiebreaker clue.

Tim had the most correct clues with 29 in the QF round and Jackson matched that number in the first semifinal.

Jackson made a wager of $1,220 to honor his mother's birthday of 12/20.

20:40 Sarah spoke to Jackson about his win in the semis and Jackson was happy not only to win, but to get his first runaway on J!
22:20 Questions - Steven asks if recent tournament competitors are sequestered with no wildcards. Everyone gets to watch the games and the matches are selected randomly. No sequestering.

For the HSRT Finals you see the contestants in the audience with red sweatshirts and no more mask requirement. (That seemed to be the case today as well although the civilians had masks on.)

Ryan asks if the music theme from GOAT will be used for The Masters and the answer is no. Bleeding Fingers is recording new music and Sarah has heard a first cut already.

Next week - HSRT semis and finals

3/13/23 "Who is the HSRT Champion?" (28:26)

Sarah, Michael D. and Buzzy host.

The 6 J! Masters are in L.A. to tape this week. Michael wants it to be an annual event.

Stephen Fry will host UK version of J!

HSRT talk at 3:10
Spoiler
chat with Justin at 4:05 and his plan for the finals was to keep calm. Justin was flabbergasted when he received notice about coming back for the HSRT and he enjoyed being able to meet the players from the other Teen Tournament in S35.

5:30 talk about SF3 and the hosts liked Caleb's DD wager in giving a nod to Sam Buttrey. Tim was 14R and 0W in J! round.

Maya was only to make finals of both her TT and HSRT. Sarah talks to her at 6:45 and Maya got notification about HSRT while in class and did not check it. Claire called her to tell her to check email. All the recent adults later called each other.

Maya's mom sat behind Sarah at taping and may have been more excited than Maya.

Michael sincerely apologized for the final score reveal error on Finals day one. They had Mayim redo the opening monologue and that led to the error in post-production. Protocols are in place to make sure it does not happen again. There is extra pressure on staff with all of the different versions going on.

A Reddit poll was seen that had 348 picks Jackson to win, 181 for Maya and 142 for Justin.
Michael still feels a 2DTPA is not the best way, but he did say the last ep. of The Masters will use that format.

Justin got standing ovation from the other HSRT players in the audience wearing their red sweatshirts. Chat with Justin at 15:00 who said quiz bowl helped him. Justin is 18 years old. Justin's dad has always had Justin keep up with the news. Justin will do his best in the ToC while aware he will be young for it.

Seeing everyone again was best part of the HSRT. Justin will be the first to play with Alex, Mayim and then Ken at the ToC.
17:30 no more HSRT spoiler talk and the HSRT was a placeholder with JNCC not happening this year because the network was not ready to commit to it and did Celeb J! and Masters instead. J! had to green light something.

Michael wants player development like in sports at high school and teen level. The future may have a flip flop of Teens one year and College tourney another year.

High school & college does not have players at full potential and there are still discussion behind the scenes about player eligibility. Michael wants the best players on the stage and supports open competition for everyone. Except Buzzy who is retired because he is "too inside".

21:20 talk about Friday regular play 3/10 game:
Spoiler
Stephen is at 3/4 runaway games. Stephen in post-game chat has no idea about how he's doing well with buzzer but did find better success not focusing on the lights.

If Stephen wins on 3/13 then that would be 9 officially on ToC tracker.
22:40 Questions - Sydney asks why person in third podium spot sometimes started a game with first pick.

It was a random draw each game.

A Michael in the UK, not Davies, wonders about an international tournement with UK J! starting.

There is a Swedish and German version and J! may go into other territories.

Michael can imagine a Ryder Cup with U.S. vs. UK and the UK would wear red coats.

Michael is expecting to do a live J! in NY on March 30th. (No added info to go with that)

Dear Gawd, will someone please rid us of Michael Davies before he runs amok and ruins the show?

I two extra post about previous episodes since I am new here and did not get a chance to post them when they were on. (1 particularly about the run the category idea) but this episode was too much and it probably had less than five minutes non-recap content.

I am starting to wonder about the producer's sanity. he has gone way down the rabbit hole. I think it was around the lines of 'this is not a game show in which we check for players.' and he apparently wants to make interschool leagues nationwide. granted I am pretty sick of watching every college championship have people just from Ivy league and not a mix of lower tier private or state/city colleges but he has left as he would call it 'outside the conservative voices' to some that reminds me of a comedy skit from holy moly season 3. (turning mini golf into a 'real sport' with Stephen Curry) maybe he should watch the skit and see how comedic he is acting. some of his ideas are ok but the way he said stuff actually makes it worse sometimes in the stuff he says. I am not even sure where to place him maybe he just need someone to review the things that come out of his mouth to make them sound coherent. I did like the jeopardy masters idea though and am excited to see that at least.

3/20 "What is
Spoiler
an 8-Day Jeopardy! Champion?"
(30:41)

Sarah and Buzzy host and talk about pens. Sarah likes a Uniball while Buzzy likes a Pilot G2. Podcast staffer Carlos gave Buzzy a Pilot Precise V5RT and Buzzy loves it.

When the The Masters were in town Buzzy was driving in Culver City and saw Mattea walking with a Philz coffee. Buzzy called out to them and Mattea with headphones in said hi and kept walking.

Buzzy was in audience for Masters and kept notes. Buzzy thinks the difficulty level for Masters is perfect.

The alternate for Masters was:
Spoiler
Cris Pannullo and if he had played (he did not -all 6 original invitees showed up and played) then he would have forfeited his spot in the ToC. Buzzy sat by Cris and he was silent.

A 10-year fan of of Cris was in the audience and ended up sitting by Cris. Buzzy arranged a photo without embarrassing the fan.
ToC alums in the audience for Masters included John Focht, Brian Chang and Jonathan Fisher. Buzzy dressed up in suit and tie and joked he was alternate for Ken.

The Masters will have some shows tweaks that have not been revealed yet.

March 30 is JeoparDAY! and there will be a live Inside Jeopardy! podcast to raise money for pancreatic cancer research through Stand Up 2 Cancer with tickets costing $19.64 for year 1964 J! began.

Also on JeoparDAY! $5.90 for 59th year of show will be donated to the charity for each person taking the Anytime Test - you can take it even if you took it in the past year.

Austin Rodgers is making a potent potable called The Daily Double and there will be some announcements during the show.

8:35 the 3/13 week of games:
Spoiler
The category triplet of BLOSSOM, THE BIG BANG THEORY and CALL ME "cAT" was intentional for Ken hosting and would not embarrass Mayim by doing that when she hosted.

Roy was mentioned for SCC with lead against Stephen and the big DD wagers. Sarah and Buzzy acknowledge the potential field for the SCC is massive.

March 14 game had a 30/30 J! round and appreciation for Long's big DD bet even though he missed it.

Buzzy talked about the importance of clue selection strategy for Stephen in the ToC.

Sarah was, of course, proud of the COMIC INFLUENCES category having clues by 5 Celeb J! alums.

Contestant Sarah from 3/16 was mentioned as possible for SCC with her big DD wagers.

Host Sarah was surprised only one player (Kelly the woman) got the Friday Equality State FJ! clue.

There is limited info about Stephen and DDs since he only played five of them.

Talk to Stephen at 18:00 and he was happy to meet first expectation of making it to first FJ! clue to play it. After Stephen won 3 games he then began to think about goals of ToC and $100,000 in winnings.

Stephen will use winnings for honeymoon not taken yet; he and wife bought a home built in 1968 and it needs some work on it. Stephen will be both fun and practical with his winnings.

Everybody at J! (staff and competitors) were friendly and supportive to make a great experience. The show is very organized.

For ToC Stephen will hit the books and study J! Archives like's he done previously. Stephen will learn the years states admitted to the Union.
21:25 A summing up of Stephen's numbers.
5/9 games a runaway; 3/9 solving FJ! clues; 5/27 finding DDs; 24R a game avg.
22:05 Questions - Sharon wonders after the chats how the host knows who has control? Light indicator is in lower corner of podium. If a host calls on the wrong contestant play will continue anyway unless the next clue is a DD.

Omar asks about a contestant being ruled incorrect and then later ruled correct. Omar wondered why contestant who rebounded correct response doesn't lose the money.

J! does not want to punish a contestant who got the correct response and will give money back to contestant who rebounded incorrectly if first contestant response turned out to be correct.

Buzzy was coffee p.a. during Masters and surprised Sarah with a coffee when she needed one between games. Buzzy even got a coffee for someone else in the audience. Buzzy joked he'll get a coffee for listeners and will send them a Starbucks card.

The costume contest from October was mentioned and the winner Claudine dressed up as Johnny Gilbert reading rap lyrics. Her prize was indeed the photo of Ken autographed by Buzzy.

Next week: The 3/20 week of games.

i am pretty sure that is rude to take someone else's pen (possibly permanently without giving back based on the way the statement was said.)
