THAT'S (NOT VERY) COLD, “J”

2: This country's “Three Holy Mountains” are Mount Tate, Mount Haku, and Mount Fuji.

4: In the Parable of the Good Samaritan, the traveler is journeying from this city, home to the highest peak in Israel, to Jericho, one of the country's lowest elevations.

6: The highest temperature recorded in this city since it became a state capital in 1959 was 90 degrees on July 7, 1975.

8: Nordjylland, the northernmost county on this Danish peninsula, is surprisingly warm compared to European regions of similar latitude.

10: This Smokey Mountain city, home to East Tennessee State University, was named for the President who lived in nearby Greeneville.

OPERATIC DEATHS

I have an e-mail address for the author of this category, but no user name. If this is you, please take a bow.

3. In this Mozart opera, the title character is dragged to hell by a talking statue.

6. This disease slowly claims the lives of the heroines of "La Traviata," and "La Boheme."

9. This Leoncavallo opera features fatal stabbings by a jealous clown.

12. Method of execution used in "Salome," "Turandot," and Handel's "Julius Caesar;" the proof is later displayed onstage.

15. Spoiler alert! In Wagner's Ring Cycle, this group of nymphs drags Hagen to a watery death and reclaims the ring.
