Yes, that's what he's most famous for.
Four archive hits reference his political career.

A while back, I was talking to someone who had worked for The Jerry Springer Show. She said it was just as disgusting as you could imagine, and quit as soon as she could. I distinctly remember her talking about lice.

I went to a taping of Jerry Springer's show in Chicago in September 1992 -- at that point, it was still a relatively serious affair, akin to "Donahue." I saw two shows with a lunch break in between, and when I was in the the men's room, Jerry came in and used the urinal next to me. I still count this as the closest I've ever been to a celebrity. (No, I don't know why he was using a public restroom -- I would have expected there to be separate restrooms for "talent.")

Jerry Springer died of the same thing that Alex Trebek (and Art Fleming) did.

New Yorker cartoonist Edward Koren at 87. He had a unique style that you'll recognize when you see it, even though there are no Archive hits. He was a professor at Brown when I was there, but I missed my opportunity.

One of the all-time great New Yorker cartoonists. About 30 years ago I contacted him, first as a big-time fan and second inquiring about purchasing the original art of a particular cartoon (below). He was quite gracious in his response, but that he did not sell the originals.

RIP Vida Blue. He was the last switch-hitter to be named AL MVP; that was with the Oakland A's in 1971, a year he also won the AL Cy Young Award (2 years before the DH came in).

Newton Minow, 97, Kennedy era FCC chairman who described television as a "vast wasteland." In retaliation, the creator of Gilligan's Island named the SS Minnow after him.

General Hospital cast member Jacklyn Zeman.

And although I never watched General Hospital, I became introduced to her when she was in ICS commercials in ‘97/‘98 during Nickelodeon commercial breaks. Then a few years later I would see her in a Wheel of Fortune celebrity week rerun on GSN (that originally aired in Nov ‘95).

Well that might explain why the Finale of Masters hasn't taped yet.

Based on the memorial gift request, I assume he was diabetic. Only a couple years older than me. Sad to hear.
