Hearing her name makes me flash back to my J! experience more than any other correct response from my games (yes, even more than Ben-Hur). RIP.

Re: 2023 RIP thread
James just picked up a get on her in the last Masters quarterfinal.
I attended the Rock Hall induction ceremony where she was inducted (again) a couple years ago; she did not appear in person and sent her acceptance by prerecorded video greeting. I understand she had been ill for some years.

Shoot, I had the oldies radio station on while gardening today, and they played "Proud Mary." I missed whether they announced her passing. RIP.

Singer and actor Ed Ames has died at 95.
Best known for the vocal group The Ames Brothers, playing Mingo in the TV series Daniel Boone and Chief Bromden in the Broadway play One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and a certain 1965 appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
7 archive hits, though none since 2000

I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

At 95, Ed Ames had been among the oldest living notable performers who charted on the pop/rock/easy/R&B, etc. charts.
Still around: Ray Anthony (101, "Theme From 'Peter Gunn'" + albums, 3 archive hits), Tony Bennett (96, a lot, a lot), Doc Severinsen (95, a lot, a lot).

With 2 Archive clue text hits, George Maharis, star of Route 66, at 94.
It's okay to raise your hand if you didn't know this was a real person, and not just a joke pseudonym of George Michael Bluth in Arrested Development.

Did not see that. So Carole King and Jeff Barry are the last ones standing from the three great pre-Beatles “Brill Building” (but don’t say that to Al KooperRandyG wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 4:25 pm Cynthia Weil, 82, who, along with her husband Barry Mann, wrote dozens of enduring song hits from the 1960s through the 90s, including "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" and "On Broadway."
