Rachel pretty clearly said "Commedia della arte" for DJ1 and I was worried she'd get smacked with a reversal. But either the judges didn't hear it that way or decided to treat it as a stutter. Or maybe it's permissible in Italian to expand the contraction?

My feeling about it is that the apostrophe is only there to elide consecutive a's, so pronouncing them both is okay if your glottis can handle it. My other feeling about it is that there are examples of apostrophes getting pronounced as schwas (I'm thinking mostly of Hebrew transliterations like b'nai), so I could give her that leeway too.

For the second, the apostrophe gets pronounced as a schwa because that's the vowel sound it represents in Hebrew transliteration. It's meant to be pronounced. I'm not sure the apostrophe in Italian works the same way.

I know it doesn't work that way in Italian; I'm just saying it works that way for something and I can accept her pronunciation on that basis. Kind of like the way I can deal with "Leopold and Leeb" being accepted for Leopold and Loeb, based on how oe is pronounced in some Greek-derived English words, even though "Loeb" itself is not Greek.

My least favorite kind of trivia is anything where you have to differentiate between Greek and Roman mythology, so I was glad to see both names accepted. I had them both, but it would have been a coin toss if I needed just one or the other.

I thought only of the Roman name. Helps to have a city by that name next door.

Also the least interesting Disney princess. (I called out Eos at home myself.)

Lead a 10-time champ going into FJ? Yeah, we will likely see Emily again. I keep saying this to myself with a lot of Ray’s competitors. He has faced some strong challengers.

Rachel had a 50/50 shot on one clue in rings of dragons but picked the wrong one allowing Emily to rebound. I thought we would have a new champion but Emily struggled in final jeopardy.
