Fun with GSN's "Split Second"

Post by MarkBarrett »

John Michael Higgins will be hosting Split Second debuting on GSN at 7:30 tonight and this thread is the place to mention J! alums appearing. Comments abut the trivia material and how the contestants do with the questions will come up as well.

A preview episode is on YT:
Spoiler
$1,000 for winning and $10,000 for the bonus round.

Questions with 3 answers and contestant can ring in to answer one part. 25 points if each contestant is right, 50 for 2 of the players being correct and 100 if only one person has a right answer.

Same game play in second round though with points doubled.

3rd round is countdown with whoever had highest score needing 4 answers to win. 2nd place needs 6 and 3rd place needs 8 right. Whoever rings in can give all 3 correct answers if they know them. A good player can end the game quickly while depending on buzzer work a big comeback is possible as well.

Bonus round is 60 seconds and player needs 7 right. A question is shown with two possible answers. The contestant can only name one or the other. There is no penalty such as backward step for a miss. There seems to be time for about 10 questions in the round.

The show is easy enough to play along with and it's not multiple choice. The questions are not difficult for someone with J! level knowledge, but you may run across a piece of pop culture that catches you.

John reads off a tablet and he holds it in weird ways that make my arm and wrist hurt just looking at him.

I remember the original version of this with Tom Kennedy as host. Was always a treat having days off from school and being able to watch the game shows airing on network TV back then. The original was very fast-paced, and then at the end, the display of 5 cars and the champion getting to pick 1 to see if it would start. If the champion won a second time, then the number of cars available was down to 4, and continued decreasing until on the fifth day, the champion won the car by default.

The ending on Tuesday was tough to watch. Kendall was one point away and said Shoes but was supposed to say Feet. Contestant Mark then took the win and ended up winning the $10k. Amazing how one slip could change the entire game.

Do not like that they had shoulder as the intended answer for Clavicle. Although part of the clavicle is in the shoulder, clavicle is collarbone. Scapula is shoulder blade.
