A substantial improvement over the previous episode. Mac and Rachel were credible contestants, and the taking the game seriously to screwing around ratio (TTGSTSAR) was much, much better.

Which led me to wonder ... do they give celebrities any kind of test to get a feel for how they will do? Or is it straight name recognition of some sort?

No test is given as far as I have ever heard. Who's brave enough to show up and guarantee some money for charity would be the standard. I'd love to know the list of no thank you as no doubt some turn down the opportunity.

Mack needs to play again and too bad there is not a spot for producer wildcard.

The writers nailed me in spots with a skunk in that office lingo, 2 missed DDs and only 1 in SAD SONGS along the way to paltry 67/90. Fortunately, the FJ! clue was a gimme to avoid what would be a dreaded missing one that all three got right.

Rachel has plenty of previous game show experience but this appearance seemed to have her shaking in her boots. Well done, to fight the nerves and play a great match. Glad to see the ep. did not end with a math error or chicken wager.

Forgot to mention one more thing. WTG to Mack for knowing Timbuktu's country. Thought for sure that was a not a chance in Hades get.

about the comment for Becky, I bet Ken knows a lot about contestants throwing stuff after hosting the Masters this year. (I think it was the same comment given from the episodes with the belt in the Second game interview or intro I cannot remember which) anyway we got some really good categories giving me a lots of laughs.

We don't have the buzz data granularized by clue, but I'm assuming what happened is that Rachel just outbuzzed Mack in the home stretch. Anyone who's seen the redlettermedia Junka videos and other YouTube channel guest appearances Mack does knows Mack is a highly competitive personality who takes games seriously.

I've seen some criticism of Mack's Final wager but I don't agree with it. The conventional two-thirds rule presupposes typical odds of getting Final right. When you're Mack playing Celeb J!, your odds of getting Final right are not 50-50, they're way closer to 100%. And same for Rachel, here; she was almost certain to also have a correct Final response. Under those conditions, forcing the leader to completely cover to win and not to make a math error was the right move--or at least not an objectively wrong move.

I have noticed we haven’t had an episode this season with three “duds”. There will be one who needs bonus bucks to make FJ but the other two will put up a decent effort.

So I suspect a short practice test or at least some evaluation of a player’s abilities is made.

Mac was the only one I’ve heard of to get to 7/21. I’m aware of the Debbie Downer sketch but had no idea who played her.
