Elizabeth: Yeah.
Alex: Like what?
Elizabeth: Like lunch boxes, uh, jewelry, a clock, a trash can, lots of different clothing items.
Alex: I was just about to ask you.
Elizabeth: Yes!
Alex: Do they have Wonder Woman clothing that would fit you, and have you ever worn it?
Elizabeth: Oh sure, I have several T-shirts, I have uh, a big buckle with a big WW on it.
Alex: I want the full costume, with the bracelets.
Elizabeth: Oh, Halloween! We just missed it.
Alex: Yeah. Okay. I bet you have a lot of fun with it.
Alex: John, good news for you. We should not have expected you to come up with the first name of Mayor Daley of Chicago. Theyre both named Richard. Chuck Daly, by the way, as you probably know was the basketball coach for the Detroit Pistons.
John: Yeah.
Alex: Were gonna give you back, uh, a correct response, so youre gonna pick up some money. Youre going to twenty-two hundred. Now, tell me about what you collect.
John: Um, I actually have a Transformer, thats been in my pocket every day for the past, 'bout nine years.
Alex: Whip it out.
John: Its right here. [Shows Alex the box]

John: I tried to make it TV ready, but they wouldnt let it in make-up.

Alex: Thats it?
John: Its been, its been in my pocket. Its a little beat up because
Alex: No, the box is beat up.
John: Ah, well heres heres the actual character. [Removes it from the box and shows it to Alex] It's right here. A little linty.

Alex: Okay. Fun going through uh, security at the airport.
John: Yeah.

Keith: Probably, uh, well, Im a chemist, so probably a chemical company, but uh, more along the lines of like a nanotech company.

Re: Thursday, November 1, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)
I like it when I can not only come up with FJ! via the "expected" method (as Alex mentioned, the Mormon prohibition on gambling) but also cofirm via other means (namely, the many casinos I've heard about on the Idaho and Nevada state lines set up for gambling-craving Utahans.) Now, can somoene explain tome the ban on gambling in Hawaii? (They must have it worse, as there's no bordering states to go to if they want to gamble)
Judges: is "truantism" acceptable for "absenteeism"?

Re: Thursday, November 1, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)
I am under the assumption that the campaign they were referring to has the goal of getting kids to go to school, not just to show up on time.dhkendall wrote:I like it when I can not only come up with FJ! via the "expected" method (as Alex mentioned, the Mormon prohibition on gambling) but also cofirm via other means (namely, the many casinos I've heard about on the Idaho and Nevada state lines set up for gambling-craving Utahans.) Judges: is "truantism" acceptable for "absenteeism"?
Edit: I was thinking of the challenger's answer, not yours. I have never seen the word truantism before, and I can barely find any references to it in online dictionaries. Absenteeism is the common education term for missing school for any reason.
My quick Google blames Hawaii's gambling ban on the influence of the missionaries that lived on the islands. It's apparently a big issue because of other cultural influences that value gambling (particularly the Chinese), and a lot of crime is blamed on issues related to illegal gambling. Also, so many Hawaiians travel to Nevada to get their gambling fix that they refer to the state as the "ninth Hawaiian island".
Great game, instaget FJ!, go superchamp go!

Keith fought off the Curse of Ken! That's how you know he's for real.
Kind of funny, then, that the correct response to FJ was Utah.

I just watched the show and I went truantism myself. I also am getting flagged by spell check as that not being a word.econgator wrote:"Truancy" is the term I am most familiar with, so I'd guess no.dhkendall wrote:Judges: is "truantism" acceptable for "absenteeism"?

How about this, Dr. J and Keith are split by only $27 with the same amount of wins. (Keith's $147,597 to Dr. J's $147,570)

Yeah, Truancy is the term and Absenteeism is the answer as I'm from NYC and have heard heaps of that about "celebs, Artists".
On fire, as I cruised through the first half.

Re: Thursday, November 1, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)
I didn't think it was a word (my spellchecker is flagging it too), but it's a last-ditch effort to try to see if there's a possibility it could be accepted.Roadgeek Adam wrote:I just watch the show and I went truantism myself. I also am getting flagged by spell check as that not being a word.econgator wrote:"Truancy" is the term I am most familiar with, so I'd guess no.dhkendall wrote:Judges: is "truantism" acceptable for "absenteeism"?
Like you, I made the "expected" connection on FJ.
I was thinking recently who would win in a TOC matchup against those two, it's a certainty they're both headed there, and a near certainty they'll meet eventually. They are, IMHO, the two front runners to win it all (I'm giving Stefanie the edge because a) she's a boardie, b) has a great personality (nothing against Keith's, but Stephanie's just beats his), and c) has much better stories (again, nothing against (most of) Keith's, but has he ever rode in a dryer? No? I didn't think so! QED.)Roadgeek Adam wrote:How about this, Dr. J and Keith are split by only $27 with the same amount of wins. (Keith's $147,597 to Dr. J's $147,570)

Got a third podium, any thoughts on who might get that?dhkendall wrote: I was thinking recently who would win in a TOC matchup against those two, it's a certainty they're both headed there, and a near certainty they'll meet eventually. No, I can't remember all the superchamps that have appeared since the last TOC. When the inevitable rankings post comes out, it may jog my memory and I may opine as to who gets the third one, but I usually don't play the rating game, due to my not wanting to be laughed out of the room and not being able to back up my laughable assertions.Roadgeek Adam wrote:Got a third podium, any thoughts on who might get that?dhkendall wrote: I was thinking recently who would win in a TOC matchup against those two, it's a certainty they're both headed there, and a near certainty they'll meet eventually. Heh I understand. Jason Keller, Joel Pool and Dave Leach just for the record.dhkendall wrote:No, I can't remember all the superchamps that have appeared since the last TOC. I said "asocial" for "antisocial." Acceptable?

I got FJ from guessing the most conservative state. I wasn't confident and was afraid that I might have been missing some obvious TOM. I hadn't heard about gambling and Utah in the news.
Keith has been impressive. Right now I'd say that it's a toss up between Keith, Jason Keller, and Dave Leach being the favorite for the next ToC.

This seemed a remarkably easy board tonight. I wish I'd been keeping track of my Coryat.

I believe the Transformer in John's pocket was a "Tiny Tins" version of W.A.R.S. (from the "Robots in Disguise" subline).
Utah was really the only thing that made sense in FJ.
Disappointed nobody knew "Walk Away Renee". One of my favorite songs from the 60s.

Not a good board for me. Gray Mayor and Will were both 0/5, ad I only got one each in Roger Corman, Inspired the Character, Education, and Cerebellum.
I had absolutely no guess for FJ! Hopped all around the map at random but never got to Utah. I honestly had no idea how to interpret this clue. It seemed a total "you know it or you don't" clue until the reveal.

That's Richard J. Daley to you. He's the father; Richard M. Daley is the son. Rich M. was younger when he left office, but if I recall correctly he actually racked up a few more days as mayor than Daley pere.
I will have to say, though, that that was one of the more badly researched clues they've had in recent years. Good thing they caught it before the game progressed too far.
I precalled Jack Nicholson for the Roger Corman category and was way disappointed the original "Little Shop" didn't come up.
Growing up in Idaho one of the main things I remember is that you couldn't even bet on horse races in Utah.
Keith is rolling forward very strongly, very quietly. You have to watch those quiet types.

I'd say "asocial" is a shade more acceptable, considering "antisocial" has technical meanings that go beyond "shy."NoName84 wrote:I said "asocial" for "antisocial." Acceptable?

Poo-tee-weet? So it goes.
