Re: 2013 Summer Hiatus Challenge -- Round 6, Day 4
IT GOES ALL THE WAY TO ELEVEN
Just like Christopher Guest's fingers in The Princess Bride. Thank you to (I think) TomKBaltimoreBoy for pointing that out.
2: Also used to determine coefficients in binomial expansions, his “triangle” can be used to calculate powers of 11.
4: Though Peter Cushing played a human character with the same name in two TV movies about Daleks (and thus doesn't count), Matt Smith is “officially” the eleventh actor to portray this character.
6: In this sport, a team's eleventh batter is typically one of its better bowlers rather than a strong hitter.
8: There are eleven sides on this country's one dollar coin, and eleven points on the national symbol on its flag.
10: The Wild Duck Cluster is the eleventh object listed in this astronomer's catalog, first published in 1771.
UNEASY LIES THE HEAD
(And on a couple of them I'll need more than just a first name. You'll see when you get there.)
3: The 1827 Delacroix painting The Execution of Marino Faliero shows the beheading of a doge of this city in the aftermath of a coup.
6: He was guillotined in 1793 after being captured when a farmer recognized his face from the currency.
9: This widow of a king of France who abdicated her own throne was ultimately executed for plotting to murder her cousin.
12: Born Metacomet, his head was mounted in a pike at Fort Plymouth in the aftermath of his “war,” a native uprising against white settlement in New England.
15: This first ruler in the Year of the Four Emperors showed his neck to his assassins and said “Strike if it be for the good of the Romans.”
