Like the beast, I even knew the type of rifle.
Spoiler
Like last week, I think this was a team-winnable game again, but they left too many easy ones hanging in the wind on the final chase. The Beast missed 3 and still caught them with 15s to spare. Though the team converted on 2 of 3, I don't think getting "ligament" would've been enough to salvage their bank.

What city has been the capital of India since 1931? The Beast said "Delhi, or New Delhi". Should they have given that to him? I know New Delhi is within Delhi, but New Delhi is the capital city, right? They've definitely established in the past on this show that they have to accept your first answer, so if you say "Washington--no, Lincoln", that's no good.

On this week's show, the first two players both earned the same amount of money in the first round. Yet the Beast offered the second guy more money to move closer to him. Any idea why?

My guess is he perceived a greater threat in the guy he offered more money to, and wanted to tempt him more strongly into giving up part of his head start.

His offers to the second and third players always seem to increase, so it may be a structure of the show that the later contestants have to face more temptation.

I feel like the higher offers are higher so far this season. It seemed like early on they were 2-3 times what the player earned; now they're more like 4-5 times as much.

They could be airing the shows out of order, and maybe lack of contestant wins will be occurring in the first taped episodes. Also, there are two shows from last season that still haven't aired, which they presumably will be in the upcoming weeks.

Given the "we take your first answer" rule, no that is not correct. New Delhi is in Delhi, but it's New Delhi that is legislated as the capital. You can't say that the capital of Vatican City is Rome, even though Vatican City (or whatever you regard as its capital) is in Rome.

Does anyone else not really like the Beast? It's not that I dislike him (which I think is the point with sarcastic British gameshow antagonists on American TV), but to me it seems I feel more annoyance than animosity towards him. I can't tell if that's what they're aiming for.

I'm sure I'm not the only person that keeps track of whether or not the Beast would catch me in a given chase. So I did a little googling, and found out The Beast placed 81st in the 2012 WQC, 5 spots behind Joon and 48 spots behind Roger Craig (with other J! notalbes in between). I find it ups my anxiety a few notches if I imagine one of them is doing the chasing.

I like The Beast. I think he's good entertainment, and he's eminently beatable, especially with Americancentric questions. Given who I know who's tried out and who's appeared on the show, they definitely seem to lean away from very strong contestants. I like the show, but I'd like it even more without the WWTBAM melodramatic touches. In fact, it would be more fun as a half-hour show.

I would swear the Beast said

I listened a couple of times more and I would say
Spoiler
with accent and the fact he knew the first name that he had it right. I do understand how Holtz could be heard as well. Donkey? Really? Wow. I thought the guy was out of his mind.

I looked up "pule" and it is really expensive because only 100 animals can make it. Good game!

I disagree with the beast. While it hurt, ...
Spoiler
getting flagged for the wrong respondent didn't kill their game. After all, he still had 5 seconds on the clock. He easily could've gotten another. What really hurt was missing the Nobel Prize/ Economics one. How can you know Donkey and not know that? sheesh.
