Chuck Forrest plays today, huh?
Looks like we won't even notice Arthur isn't there.

Guessing you won't be advocating betting for the tie, Vermonter? Are there circumstances in this tournament, like, let's say, a lock-tie, where it's conceivable that someone might feel they have a better shot in a buzzer war on a random clue than in getting a Final right in their most glaring weak point category (i.e. Sports for Arthur Chu), and betting for the tie might actually make sense?

The only situation where you have to bet for the tie is when you're tied heading into Final - still an all-or-nothing situation. In other circumstances it might make sense to wager for the tie as a fallback if you're wrong (say, 2/3 exactly where 3rd is out of the running).lieph82 wrote:Guessing you won't be advocating betting for the tie, Vermonter? Could be a tough decision if it actually happens for our players...

I think you'd also bet for a tie in a leader-has-exactly-double situation.Vermonter wrote:The only situation where you have to bet for the tie is when you're tied heading into Final - still an all-or-nothing situation. Chuck Forrest hasn't had his "A" game in the last few tournaments he's played, so I agree that he's going down tonight.seaborgium wrote:India, Leszek, Tom, Frank, Jerome

I really wish folks wouldn't spoil the show's careful plans by discussing matchups before they happen.

Re: BotD 1980s predictions thread
My pick for yesterday's game was Jim Scott (and he almost actually won, in the end), but here are my remaining four:
Tuesday: Leszek Pawlowicz
Wednesday: Leslie Shannon
Thursday: Frank Spangenberg
Friday: Jerome Vered
The following Gold, Silver and Bronze ratings are for what I'm expecting from them now, not necessarily a reflection of their past greatness.
Gold: Jerome Vered, Frank Spangenberg, Leszek Pawlowicz, Tom Cubbage, Jim Scott
Silver: Andy Westney, Chuck Forrest, Leslie Frates, India Cooper, Leslie Shannon
Bronze: Bob Verini, Phoebe Juel, Richard Cordray, Tom Nosek, Mark Lowenthal
At the height of their powers, my rankings would be:
Gold: Bob Verini, Frank Spangenberg, Jerome Vered, Chuck Forrest, Leszek Pawlowicz,
Silver: Tom Nosek, Tom Cubbage, Leslie Frates, Jim Scott, India Cooper
Bronze: Mark Lowenthal, Richard Cordray, Leslie Shannon, Phoebe Juel, Andy Westney

Wednesday: Leslie Shannon
Thursday: Frank Spangenberg
Friday: Jerome Vered
