Re: New old games in the J! Archive
I've confirmed Ed's last name is Cundiff. There's an article from the high school where he worked, about his retirement, and it mentions his having been on J! in 1985. Susan's last name seems to be Mayer. edit: Last name confirmed for Susan; I googled that spelling of her name in conjunction with the Society for Creative Anachronism, which she mentioned in her interview, and I found a public SCA-related post on which she had commented, and clicking through to her profile I found she's a member of the J! Contestants group.

Great and thanks so much. You are very good at the surname detective game.seaborgium wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 8:05 pm I've confirmed Ed's last name is Cundiff. Re: New old games in the J! Archive
I'm largely beholden to Alex restating names during the interviews; Johnny's proclamations notwithstanding, the music playing under them makes them difficult to decode sometimes, and I would have guessed Condit for Ed if the opening was all I had to go on. As for Susan, her interview attached her to something specific that, luckily, she had also attached herself to online (in a public, searchable space that I forgot to mention was Facebook in my post).MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 9:02 pmGreat and thanks so much. Re: New old games in the J! Archive
I just entered a couple of clues so that tomorrow's FJ would have hit 440,000 exactly, and then discovered that someone else is also archiving a game right now. So we'll cross that benchmark tomorrow, if we don't do it tonight. I'm gonna stop archiving right now, so as not to confuse the count.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Mon Jul 25, 2022 3:06 pm No tiebreaker on this Ken Monday: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=7419
We'll need help from Pluto TV to get the archive over 440,000 clues.
(I notice the other person also entered just enough clues to get us to 439,939. Could we both have been thinking the same thing? ETA: Nope, probably just a coincidence.)

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
On FB this morning I got a message about David Rice's games on YT and have entered the J! round of 28 clues. The count as I see it now is 439,961. I'm stopping for now and won't enter the DJ! & FJ! rounds until about 5:15ish PT today.MinnesotaMyron wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 7:07 pmI just entered a couple of clues so that tomorrow's FJ would have hit 440,000 exactly, and then discovered that someone else is also archiving a game right now. David says thanks to Mike.
439,989 if you want the honors, Myron. If not, I'll mark 440,000 tomorrow morning around 11:00ish.

Hopefully Pluto gives us a bonanza of games to keep you busy this summer. Not counting on it, however.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
Not sure where else to post this but just curious:
I tried putting in a correction for the spelling of Bill Sikes' name for DJ13 of this game: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=386 and received an error that there was an identical correction already pending. Is that actually the case, or perhaps my cache was doing something weird?

I went to the game's correction suggestions and accepted the previous one that had been sitting there. Fixed now, thanks.Ironhorse wrote: ↑Fri Jul 29, 2022 10:29 am Not sure where else to post this but just curious:

A guy gets a break in game 1 and look what happens.
I was glad chat mentioned the family connection as I noticed the similarity as soon as Aran was introduced.
I saved the upload when I first learned of it so I will do the remaining Rice game tomorrow. Or perhaps later tonight depending on how busy or quiet my phone may be.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
I usually Google unusual names in old games and came across this article that mentions Aran and another game show.

Thanks for the effort in FJ, it was a fun read. Like the correct name, wagering strategy also occurred too late for him.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Sat Jul 30, 2022 1:06 am Courtesy of a YT upload I added 10/29/90: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=7426

How close did David come to getting into the TOC with his four game total?

The last qualifier for the 1991 ToC was Mark Pestronk, with four wins and $51,698, so it wasn't really close for David and his $33.5k. Plus, another David, David Epstein, has been recorded outside J! Archive as having won $46,101 over four games in season 7, as well as Kyle Freeman with a four-day total of $36,003.
Bill was right, St. Jude is the patron saint of lost causes; St. Anthony is the patron saint of lost things. I don't know if Mark wants to add an editorial note to an already wordy FJ round to say Alex was wrong and Bill was right.

Thank you. Apologies to Marty for not opening the spoiler to see the picture.
Appears to be an unnecessary colon in DJ21. (Haven't watched the video).
Edit...someone has performed a colectomy.

Colon removed in DJ21 and note about St. Jude added. Thanks to both of you.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
Now Mark, on the SF #1 of 1998 College Championship at UC Berkeley, Alex Weathers was supposed to be seen on the left side of the screen and Adia Benton is supposed to be in the center of the screen. I have no idea why. Any evidence?
