Robert Goldbloom, Jinnie Chapel, Paul Klein
DD30: Great wager if Jinnie was in second place. Problem is, she was in third.

John Schneider, Susan Brown, Kimberly Kallsen King
Had Susan gotten Final correct, the ruling on DJ24 may have been reason for a return, but the miss in Final makes it moot.

We welcome British spy Donald MacLean (but not his Chevy, nor his levee) to the J-Canon as a response.AndyTheQuizzer wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 12:37 pm Courtesy games shared with Archivists, 1993-01-13: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8632

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
I put Susan's incorrect Final response, remembering a trivia question that apparently is not one I saw on Jeopardy! but perhaps some other show like Millionaire. It's pretty close. The correct-response structure was finished the year after, in 1884. and was more than twice as tall. This fact leads me to question the sentence on this History Channel webpage, which states, "For several years after its construction, it remained the tallest structure in the Western hemisphere."AndyTheQuizzer wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 12:37 pm Courtesy games shared with Archivists, 1993-01-13: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8632

Paul McBride, Kimberly Kallsen King, Nancy Butts
Tape date: September 1992. This is a Final that becomes a *lot* more obvious between taping and airing and I'm still sure all three players would have been kicking themselves significantly for missing this one.

Lisa Wentz, Steve Shuttleworth, Kimberly Kallsen King
Kimberly's interview subject was about how she collects Opus the Penguin merch.
Alex had *never heard of* Opus or Bloom County.
DJ30: *facepalm* on the bet.

"Col arco" has never appeared in a clue before. I always wondered if there was a term that meant "not pizzicato". Now I know.AndyTheQuizzer wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 5:47 pm Courtesy games shared with Archivists, 1993-01-14: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8633

From the Frazee Tapes, #1647 (1991-10-29): https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8635
Rita, Greg Shepherd, Jim Baughman
The recording went from J15 displayed to in progress chat with Rita. Is there a clear-cut correct response likely or should I mark unknown response in the game description?
1400 to 3000 to 6000. In 1991. Greg bets 3001?
Rita got the shaft by Greg not betting $0.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
These January 1993 games aired during the "Interim" term my first year of college, and I had more time to catch up on Jeopardy then, so I've watched/remember a good chunk of them. I've mentioned this set of J! round categories before (they've done Bible themed a few times since) and I'm pretty sure we'll soon see a round in which the categories are all poker hands, should these games keep turning up. KSFY ran commercials for Jeopardy which showed the categories for either the last night's game, or maybe the upcoming game(?!), which helps them to stick in my mind.AndyTheQuizzer wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 5:20 pm Courtesy games shared with Archivists, 1993-01-12: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8631
Paul McBride, Kimberly Kallsen King, Nancy Butts
This was also the time I developed the first draft of the scorekeeping system that I would eventually use for my systematic Jeopardy training 4 years later.

I suspect the answer given was Paiute, or maybe Ute, but I'd mark it unknown for Archive purposes.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 6:31 pm From the Frazee Tapes, #1647 (1991-10-29): https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8635

Pretty sure the strip was in the L.A. Times for most of its run. They occasionally ran articles about it, too.

From the Frazee tapes, #2774 (1996-09-26): https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8636
Grant Wilton, Liam Bailey, Jason Benton.
This one's missing the first 5 clues. Thanks to Mark's scoresheets from the era, we at least know the category was SHADOWS. I took my best guess on what happened in the category based on Alex's "you are now tied" comment at the end.

That reaction from Oliphant and the Stick Up the Butt Gang still cracks me up.trainman wrote: ↑Mon Oct 16, 2023 1:02 amPretty sure the strip was in the L.A. Times for most of its run. They occasionally ran articles about it, too.
Bloom County was also in The Daily Bruin, the free weekday daily at UCLA--at least from 1985 to 1987 when I was there. I was already a fan, so this was a great gift. I vaguely recall that they ran the Saturday strip either on Friday or the following Monday. So it was only the Sunday strips that needed some tracking down, and those generally weren't tied in to the Mon-Sat story arcs.
I never knew whether The Daily Bruin paid big bucks for the strip or negotiated a fee reduction, perhaps with Breathed's approval. I believe he was living in Santa Barbara by then, just two hours away. [Edit: The 1987 article linked to above mentions a home in Colorado and a 54-foot cruiser in Florida, so I guess Santa Barbara came later.]
It still amazes me to remember that I lived in a time when we could open up the comics page and see a new Calvin and Hobbes AND a new Far Side AND a new Bloom County. Every day. Truly a golden age. There was also a new Peanuts, for that matter. Schulz may have been well past his prime by then, but still. He was there reminding us who had set the tone for the modern comic strip way back in the 50s.
