Hear, hear. Add to these a number of other strips that were likewise past their primes but nonetheless offered occasional grins: Beetle Bailey, Wizard of Id, B.C., Hi & Lois, Blondie, Funky Winkerbean, and Crankshaft are the ones I remember with varying levels of fondness. Some of these strips may still exist, perhaps, but I haven't laid eyes on any of them in over a decade, except via the occasional visit to Comics Curmudgeon.

The amount newspapers pay for a comic strip is based on circulation (although there probably was a discount for the Daily Bruin being a student newspaper).

Those are all still running except "Funky Winkerbean."

In the past few years, some "legacy" strips have been revived and vastly improved via the syndicate finding new artists or writer/artist teams to take over -- "Nancy," "Judge Parker," "Mark Trail," and "Alley Oop" come to mind. Some of the strips you mentioned could probably benefit from that treatment... except that they're still in the hands of family members of the original creators, who are loath to give up the cash cow.

Missing intros & prizes, but we do have a full complement of clues.

Things got really interesting after DJ18.

No way that pronunciation on DJ23 gets accepted today.

The FJ! clue title went TS in the UTOC and seems to have been retired since then. Nice solve by Josh to get his streak going.

It's been previously mentioned that Senterfitt and John Kelly are the 2 ToCers without a regular play game in the Archive. With Josh now in what is the missing count for 4xers (even if not a ToCer)?

DJ6, DJ14 & DJ15 reminded me of future FJ! clues.

I'm 99% certain that those are the only two 4- or 5-time champions without some regular play in the Archive.

(Edit to add: The only gap we have that would fit a 4-time champion that we don't know about would be if there had a 4-time winner with a very low total in early June of 1989. Thus, being that it would require a very specific set of very unlikely circumstances, I think we're probably safe to assume that Walt Senterfitt and John Kelly are currently the only two players with 4 or more wins that do not have a regular-play game in the Archive.)

30+ years later I bet Andy B. cusses every time he hears the correct response for the FJ! Round. At least the wager was on target.

J17 was funny and I replayed it a couple of times.

Andy archivist: Feel free to archive the other Josh games if your time allows through today and tomorrow.

And what I have of Kirk Ditzler Game 3 is done, vs. David Green and Mike something, November 27, 1991.

We welcome to the J-Canon in the category NURSERY RHYMES the poem "Queen Anne's Lace" by Mary Leslie Newton. It was a Daily Double with "lace" as a TOM, you had to name the queen. Very tricky.

Also new to the J-Canon, Jaclyn Smith's perfume "California", which looks to be discontinued, but throw it on a flashcard anyway, what the hell!

The Daily Double in Single Jeopardy was one of the clues in the first segment, which we don't have. I hate when that happens.

Clue of the game will be MAMMALS for $1000, a fact which last showed up in 2006. Due for a comeback, I'd say.
The smallest of these mammals is the Kitti's hog-nosed or bumblebee species
Spoiler
What is a bat?
Have a good night.
Thanks to the Frazee tapes, this game is now complete. "Mike something" is Mike Kennedy, and Alex was kind enough to give full occupations and hometowns during the interviews, so the missing intro doesn't matter too much.

The PEANUTS category was just called that, with no underlining or anything. And the fifth category might have been called ODDS & ENDS, but look carefully and perhaps you WOOD call it something else. ;)

Yeah, J30 would cost players a round with a green on every clue.

I assume you mean the clue at the bottom right side of the board, since the players got J30 correct. I would have known this at the time (thanks to Mad Magazine), but no way I get it in 2023. Of course, we welcome him to the J-Canon either way.

Right, J15 at 6th category, last clue. That one, yeah.

Wow, what an insane game. You have to wonder how many people were calling for a Second Chance Competition back then just to be ignored for three more decades.

I have 2 questions about the episodes archives recently:
1) Did the November 18, 1991 episode still have the flashing blue-red-white flashing letters regardless of the backwall color as seen in the "White Men Can't Jump" movie?
2) Regarding the December 23, 1992 episode as well as all other episodes that week including Day 1 of John Mahoney's run, were these the first regular episodes to use new camera angle shots as seen in the inaugural Celebrity Tournament and the 1992 ToC? In other words, the first chosen non-Daily Double clue of the segment is seen chroma-key instead of being zoomed-up.
