Re: New old games in the J! Archive
In-camera zoom-ups of the first clue continued through #1925. The composited clue zoom on the first clue began with #1926.
In both #1925 and #1926, the post-Final-clue shot was a crane-mounted wide shot from the perspective of the game board looking toward the contestants and craning in over the contestants, looking directly down on them as they wrote. The lights dimmed shortly after the shot switched from the Final clue screen. I don't find this shot to differ in any material respect from the one in #1911, except for the initial position of the camera crane, which started from the opposite side of the set.

Kudos to all of you for helping especially for Erick Dye-Cain and Trevor. It pays to actually have GSN when those weeks were rerun there to see the differences.

Laurie Breen, Michael Grider, Victoria Bassetti
Not sure if I formatted Michael's occupation right.
This game easily has one of the weirdest game dynamic graphs ever. Victoria picked up 20R 0W in the J! Round, 2R 1W in DJ—and 0R over the last 26 clues. No matter, though, still had a runaway.

She wouldn't have had a lock (or the lead) if Michael had converted the PAPER $800 DD--but she still would have won.

Ann Kleese, Brigid Smith, Joe Santora, Jr.
DJ was a *mess*.
It took 7 clues and finding a Daily Double to remove money from an incorrect response on DJ7.
Alex explains the '90s-era rules on rebounding an incorrect first name on DJ20.
Don't show DJ29 to the "Alex would NEVER" crowd.
Nobody bet this FJ properly—especially for a pre-2014 game.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
I think the problem there was Alex should have given a BMS.
When Alex says that contestants normally do not need to give a last name (I double-checked--that's what he said), I think he meant contestants normally do not need to give a first name.AndyTheQuizzer wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2023 10:16 am Alex explains the '90s-era rules on rebounding an incorrect first name on DJ20.
Is the rule as Alex articulated it different today?

- I thought there was a recent case where a contestant has successfully responded with just a last name after an opponent has given an incorrect first name.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
Show #1917, aired 1992-12-29
https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8680
In the TV category at J!14 just before the break, Jon gave the ZIP code of Hawthorne, California, which is quite a bit south of Beverly Hills and very northeast of Laguna Niguel.
At the beginning of Double Jeopardy!, with Ken and Jon tied and Ken at the middle position closer to the host, Jon selected the first clue, with no explanation given.
Show #1918, aired 1992-12-30
https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8681
Alex was delighted to detect a "very slight" English accent in Theresa as she hit the Daily Double in the category LONDON. She called the palace "St. James" (and was ruled correct without remark) even though I usually see it given as "St. James's".
J!15: My first thought was, "I guess Jeopardy! follows the Air Bud rule." Then I remembered the match that made this clue obsolete.
J!20: I've been complaining about the word "and" being used instead of the ampersand with irregular frequency in primetime Celebrity Jeopardy! clues, but here's an example where it showed up in a regular-play clue.
At the conclusion of the interview segment, Alex turned upstage to XYZ, after champ Jack told a tale of noticing his fly was down and making theatric of zipping it up during a turn on stage as Felix Unger in The Odd Couple.
DD at DJ!7: "He was the last of 3 presidents to serve in 1881". Jack knew it without batting an eye.
Jack went on a tear in DJ!; Theresa very nearly broke Jack's lock at the close of the round, but Jack picked up a very much needed $1,000 clue. Well, maybe not that much needed, given the TS Final results. The way Fred and Theresa's Final wagers worked out, Fred eked out the 2nd place prize bedroom set, $101 to her $100.
This completes Jack Mahoney's original 5. He later made the semis of the '93 ToC.

Yeah, that was 3 newbies after a 5xer type game.
Archivists: Please take a look at & a listen to Emily in the FJ! round as I am not sure how close or far away I am from having it right.

I see and hear a G, not a D. Will submit a correction suggestion.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2023 6:07 pm Archivists: Please take a look at & a listen to Emily in the FJ! round as I am not sure how close or far away I am from having it right.
I can't find anything on Google to corroborate Emily's understanding (or her spelling), and neither can ChatGPT, for that matter, but that's not neither here nor there.

The OED has "galley" as a type of fish, but the word is obsolete and not of Native American nor Indian-Asian origin. Skelley reminds me of "scaly", which could describe a fish, especially a white or glistening one. But nothing conclusive.

I like the idea of "Aakron", though.
