Michael and staff are looking at and tracking lots of data. Michael sees Masters as a pyramid with every player since (an undetermined season or years) getting a chance to move up with a chance for every elite player to have a chance to play again. [Something like that]
So a Tournament of Champions, minus the Tournament.

In all seriousness, I loved the whole Postseason idea as it played out and I'll be curious to see how TPTB fill those first 4-5 weeks each season. Maybe back up the ToC to start late October, and run all potential tournaments at the start the season; Teacher/Teen/whatever in the first 2-3 weeks, lead that into Second Chance, lead that into a 3-4 week ToC and then fill the next field with regular play straight through mid-November to July each season before the next season's tournament slate. Could work.
Davies didn't make it sound like he was going to go out of his way to have many tournaments in syndication (outside of "postseason"). For instance, he said he though Sam would have performed well playing normal J! instead of having a Professors tournament. His overarching goal is to turn J! into a sport, with rankings, statistics, postseason play, award shows, hall of fame, etc.

1/16/23: "What is Jeopardy! Masters?" (36:56)

Michael, Sarah and Buzzy (back from Brazil and broke his glasses there)

J! Masters will happen in 2023 with 10 one-hour episodes in prime time with two 30-minute games in each for 20 total. All six players will appear in every ep. and all combinations of facing each other will occur with Ken hosting.

It's about winning games, but will have points involved and possible tiebreakers. The Top 3 will return for J! Masters next year. 4-6 will be in a qualifier the following year that will include the reigning ToC champ.

There will be a JIT (Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament) and possible names are Sam Kavanaugh, Larissa, Colby, and Julia. The winner plus perhaps a 2nd person will go to Masters.

There will be Jeoparankings to track stats and perhaps not all events will be on Alex Trebek Stage.

Michael Davies would like the winner of Celeb J! in the next ToC while Buzzy thinks that person might not fare as well.

Michael is curious how someone who appeared at age 22 might do 10 years later and he along with Sarah said there have been and will be discussions about J!'s eligibility rules such as a Teen/College type player not eligible for regular J!

Buzzy brought up friends from The Chase, Victoria & Brandon about their appearing on J! and done and how they might do now.

Michael hinted at global expansion of J! in 2024.

15:40 regular games of Jan. 9 week:
Spoiler
Connor was alternate the week before he got on and saw Patrick play.
Max's dad was on J! in 1990s and wrote Who is Max.

Buzzy saw Yogesh's name on player list and recognized the name for trivia exploits though does not know him.

Andrew has been on other game shows. Will have to post and ask him about those other appearances as I don't have them on his page. Andrew was mentioned for possible SCC.

Tough for J! to measure buzzer speed and for box score and person can have more than 30 attempts if trying twice to get in on clue with incorrect response for example.

Tie after J! round on Wed. game went to person with last correct response to pick first for the DJ! round.

Yogesh has a dry sense of humor.

Michael has seen Bayeux Tapestry in person as has Sarah (and Jimmy) during Clue Crew time. They were given time to do clues and just told to let them know when they were done filming. Michael thinks of that piece of art as a sports highlight even though English lost.

Sarah is aware that it almost seems like SCC is at its limit already with so many good players who did not win.

The host were very complimentary about Michael from the Friday game from playing to pocket square. A reference was made to Michael compared to Rocky IV when Rocky hits Drago and he is not a machine and just a man.
26:30 Celeb J! talk:
Spoiler
Michael knew Patton going back to the 1990s. Comedians do well because they keep up with current culture and often have improv background to think on their feet to help with connecting parts of clues.

Prop comics (Carrot Top mentioned) are on the bottom of comedians who may not be as smart when it comes to J!

Patton's daughter was in taping audience got to come on stage for pictures afterwards. She got the FJ! clue correct about the naval guy & milk.
30:30 Questions - TroutMD asks about tourney players not eligible for regular J! and Sarah & Michael once again mentioned they are looking into possible changes. They want the best players on the show.

Emma asks about the opening credits sequence. Sarah works on the clips during the off season and it takes many hours. There are 19 boxes and they use J! masters and greats.

Next week: The Jan. 16 week of games and Celeb J! with:
Spoiler
B.J. Novak, Brendan Hunt and Cari Champion
J! & WoF renewed on ABC stations for 5 more years

There you have it. Rebounds count as buzzer attempts. But Amy still buzzed in on all 57 clues in that one game as she enabled all of those rebounds.

It would get old....but as much as I disliked the best of 7 format for the TOC finals....the ratings were good so it's here to stay.

1/23/23 "What are Trivia Titans on Jeopardy!?" (31:39)

Michael Davies, Sarah and Buzzy

As usual there is fluff opening talk and today it was Buzzy & Sarah needing haircuts while Michael buzzes his own and is proud bald with no support for comb overs, toupees, etc.

Candace Parker played J! on the TNT NBA show against Shaq and Jamal Crawford. Clip can bee seen here:
Spoiler
Jamal could be future Celeb J! player. Shaq probably not based on his performance and how well Kareem did is fondly recalled.

Michael has run into Iliza S. at events and she wants to play again which the powers are open to next season.

Brendan was in regular pool before Ted Lasso role and it reminded the hosts of Matthew Wiener doing regular J! before celeb version.

7:25 1/16 week of games:
Spoiler
Katie betting 8K on DD set her up for wager that beat Yogesh and the money won will get her out of college debt.

Appreciation for Jimmy's hair of course garnered some comments.

JBoard got some comments about the math for FJ! round success and the breakdown for various solving patterns from R-R-R to W-W-W and in between.

Michael liked Yogesh as a character and is well aware of his quizzing prowess. The hosts were up on social media comments about Yogesh and Yogesh defending himself.

Michael acknowledged the show does not prep contestants for the social media aspect of appearing on the show.

Yogesh was not ruled out for the ToC and it is up in the air if his 3 wins and money won could qualify.

In defense of the players not getting The Fabelmans clue it was pointed out the game was taped Nov. 6 and the movie had only been out for five days at that time.

It reminded Buzzy when he played and iPhone 10-years anniversary being a stumper while it was 9.5+ years at the time of the taping before all the hoopla of ten years when the game aired.

As S39 goes along the games get further from tape time to air time.

The host liked the liquor line from Vince about needing some and enjoyed Ken's ad lib to comment on Vince's comeback without some liquor.

Erin's earrings got a shout out of appreciation.

The hosts know all about Troy being a top quizzer and were happy Troy got to give a loving tribute to his recently deceased mom about watching J! with her.

Troy's cheering section included: Brandon Blackwell, Victoria Groce and Susannah Brooks.
19:20 Celebrity J!:
Spoiler
Only mention of The Chase was that Buzzy was on, but nothing further about it or especially that Final Chase round. :(

Brendan found all 6 DDs and converted 5/6 of them to earn accolades from the hosts.

B.J. Novak tried over and over again to get in, but never got the hang of the buzzer timing and he is another one who might return next season.
22:50 Questions [From ?] If all 3 players are in the negative situation after the DJ! round what happens?

There will be no FJ! round and the host will have to entertain and kill time. If it is a tournament situation, and Michael has talked to Rocky Schmidt about it, then the show goes to next best second place finisher for someone to move on.

Joe asks about J! supported methods or prep such as a J! book or study guide? Such things come more from former champs and Buzzy got to plug his audio book Get Ready as well as Fritz Holznagel's Secrets of the Buzzer.

Troy Meyer has the great advice of watch a lot of J!

Buzzy mentioned online trivia leagues as well as Alex Jacob's "School of Trivia" which helped the recent SCC and ToC players.

Michael Davies is thinking about a training module, but that is further down the line as well as thinking about buzzer training and knowledge guides as well as tips from champions.

Michael Davies asks for how to deal with audiences for the J! Masters. It will tape in March & April and the plans are for all 10 nights to air in May.

The ToC had friends/family only and was not a full audience while the Celeb J! audience is full and adds something to the episodes.

Michael wants a full audience but is also aware of spoilers getting out for the Masters. He asks for suggestions for what to do about it.

Next week: The Jan. 23 week of games and the last semis for the Celeb. J!

Golf had this comment on 1/12 which is the only thing recent that sounds about right.

Congrats to Golf for having his wagering comments noticed and discussed by the producers if that's the case.

1/30/23 "What is a
Spoiler
6-Day Jeopardy! Champion?"
(32:09)

Sarah & Buzzy host.

Lots of suggestions came in for Jeopardy! Masters audience and how to prevent spoilers. Favorite was Neuralyzer from MiB to wipe memories.

Another idea was only people in the contestant pool and threatened with banned as contestant for revealing spoilers.

When Michael Davies did WWTBAM he told audience he would hunt them down and kill them.

2:23 - Regular play winner and Celeb J! winner from 1/26 both named.

2:50 - 1/23 week of games:
Spoiler
Troy's wife Genevieve was on Season 26. Sarah met Genevieve at lunch and she is a fan of Inside Jeopardy!

Jessica Stephens notes that a Genevieve is wife of Amy Schneider and a Genevieve is wife of Troy for possible ToC predictor?

Duncan's chat about former teacher comparing about Ken not slacking off led to this image:
Spoiler
The hosts liked Troy's "Bring it" to invoke Sam Buttrey and they were very much aware of Troy being a known entity in the trivia world including mentioning MeyerT.

Wed. was Troy's first non runaway and he only got 7R in the DJ! round after 5 previous 17R rounds. David was mentioned for possible while John did not get the same mention. [Which could just be simple over sight.] Gus picked out dad John's distinctive yellow glasses.

It was mentioned Troy sat on the Thursday and Friday game with no specific reason given other than grueling taping schedule. Troy clearly said "basalmic" and not "balsamic" and they check such things, of course. Sometimes players can't believe they made such mistake, but the audio evidence is there. They were not saying Troy disputed his case at all, just a general reference.

Troy's $44,401 was 4th of of the season with Cris P. owning top 3. Troy's 5-day total of $170,401 is best since James Holzhauer.

Friday game called "The Fall of Troy" and Sarah and Buzzy wish Michael was there to talk about TS FJ! clue. The hosts of course acknowledged Jake's big DD3 wager. The hosts seemed to want to question Troy going all-in while thinking it was more about his previous 5/6 on FJ! clues than other reasons.

14:55 talk to Troy - His train-loving son will get a train set. Troy named Cris as someone from the upcoming ToC. Troy's VIP cheering section got a mentioned and this time the hosts remembered on include that Genevieve was there as well.

Troy has been on top winning trivia team 7 times with Andrew Ullsberger joining Victoria Groce and Susannah Brooks. It was noted that J! naturally pays more than quizzing and the highlight of J! for Troy is just living the dream since he's been watching since he was a kid on grandpa's lap.
18:15 - Celebrity J!
Spoiler
Amy Schneider loves the Warriors and great that she got to do category that Brendan ran.
Both Michael Cera and Simu can't say anything about upcoming Barbie movie.

Sarah looked at Brendan's audition recording from June 2020 and he mentioned he had an upcoming show on Apple TV+ called Ted Lasso. Contestant coordinator said, "That's great and I hope that goes really well for you." :)

Sarah hopes Brendan comes back to play again.

Sarah knows who wins Celeb J! so does not want to talk about the guy even with Buzzy's prodding.

22:25 - Sarah talks to Patton. For FJ! clue he at first though Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus and only got the correct response in right before time was up. Patton's goal going in was just to make the semis.

Patton jokes to bet on Ike (chat taped before Finals) and jokes about trying to get Ike to switch charities.

Patton gets cool points just for being next to Brendan who his daughter was probably rooting for since he plays Coach Beard. Patton expects dry mouth and tension in the finals.
25:15 Questions - Miranda wants to know why there is a break in the J! Round though not the DJ! Round. Ads are a part of the show though do not want to interrupt game play in the DJ! Round.

Andrew asks about the camera angle pan after the first break showing people at desks with monitors and separated by dividers.

Those are the judges' table and they wear masks with COVID protocols and now wear headphones. Sarah is in the middle with Rocky Schmidt on her right and Billy Wisse on her left.

Sarah's monitors shows the game board one one and video clues on the other, Rocky's monitor will show the FJ! responses being written and Sarah will lean over to see them so that she can cue host about results and what will happen.

The judges used to huddle together to discuss rulings, now it's more isolated with other workers up in the booth.

Next Week: Jan. 30 week of games and Celeb J! Finals.

2/6/23 - "What is the Celebrity Jeopardy! Champion?" (27:02)

Sarah and Buzzy host and waste little time to get to recap of last week's regular play games.

1:10 January 30 games:
Spoiler
Buzzy did not solve passion and got stuck on word, "agony".

Jake ran Jason Concepcion category and they got to acknowledge each other online.

Contestant Soren got mention for his long hair and half jokingly contributed it to people growing hair out during pandemic and finding they like it.

Patti won with FJ! clue Jake missed (he never got one right) and said Patti is huge Colin Firth fan. Buzzy says Pemberley is a Pavlov for Pride and Prejudice.

Jake is 23 years old and was inspired by Matt Jackson. The hosts seemed more than aware of strong reactions online to Jake from negative to positive to in between. Sarah said Jake was very nice in studio and wishes people posting on message boards could be better towards contestants.

Buzzy needed a job after college and J! was his plan B. He thinks going on so young would not have worked out as well for him.

Rosie O'Donnell saw Patti win and posted a Tik-Tok video of some kind of congratulations.

Matthew's hair also got notice from the hosts and he had 18R in the DJ! round for his first game. Matthew was born in New York and soon after transported to Wales for 10 years and then went to Oxford along with living in London.
11:50 Celebrity J!
Spoiler
Buzzy had Ike as his pick to win and Sarah now admitted she did as well. They liked the banter with the finalists about degrees of dressing up for the finals.

The James Holzhauer category had an Easter egg:
Spoiler
Image
with daughter's (Natasha) birthday 11/9/14 on the display as $1,109.14 and the hosts wonder if James will continue that betting tribute in Masters.

Sarah said, "almost nearly count on it" for more Celeb J!.

14:45 talk to Ike
Ike's charity Hollygrove will get $1M and the charity, of course, would have been happy with any amount.

Ike joked that Ike will wear the question mark trophy with a chain around his neck. Ike was in contact with ToCer Andy Wood and received advice to go big on DDs and bet on yourself.

Winning Celeb J! may be at the top of his career list or at least upper echelon.

$2,190,000 in total for the charities.

Ike attended the finals taping alone by choice and listened to ABBA in his trailer. Instead of calling family to let them know he won he will walk in with trophy and hope some dinner was saved for him.

Sarah hopes to have Ike back on the J! set and Ike says, "Book it".

Buzzy likes Ike and would like to hang out with him.
19:45 Questions - [Stephen?] asks Buzzy when he taped The Chase about finding out John Lance's sister was MacKenzie Jones who Buzzy hosted in her ToC. Buzzy did not know ahead of time.

Chasers get list of contestants with little information about them. Chasers have to cross out ones they know. While Buzzy as a chaser wants to do well, he is also rooting for the contestants.

Some of the contestants Buzzy hosted in the ToC came back in the audience for the Ken-hosed ToC and it's like seeing his children.

Doug wants to know that if the Celeb J! winner gets invited to the ToC would that person be playing for charity or themselves. Next week, there will be more talk with the Celeb J! winner for some answers about that.

Sarah would only say at this point that she does not know if the Celeb winner being invited to the ToC is an option.

Buzzy met the Celeb J! winner:
Spoiler
Ike on the set of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. It was mentioned that Ike used to do pub trivia.
Next Week: Feb. 6 week of games and hearing about Celeb J! winner's time as champ including if he hangs trophy from rear view mirror. There will be more answers about Michael Davies' question for how to handle Masters audience.

Nothing was mentioned about the High School Reunion.

Post by MarkBarrett »

Sarah and Michael Davies host - no Buzzy

Michael enjoyed seeing video of Johnny Gilbert hosting Camouflage in early 1960s.

March 30 is JeoparDAY and there could possible be a live Inside Jeopardy! show.

Season 40 coming up and J! staff are already thinking about it though no special plans revealed.

After the High School Reunion there will be more Ken hosting followed by more Mayim hosting.

4:15 talk about Masters audience and possible plans of:
J! alumni & upcoming players
First five hours of shows could be more liberal with audience while last five shows could be tighter
J! could do misinformation and fake results to make it look like each person won
Require an essay to get in
Fill the audience with players & their family/friends who could not have the audience experience during the pandemic

Michael still dreams of doing live J! and has experience with BAM airing the day after taping in his younger days

Michael is looking for responses about possibly putting the category on the screen when clues are shown as he had read the discussion on Reddit. Sarah would not want it for video clues to take away from images/video shown.
The concept could be tested during a tournament. Michael welcomes feedback about the idea and he calls these kinds of things, "EP Conundrum".

13:00 2/6 week of games:
Spoiler
MONTHS THAT START WITH FEB was a nod to SNL, of course.

The 2/7 game had a pefect 30/30 J! round.

The hosts are aware of how Ken's TPIR remarks were received about Greg having been on that show and loved Ken having fun with it. Michael loves TPIR and knows Drew.

Just like J.Lo, JFK and FDR, Em Rata is fine for Emily Ratajkowski .

Matthew is looking for the ToC, but the hosts did not go as far as to guarantee it.

Michael enjoys hearing judges decide on things like the ambient/ambiance ruling and always want to know what is the precedent. J! staffers can recall previous situation due to past game memories.

The timing is set with less than a minute to go so they could not get that unplayed DJ30 clue in that made the game a runaway.

Lots of viewers were thrown by the lower case style clue for e.e. cummings. Michael gets thrown by different font for Swedish version of J!

20:25 talk to Matthew who did well with Am. history and lit and Matthew unsure about Yankee Stadium got a laugh. Matthew would have figured out Dorian Gray with 10 more seconds. He just got thrown by wrong work occurring to him first.

Sarah did Super Bowl category at SoFI stadium and the audio engineers did well to eliminate noise at the stadium including mariachi band.

Mira had two comeback wins and her working for Noble Blood podcast helped her get the 2/10 clue.
25:00 talk Celeb J! winner:
Spoiler
Ike Barinholtz the day after the finals aired. Ike is wearing J! cap, but has jewelers in bidding war to make the trophy wearable. The ep. was the #1 show on TV that night. Ike only told a few people he won.

He had a neighborhood viewing party only after a neighbor asked if he was having one. The neighbor figured Ike must have won otherwise why agree to do it? Ike's kids stayed up late as normally bedtime is after J! at 7.

Ike got many texts including a Chicago deli owner texting Ike's dad. Ike even heard from kids he went to kindergarten with. Ike watched J! in Chicago and his parents hosted Trivial Pursuit parties. Ike remembers the Cheers ep. with Alex & J!

Ike did scholastic bowl in soph./jr. years of high school and in 1994 his team won Illinois state championship and went to nationals at Rice U. where it sounded like they finished 9th or 10th.

In Europe Ike did pub quizzes and around 2000 Ike wanted to take the regular J! test but missed it getting caught in traffic. Late Ike took the test but never got the call to go on. Michael wants Ike's test results found.

For Celeb J! Ike taped his QF and Semis match on same day. Before returning for finals he maintained his routine of watching regular J! and also watched celeb J!.Ike tried to get used to Mayim's timing for reading clues.

Going into Celeb J! Ike was worried about Patton who he already knew as nice & funny, Brendan who he knew from time in Amsterdam, Andy Richter from winning previously and friend B.J. Novak.

OneEclecticMom Lilly got a mention for how finalists did their own recap on their outfits. The guys were able to relax in making fun of each other.

ToCer Andy Wood go mentioned again for telling Ike to be aggressive on DDs and Ike's brother had the same advice.

Ike was happy with true DDs in finals. Ike was confident, though not super confident like he would have been with '80s ACTION COMEDIES, with ARTISTS. He did not know the correct response at first and figured it out by thinking about Florence artists and Ninja Turtles.

The hosts were impressed by Ike's 41R (Patton had 27 and Will had 20).

Ike's charity Hollygrove had their own view party and it was an emotional phone call when Ike talked to leader of the charity about the large sum they will receive.

40:50 Ike was invited to participate in the next TOC and he humbly accepted. Ike calls Cris (Pannullo) amazing and hopes the show will go easy on the draw he gets.

Ike will always make room for J! and dessert.

Second season of Celeb J! not confirmed yet, but when it is Ike will be back as well as others from the first season. Ike wants to help get celeb players to make it a strong field. Ike knows Jimmy Kimmel will razz him in some way.
45:00 questions - Andy wants to know how Ken sees clues. After Alex for the first time Ken hosted Ken did it the same way with a sheet print out. Alex used to cross out clues with quiet crayola.

When other guest hosts came in it was too much for them to host the sheet way and instead they read clues off the screen. Ken now uses that method as well.

Liam asks about Mayim's banter after the game. For Celeb J! there is time to include it with the hour format. For regular J! there is not time though J! will put videos on YouTube marked as Overheard when there is good discussion.

Next Week: The 2/13 week of games.

I don't think it should be changed. On something like 5% of the clues a viewer might wish they could see the category and that stands out and causes people to post that they want this change. The other 95% of the time it's already setup in the best way but people don't notice it and it's taken for granted. It's great the way it is now without any unnecessary clutter.

The concept could be tested during a tournament. Michael welcomes feedback about the idea and he calls these kinds of things, "EP Conundrum".
I beg to differ.

I would love to see the category in the corner. I've lost count of how many times I've had to rewind the DVR because I needed to know the category to help solve the clue.

as for Ike in the TOC, I don't like it but I would be fine with him in the second chance tournament. Note from Robert's post, Ike only won because of buzzer speed; he actually buzzed in less than his opponents.

Agreed - I think this would be helpful for categories like “Inside Information,” where every answer is found inside the word information. Having that on screen would be useful for me at least.

2/20/23 "What is the Current ToC Field?" (24:59)

Sarah and Buzzy talk about J! valentines on Twitter:
Spoiler
Note: There are more than just the host ones.

It's Presidents Day and Sarah's children Taylor & Reagan are named after presidents. Sarah's favorite president is Lincoln and Buzzy declined to name his.

Luigi's response to the Celeb J! winner invited to the ToC is, "Heck Yeah" and he welcomes it.

The current ToC field is 5 players (21-13-6-5-Celeb) and the hosts were clear that the Celeb J! winner will not be taking a spot over anyone who deserves one.

Buzzy would like to coach the Celeb J! winner and that person does have the potential to win.

8:45 2/13 week of games:
Spoiler
It was obvious that Sarah and Buzzy like Mira (and her chat stories) and too bad she did not have a longer run.

Ken doing the Mork Nanu Nanu leading into a break was appreciated.

The Tom Joad clue about 6 cylinders did have a stop down to research the piston miss and the research showed it was named after the cylinder so the judges stand by their ruling.

Halley's or Haley's as Kendra spelled it is fine because the comet's name is often said that way. Kendra bet for the possible tie with a $0 wager because she thought a tiebreaker might be fun.

The hosts were as nice as they could be in noting Blaine's wager of 8700 was not playing to win.

The hosts commented that Reddit loves Stephen and the hosts saw that Stephen responded there. Buzzy called Stephen one to watch out for.

Brad from the 2/16 game commented he prepared for J! using Buzzy's book and Buzzy DMed him to thank him.

Laura from 2/17 is the mother of Kristin Donegan from the JNCC and mother of Ciara who won a game in regular play.

In talking about Stephen not returning until 3/10, Buzzy said he had a taping break during his run and he went to Vegas.
18:25 questions and Oddmanufacturer963 on Reddit asks about 2-day total finals and what if someone is in the negative after the first day. The person does not start in the red with that deficit carried over and is instead zeroed out.

Sarah said Brad from the GOAT is the only one. Nope. Hans from 2010 College B was minus 6000 after day one for one other case I can recall.

Jackies asks how long a contestant can decide on DD wager. There is no set time, but the hosts will push for a wager if someone is taking too long. Once the clue has been revealed it's 8 seconds to respond.

Buzzy recalled that Alan Lin would take a long time to make DD wager as he wanted to calculate how much value was left on the board.

Buzzy jokes about having "no math" in his contract as a Chaser and has heard from some J! contestants that math is the scariest part of the show.

MarkBarrett comment: For me, the chat portion was part that had me least confident while nerves and math I did not sweat at all.
